  1. I had a thought recently as we just finished chipping a litter of pups. Why does microchip paperwork not allow a space for pedigree name or breeder details. As a newer person to the breeding world but I KNOW that if a pup I'd bred ended up in the pound I would want to know so I can do what I can to rescue the dog and rehome it myself. I was just saying to OH that if we have a litter we should see if we can microchip the pups in their pedigree names so in that event we may .be able to be traced back to our pups. Anyone else got any thoughts on this idea
  2. I guess as well there's a lot more people breeding these dogs then what their was say 10yrs ago. But as well there appears to be more "demand" for breeds but with demands comes dumpage as well...
  3. I know of a friend who yes is a registered breeder who successfully bred her first litter of agility and obedience cockers. I guess it depends if there is a demand for your lines or is it more for YOU. My lowchen girl Ella is both an agility and show girl, whilst she hasn't got agility titles yet due to lack of trailing this year, (she's just turned 2) she has her show title I hope we will be able to breed pups who are good alrounders whilst at the same time correcting what we believe to be faults with her as she is not perfect but she has many fantastic qualities and is a decent representation of the standard. We just have to best pick a male who will compliment her and potentially correct issues. The reason why I'm telling you this, you need to be aware of your dogs faults as well as their good points as once again breeding is about battering the breed be it for sporting reasons or confirmation reasons, like for instance Ellas tail is not a perfect set IMO so we would pick a male with a correct set so that hopefully we woold get pups with better tails. What is your reason for breeding? Is it because you want something from the bitch/dog? How is it going to better the breed? Just a few questions you should be asking yourself
  4. Puppy pen around the gazebo.. no joke a lot of people at agility do it for their small children, they can watch the dogs and have their toys out without annoying anyone...
  5. Our lakies breeder has a mareema who lives with the sheep on her property it's fasinating to see real working dogs do their job. If I remember rightly when we went to pick up amber she also had a young pup in with the poultry. She was hoping the pup would eventually teach and give the older dog confidence when being handled as it wasn't too keen on routine jobs such as fleaing and nails
  6. Bigger block of land and a more dog friendly house. A car that could that could tow a decent dog trailer and a campervan so when we go away we can all be in comfort. OH would like a hydrobath at home lol!
  7. Thanks Le.. I'll keep on hunting for some decent plans then :)
  8. If you want sentinel samples cheap pm me I currently have like 30 packs of it as I'm involved in some program thingy.. have a number of single packs up for grabs. May be worth trying before buying a full pack but I'm pretty sure if I read it properly you have to have no fleas to start with. It manages cycles not kills them as in prevents new onews arriving.. If I remember rightly as well there used to be a wash stuff you could wash your floors in.. for keeping fleas away dunno if it still exists but may be worth checking.. I'd be on the phone to the real estate if your renting as I know our agreement despite our dogs never being inside we have to carpet clean and flea spray the place.. so they should be doing something about rectifying this.. you shouldn't be out pocket for this..
  9. Hi all.. trying to see if I can track down a reasonably inexpensive and decent quality dog walk or atleast a plan or some kind of idea. I would prefer it to be comp sized or close enough to it as I'm training running dogwalks here. I can find a local on ebay but 2k or close to that is insane imo Any suggestions would be great
  10. QLD is really slow when it comes processing and organising paperwork.. I wouldnt worry too much.. it took them close to 2 months to process my title paperwork and get it back to me
  11. No probs lol we already have a few kids in the ring so one more never makes a difference lol!!
  12. We rarely show round syd or I'd say one more wouldn't hurt lol!! Central coast on the other hand... if you can get him up this way I'd happily show him on occasion
  13. Sadly it's on Saturday only .. but thanks heaps :)
  14. My 10 yr old neice is hoping to do another round of handlers it'll only be her 3rd go in the ring but she's doing well.. 3rd and 1st places. So far she's handled a Lappie and our Lowchen with no issue.. Has anyone potentially got anything suitable she may be able to borrow? It doesn't have to be push button but someone thats pretty easy going and reliable is a plus.. really the only requirement OH insist on for any dog for any of us is a good nature :) Not fussy on breed or size.. providing my niece can handle it without fear she's happy.. her only issue is her nerves as we have explained to her she's in q tough age bracket but just try her best.. we're very proud of her and try to give her as many options to succeed as possible If you prefer PM me.. if we cant find a dog on the day shell just use our lowchen again but would prefer her to be able to learn more about other breeds as she's only recently started coming with us to shows Thanks
  15. Funny enough I helped One find it's home without even meeting the dog lol!! Someone posted on Dol about finding a cocker spaniel and if we knew anyone missing one pass on the info, funny enough the dog was found in my area.. Didn't think much of it and months later (I think, it wasnt in the very recent future lol) I had my dogs at the vet and I noticed a sign up there for a lost cocker.. Dug up the thread which was months old and happily the dog and his family were reunited :)
