  1. You just made my day!!!!!!!!!!!! Been hoping for this positive report. Pain scares we humans so you can guess what it does to our dogs. But your love has helped Stella and will continue to help. I much prefer worrying Mums to ones that neglect.
  2. Elderly? In fabulous condition and obviously cherished & loved. Aw, that's a beautiful photo.
  3. I concur. If it's a grave threat to the welfare of my dog, then I accept some actions may be needed. That said I have been lucky with Vets who could able to handle upset dogs.
  4. Are you going to wash your hands ever? Are there photos for the deprived followers? :)
  5. Now I feel silly. I have been back out to the area where he *coughed* did the gardening. There's nothing there. No creepies of any sort. I concede we have ants in the front yard. But the back yard seems without them. And neither of us screamed in fright. May have been a combination of sausage & whatever was in the soil. Hives are still there.
  6. Thanks! Luckily I have the Calendula tea. I made the daily batch this morning. He's been wiped down and appears OK. I did not realize the bull ants were so bad in the back yard. Certainly in the front area we have dozens.
  7. Talk about using up one of the nine lives when you own a dog. Herbert managed to give me a bad scare. He woke up from a siesta. Went outside as usual. Prior to going outside he had a small piece of sausage. Not 4 minutes later, I heard a strangish whimper. Went ouside to check. His face, throat and chest were covered with hives. There are also dozens more over the rest of his body. I also noticed some 'fresh' gardening with his mark. No obvious marks or bites. Garden area has bull ants galore crawling everywhere. Gave him antihistamine just under the suggested dosage. Did that in case I need to give more withing 6 hours. No sign of distress or respiratory problems. Just a lot of hives. Any thoughts? Was it bull ants or the sausage or a combo? Yes, he is being monitored and I will go to the Vet if the situation changes. I've already called the Surgery.
  8. Hmmm yep okay, not good, and I agree certainly not good at all for a first visit to the vet. I would have been very unhappy with that display by my vet and he/she would have been told straight and the dog removed without them finishing the consult. Sounds like an Alpha roll not a trun puppy over to see whats a happening underneath. All my babies happily would roll over and lie on their backs as they had done it since being a few weeks old. I got them use to being held and not wiggling etc as they were going to families with kids and I didn't want them to be picked up and turned upside down and then struggle and get dropped. In the end they went like rag doll cats. BUt there is a time and a place and a learning process. Doing that is not right. What you describe is the ideal way of handling a puppy for when Puppy has a new family. There's no mention or sense of fear in anything you have written. Puppy learns to roll over and to have good experiences. All the Vizslas enjoyed 'rolls' and mad leg cycling as their tummies were tickled. Herbert demands tummy tickles several times daily. I see it as bonding time, never fear.
  9. That description sounds like an alpha roll to me.
  10. That buzz of the razor would spook Gabor as well. But the lure of food rewards made him a brave dog. He was donor to a friend's bitch. The bitch whelped 13 puppies and was fading fast. His donation saved her life and thus the puppies. I try to let non-doggy friends about these lesser known matters. Friends in the bush have also helped their local Vet when a dog got bitten by a snake.
  11. what about having this filled with sand with hidden treasures? I had to start Gabor off with that approach. By end of that first Summer, Gabor took to a water filled clam shell. :)
  12. Thank you for the link. I will add it to my files. I was lucky enough to have a fine Vizsla boy who was used to donate blood. He gave about 4 times. I think he had a crush on one of the Vet nurses. With the new puppy, it's an option I am going to consider as well. :)
  13. I would have shared the driving. As you say, lucky Ronin has a fine Vet now. :D
  14. Oh beautiful photos! Spice comes from fine lines. Just a little OT, I sent a Christmas card to Lillian Gish last week. Known her for many years, and her Airedales & those dear wee affenpinschers.
  15. I had to read that twice and swear. The trainer at Puppy School was teaching that and demanded Horrible Herbert know about the techinque. He never will. So glad you could move on to a caring and understanding Vet who respects you and Ronin.
  16. Wont lie. I put one of the new ones on the couch for myself to enjoy for a day before giving it to the dogs It was very comfy! Please! Stop! Please! I do not want to be enabled. I actually thought they might be human comfortable too.
  17. Hmmm, hmmm. If i thought Horrible Herbert would not destroy the bed, I could be enabled. Might ear-mark for his maturity. Thank you. :D
  18. Thinking of you both. Hope Stella is feeling a bit better AND you have managed some rest too.
  19. TBF< I did not even need to enlarge the photo. There's a strong resemblence. It's a subject I do believe in too. Similarities, coincidences, you name it. These things happen.
  20. Ronin's Daddy,Yonjuro. feeds RAW to his lad. He buys this type of tripe. He is cluey on its benefits. :)
