  1. Volunteer Photographer wanted for RSPCA Somersby. This would suit someone used to handling animals of different types and sizes, wanting to learn photography or just find another way of helping animals find their homes. I am moving for a new job after new year but happy to help in the meantime. Somersby shelter is an easy trip down the freeway from Hornsby on the Central Coast and has friendly caring staff who are embracing rescue co-operation. I would love a new volunteer who could possibly continue to support this. please share with anyone who may possibly be interested. Happy to answer any questions as I have been doing the somersby pics for about 5 years now.
  2. Oh for god sake. looking at her facebook page she has a new dog. what a shame it is still public I may have to join some of her groups.
  3. I dont use it in general but when my old goldie used to turn into a stinking swamp monster from our local "lake" pantene was the only thing that would shift it.
  4. http://www.news.com.au/national/breaking-news/nsw-woman-fined-15k-over-qld-dogs-attack/story-e6frfku9-1227120217945 A COUNCIL on Queensland's Sunshine Coast says it will continue pursuing irresponsible dog owners after prosecuting a woman over an attack by her german shepherd. NSW woman Janet Todd Walker was fined $15,000 and convicted of grievous bodily harm after her dog Benny mauled the leg of an 82-year-old man at Caloundra in August. She is the first person to be convicted of grievous bodily harm over a dog mauling in Queensland. The Caloundra Magistrates Court heard the animal had previously been declared dangerous in Ms Walker's home town and she had been ordered to use a muzzle on the dog in public. "This 82-year-old man was out for a stroll, minding his own business, when the dog attacked him and mauled his calf," Sunshine Coast regional council's Sheryl Krome said. The dog was surrendered to council and euthanased. Ms Krome encouraged residents to report attacks and said there had been 20 prosecutions so far in 2014. "It's time dog owners took responsibility of managing and controlling their animals so innocent people and pets are protected." Magistrate Stephanie Tonkin said on Tuesday the owner had an obligation to protect the public and had clearly failed, as she knew the dog was dangerous. The fine was a deterrent to the rest of the community and showed the irresponsible behaviour of the owner was unacceptable, Ms Tonkin said.
  5. I might add my own thoughts to the mix. My old border collie boy was a terrible barker during heeling. Someone suggested that I teach him bark on command and then add in a cease barking command. It worked very quickly. good luck though, hope things settle
  6. I saw another article about this today which referred to this situation. The vet involved was quoted as saying that in their opinion the wounds looks more like they were inflicted with a knife than from a dog attack.
  7. somac is from the same family of drugs as losec just with a slightly different action
  8. Adopted. Someone drove all the way from blue mountains to get there at opening.
  9. Just posting in case someone fabulous is looking for a pug to adopt as they tend to be snapped up quickly. Disclaimer, there are no pics available atm and I have not met him. Frankie almost 3yo male pug http://adoptapet.com.au/animal/animalDetails.asp?regionID=7&tpage=2&searchTypeId=4&pagesize=15&task=view&searchType=4&animalid=372118 contact the shelter for details but tbh if you are really looking I would take a chance and turn up at the shelter when at opening time in the morning.
  10. It could have been kennel cough that was picked up in the waiting room at the vets. Any dog in heart failure is prone to deterioration especially when unwell with a virus etc. Heart failure and the buildup of fluid in the lungs can cause coughing which may or may not be associated with a potential case of KC. IMHO you can't just blame the vaccine.
  11. not country but both of our pounds here on the central coast desex before rehoming. Gosford and Wyong - they are both privately managed though.
  12. I would like to nominate Denise at Paws, she does a brilliant job and has lots of small fluffies where the clippers would be put to good use. http://members.optusnet.com.au/paws/FosterCare/FosterCareDenise.htm

  14. have you thought about going to a compounding chemist and see if they can make up the doses you need or offer alternatives?
  15. As the neighbor of someone with a valhund they can certainly be barkers
  16. I am wondering now that the RSPCA is backing away from pound contracts whether the LDH is also following suit due to the poor publicity of euthanasia rates for both organisations.
  17. Oh. They out of stock at that link. Are there other stockists?
  18. they may just have picked up some KC on their last vet visit
  19. I saw this and was about to respond that we have ruled out Kennel Cough   She hasn't thrown up this evening, but even a little sip has her rasping. poor babe. If you are going to see the vet in the morning I would fast her from now. Sounds like she could be aspirating. maybe offer her water in the form of small bits of ice to chew if needed.
