  1. Yes, those things are certainly super important, I do that too I feed mine probably about 1.5m away from each other, and usually keep an eye on them, just because Scrappi is a bit slower. Monty knows not to steal Scrappi’s food, and vice versa but just in case.
  2. Just as long as you feed her something healthy, easy for you, and appetising enough for her she will eat soon. Perhaps you could entice her to eat the kibble or barf by mixing it with a little extra something, but be prepared to keep feeding this all the time! e.g a little dollop of plain yoghurt or a tsp or so of melted coconut oil or something? (My dogs are obsessed with it and it’s great for their skin & fur) and then wean her off it gradually? (Idk if this is good advice, I’ve never had to deal with fussy pups haha!) And yes do the put down for a certain amount of time, then take it off her if she doesnt eat it.
  3. That’s good, but you know your dogs well now, that they won’t worry about each other eating. Sounds a bit like this pup is a little nervous about the big dog eating near her.
  4. I’m not 100% sure, but it’s not high enough quality for humans for whatever reason. Perfectly fine for dogs though, and a lot cheaper. I’m torn because it would be nice to feed human grade organic everything to the dogs, but if the dogs don’t eat the pet grade stuff than who will? It’ll just go to waste otherwise and it’s usually perfectly fine. I live by the idea that if you’re going to eat/kill an animal, be respectful and use up as much of it as you can. Don’t just kill a chook and only use the breast meat... I think pet grade mince often includes bits that humans don’t eat (like green tripe, giblets, trachea, necks, etc.) Otherwise I’m not sure, the lamb we get from the pet food guy looks much better quality than the lamb offcuts we get at Woolworths (which are obviously human grade...) I think pet grade can also include animals with broken bones for example or other things...
  5. Holy shit! Have a look somewhere else! We get ours from a dog food bloke for $50 for - 10kg chicken frames ($1/kg) - 5kg Chicken mince - 5kg beef mince - 5kg lamb meat Or even from woolies it’s cheaper; - chicken drumsticks in a 2kg bag for $5 - Chicken giblets, hearts, necks or livers $4kg - lamb offcuts about $5kg - lamb hearts about $6kg I try to keep the majority of our dog food meat under $8kg...
  6. Sorry Mowgli hahaha. That was quite the exaggeration. I mean it’s just a bit of a pain in the ass to cut up such a small amount each week, bit easier to do 500g (which is a small tub from woolies) and cut into teaspoon size chunks & freeze. You can freeze them in a week sized tub, defrosting once a week and add to meal daily, or use an ice tube tray with a lid and make Offal IceCubes which is convenient. They don’t sell Offal type stuff at the deli etc so you can’t really say “can I please have 65g of kidney” because that’s probably like 1/2 - 1 lamb kidney... If you’re squeamish, maybe see if someone else can do it for you? Perhaps a close by raw feeder can do meal prep for you with theirs? I buy food safe gloves, so that really does make it easy and clean. Just slice it up, pop it in tubs and freeze. Or perhaps you could blitz it in a blender and freeze in ice cubes, that way it’s maybe less (or more) gross for you since there’s less touching?? But you’d probably have to feed that frozen. Worth a shot, and if it’s too icky for you, you can just remember that for next time.
  7. I second that! We get them sometimes, they are a bit more expensive so not an everyday thing, but they are super handy. Plus it’s a good way to feed “weird” meats since they have Roo, Rabbit, Fish etc. When we went away we left dogs with family, who we thought it was a bit hard/messy to feed raw to my specific rules so I just bought 2 cases of Big Dog to feed instead. Dogs loved it. Could’ve just fed all kibble for the holiday but they like a bit of variation.
  8. Yes, balancing over a few weeks is ok too. Offal will have to be prepped. Smallest pack I can find is 500g which lasts us ages, would probably last you ages too. Im not an organised person, but doing a biggish lot of meal prep is better imo. Because getting elbow deep in meat and Offal every weekend is no fun, better to spend a few hours every few weeks.
  9. We have a 12kg and 21kg Dog. We buy bulk now, but used to buy from woolies. We’d get - a bag of Chicken drumsticks - a 500g pack of chicken livers - and/or a pack of lamb kidney And then the amount of muscle meet to balance that out... - A tray of lamb offcuts - 500g pack of chook giblets - 500g pack of chook hearts - lamb heart or any other cheap meat
  10. Yes, I always separate my dogs when we do this. Especially since the OP has a new young dog, need to get to know them very well to be comfy with that.
  11. These bowls have been a life saver for us https://www.dogtrainingproducts.com.au/dog-bowls/318-kyjen-slow-feeder.html HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Slows them right down and makes them think a bit more about what they’re doing. The three pronged usual slow bowls did nothing for us, I’d just get a kyjen slo feeder. Other feeders you could rotate could be kongs, treat dispensers & food puzzles. Also snuffle mats. Or, you can just chuck the kibble out on the lawn and she can forage for it. Just make sure other dog is well away so she doesn’t feel threatened. (She might think he’ll steal it)
  12. Oh ok, I know some yr 11 kids who are finished. Maybe it’s a private school.
  13. And it’s school holidays in Vic too
  14. Glad your gorgeous pup’s surgery went well.
  15. I would guess the most functional/real part? I.e. if the penis works and that’s how pup wees then that, but if the vulva works and she pees like that then keep that? I’m pretty sure they can just have “pseudo” bits, that are just tissue but don’t have a function. I’ve seen a surgery of a male dog who must’ve got glass stuck up in his penis when it retracted back in and it kept bleeding & getting cut up, the rescue realised he had something sharp in his bits. So they had to amputate the penis & “turn him into a girl” ie make a false vulva so he could urinate from there. (From memory) Ps sorry Lulu for going off topic! <— me
  16. Hmm that’s not good. Wouldn’t be too happy about that... they do seem to need to get it fixed because a fair few (I think 20) reviews were saying they took months to restock & send them what they ordered, or they sent them a substitute without asking. That’s pretty poor to advertise something as in stock when it really isn’t, and advertise 3-4 day shipping when it’s been almost a week...
  17. Oh that’s a shame @Diva As they say, feed what is best for YOUR dog. (But still feed as best you can imo.)
  18. Meals for mutts is still a good food, if she’s fine on that just stick with it. I bought a bag last year to try our dogs on it but unfortunately it gave them stinky breath and runny poos I think. (We swapped them over gradually, and they both have pretty strong stomachs) Which is a shame because it sounds pretty good. We feed Black Hawk and occasionally SavourLife, they aren’t top of the top but they’re good and work for our dogs.
  19. Oh awesome. I’m going to call tomorrow, probably too late now to call today. I just read heaps of poor reviews about them though which gave me a bit of doubt. Apparently loads of products out of stock but still being sold, and taking months to restock? Fingers crossed it has been sent and just got stuck in the Xmas rush and turns up soon! They seem to have an excellent range. We’re restocking on first aid stuff since Monty’s little accident, and also shampoo (which is why I’ve been eager for the parcel, the dogs stink! )