  16. Megan I had this same experience recently.. It's taken me a while to reply here.. My border collie boy did have this happen about 6 months into starting trialling he did an injury where he sprained his back toe. I didn't Catch the injury soon enough and as a result it did more damage then first though however it didn't show up until the long term. I did what I believed was the right things as the vets said that it will heal and he will be able to run again. I put him on (with vet suggestions) joint supplements, took him to a Chiro regularly, rested and in some cases pulled him from comps when he was looking sore or it was looking like his foot was uncomfortable, I also jumped him at lower heights when possible so it was less pressure on him and just in general kept weight off of him and made sure he was healthy. I got a second from a chiropractic vet who also was under the impression that den would be able to run again.. However even with regular Chiro trips and competing less and in some months not at all I was finding that den was still out of line when he had Chiro treatment and that he had an awkward gait and pulled up not as well as he should.. What should have been a simple recovery for a toe injury where he was off it for a good 2-3 months with the exception of lounging round the yard has turned into something else.. With this constant reoccurance and the stress it was putting on him physically and me mentally it wasnt worth it.. I was running out of options the next suggestion was to get a full back end X-ray done.. Sadly the funds just don't stretch that far.. I made the decision to retire Den from agility.. He's now living back with my parents and enjoying being a lazy dog. His injury doesn't seem to effect everyday living and he happily gets around and plays ball but not for hours on end as he does pull up with a limp on occasion but whilst he is getting around pain free and can comfortably walk we're not worried.. I miss him everyday but I do believe that there was something structurally poor about him when I rescued him which has caused him to be like this or that the toe sprain has lead to more damage then suspected.. I have learnt from this though like for instance we have a young lakie who has a slight luxating patella and we are constantly checking rechecking and evaluating, I want to get it x-rayed and assed for both us and our breeder before I do any serious training with her but for now we have fun and continue to do what we can to encourage her leg to strengthen on its own as she grows..if she can't do agility so be it.. There's plenty more in the world for her Agility is a fantastic thing and whilst your dog may not be in pain and happily running what damage are you doing long term is it worth a few great years for te rest to be crappy? Or is it worth embracing something new and enjoying every year!
  17. I remember chad! He's a great little dog. There's also a chi called piper who runs in QLD is an awesome little dog! My Sheltie boy used to also do strategic pairs with a little chi x daccy they are amazing dogs just as trainable as any other dogs.. Don't let people get you down People wouldnt believe that Ella my lowchen girl would be capable of competing and doing things like other dogs, there seems to be a stigma with toy breeds but truth be told they are just as good as the bigger breeds! Good luck and have fun!!
  18. You can make it yourself :) its not too difficult to knock up some for fun days. I'll see if I can find some plans. If you were in NSW I'd be happy to make some simple equipment or show you how to do it
  19. Thanks Showdog!! I'm sure my neice will be itching and freaking out once we tell her
  20. Anyone have the schedule of when events such as jr handlers and agility and grooming comps are on cos not only do we have show dogs in lol we have the other 3 disciplines LOL
  21. Ella and amber are mine.. Ella is turd for OH even though he's had her since she came home. Amber I had no intentions on her being mine lol she's supposed to be his!! But she is a complete mess for him in the ring if I am near by or if I go away lol shell only train for me lol!!! Leo on the other hand is OHs he's a happy cuddly boy for me but doesn't work for me.. Only stresses but for OH he is on fire lol! Runs like a dream :)
  22. We have 4 dogs here ATM, sometimes 5 that range from 5yrs - 3.5mths it can be a lot of work but once you have a routine and plans established its not that bad at all! We also co- own 2 of our dogs and show another (the 5th) so she's only here when it's show time.. Things like crates and baby gates are god sends. When there's no one here we have 2 sep groups usually the lowchen inside on the tiles and the lakie and the afghan outside.. One of our dogs is a whole male who only came to us at 3yrs old.. We discovered the first week he piddled around the place and he still will if we're not careful but if you look for the signs (sniffing round.. Ect) it's an easy habit to control, also cleaning where he piddled well discourages him from doing it again.. Humping only occurs if a bitch is in season or if our afghan has had a bath.. He is OBSESSED with her lmao! But once again we know the signs and triggers so we discourage him and prevent him from doing it.. But honestly its no issue.. The jump from one - two is not much diff you learn to adjust!
  23. I've been in bed all day with a congested head and sinuses.. OH let the kids in before he left this morning and I just hauled my ass up for 5 min to let them out for piddles... My good snuggle bugs, tried to get photos except they kept moving lol!!
  24. I'm a mean mummy tonight.. Making my kids sleep in their "room" aka the kitchen/ bathroom lol.. Sore neck and shoulders from sharing the pillow with Leo the last few nights.. OH will let them in for cuddles in the morning and good chance is they'll stay for sleep ins lol!! They still have their glamors though, beds and matts and 2 crates with comfy matts and if it's really cold Ella gets her jumper on lol!! It's their room for during the day when we're at work lol lowchen inside and lakie and afghan out lol
