  1. Site link The poor dog was just minding his own business, eating his bone in the back yard. When do the parents claim responsibility for not protecting their own child?
  2. I am sorry for your loss Kirislin. I'm just glad you got to spend a few more hours with Kibah to say goodbye after taking her to the vet. Until you meet again,
  3. Now you have me crying. What a beautiful send-off you gave your girl. I am very sorry for your and your hubby's loss of Bella. I have no words that will help but sending hugs your way.
  4. Oh my, I hope you are not overly attached to your belongings! Sounds like you're going to have your hands full :) On the other hand though, he sounds like a real character and you should make a habit of carrying a camera with you wherever you go...please!
  5. I am so sorry you had to make the decision to farewell your Bella today. She was loved and cared for the way all dogs should be, she had the best life. Sending you and your hubby hugs on this sad day.
  6. I am sorry you and your girl are going through this Kirislin. Good on you for not giving up until you have all the facts. Sending good thoughts your way, no matter what happens.
  7. I am very sorry for your loss Mooper. Fourteen years is a good long life for a dog that has gone through the health problems Jack had. Wishing you and your family strength as you deal with your loss. Rest in painless peace, little Jack.
  8. How devastating for you and your family. Stella lived as long as she did because of you and your love for her. I hope your daughter is ok, having found Stella. I am very sorry for your loss cavmad. Rest in peace, Stella.
  9. I just buy milk thistle tablets from the supermarket. If I can't find it, I buy "Liver Detox" tablets (by Suisse, I think). I used to give my 30kg dog 1 tablet a day but after 8 years on anti-seizure meds his liver levels also started rising so I've doubled the dosage. His last blood test showed his levels had come down a little since doubling the dosage.
  10. I wish your boy a long time on his legs still. Casper's DM started in September 2010 and he is mostly still walking on his own. When he's tired he looks like he's been on a heavy night out but he's a fighter. Is your DM dog the one with the incontinence?
  11. I am thrilled with where you are all at. This wipes away any doubts you may have had about your decisions. Please keep us posted.
  12. you have fought a hard battle, I am so pleased it all seems positive. How is the young lady doing on 3 legs. I really hope this is the last of it for her, poor thing has gone through a lot already. Thank you for the updates Dave.
  13. What a beautiful dream! I just love getting a visit from Bella in my dreams though it's only happened twice. I am so glad that you saw Missy and Raiden together, happy and healthy. I really hope they come to see you again.
  14. I have tears in my eyes, Tynka's last moments reminded me of Bella's. I am so sorry for your loss T&S. It wasn't that long ago that you lost Sam and then Tara, I'm sorry you're going through this again so soon. Big hugs.
  15. Casper, 12.5yo, has degenerative myelopathy. The disease has now progressed to the stage where he poos in his sleep without knowing or gets the urge to go toilet too late to make it out onto the lawn. I used to get home from work and have to clean up German Shepherd sized poo from the ceramic tiles and grout and sometimes off the carpet as he'd try to get out quickly. Hubby suggested we lock Casper out and got told off for it ;) We bought a roll of vinyl (looks like floor planks) which we have laid in the places Casper has access to. I will admit, it is not pretty, but it will stay down while my boy still breathes. It is much easier to clean up now, although the colour we chose might not have been the best decision as it's the same colour as the poo Definitely one of the downsides of old age in our pets.
  16. I'm sorry your little guy has taken a turn. I wish him strength and a speedy recovery. I hope the transfusion goes well. Hugs to you.
  17. After Casper's last seizure the vet did suggest we give the valium rectally...a bit late to tell me that! Casper is usually ravenous in his post-ictal phase so it was always easy to feed him the valium in a slice of ham. It sounds like Zig's seizures are really mild, don't be too distressed about putting him on meds. You'll be much happier once he stops seizing. I would recommend you support his liver once you start too. I get my liver tablets from the supermarket. Anne, I'm sorry you're still battling with Boof. I hope you get good results from the path tests.
  18. Hi staffyluv, I'm sorry you're going through this with Zig. They always keep us on our toes, don't they? Casper started having seizures at the age of 3. The vet wanted to "wait and see" whether this was temporary but after 6 months the seizures were getting closer and more frequent. We put him on 100mg Pb twice daily which stopped his seizures for about 3 years. For the first two weeks he was ataxic, unable to walk in a straight line and falling over but that settled and he was back to normal. His seizures started up again when he slipped going through his dog-door and panicked, he was half in, half out the door lying on his side. It was not fun trying to push a seizing dog through a dog door!! His seizures became frequent again so we doubled the Pb dose. The seizures continued and we added Potassium Bromide (200mg twice daily) to his routine. He has now been seizure free for about 6 years. When he first started on the Pb at age 3, I also started giving him milk thistle tablets for his liver. His liver has only now started showing signs of "wear" which is not bad after 9 years and for a 12 year old dog. After a seizure, Casper would pace frantically for hours, looking very confused. My vet suggested I give him valium (5mg) every hour until he settled. Good luck, I hope you get on top Zig's seizures quickly.
  19. Casper, aged 12. He has really aged this summer but still lights up my life. It's so nice to see all the oldies. We all share the same battles and fears but wouldn't have it any other way. eta to fix photo
  20. Bella was 11 when this was taken, a month before she passed away. You would never have known anything was wrong with her. I still miss her every single day. eta to sort out photo
  21. Happy Anniversary HW (and staffyluv!). There's a certain sense of normality coming onto DOL and seeing all the "ol-timers" posting all the time. Here's to the next 10
  22. They certainly do become more special as they age...time just seems to slip away and we never know how much longer we'll have them! Wow HazyWal, 16 years is a great old age, that's a whole lot of loving :) Not sure my hubby will last another 4 years without a holiday 'cos I refuse to go on one while my boy is still around! Thank you.
  23. You're all too sweet. Thank you for your comments. He has already surpassed all expectations by still being here and I'm doing my best to keep him here a little longer
  24. 12 years ago, a small, white bundle of energy with big feet and big ears stole my heart. He has been my shadow, my running companion, my joy. Today he is an old boy who struggles to get up and spends his days sleeping under the overhead fan. Sometimes he sleeps so deeply, I stop what I'm doing to look for the rise and fall of his chest. He still awakes at 5am and comes to find me for his morning walk, where we used to run for 5km we now walk for 15 mins, have a rest, then walk back. His mind is still young and he thinks he can do more but the body won't let him. Together with Bella we have walked and ran many miles together, seen heaps of sunrises and sunsets, been to parks and beaches and creeks. I would have missed out on so much had I not had my dogs and I am so very grateful for every day that Casper is still with me. I know one day he will be by Bella's side once again, but not yet. Not yet.
  25. I used to use them with excellent results. Flies would come in, next time I'd see them they would be belly-up somewhere near a window. Then Bella got cancer. She was my tough as nails, never a sick day in her life dog fighting for her life. That's when it occured to me that those sprays are designed to KILL things. If a fly can die after one or two sprays, what was it doing to my animals who were in the house all day? Maybe the spray had nothing to do with it but I switched it off and have never used it again. I swopped over to those smelly fly traps outdoors and caught hundreds of them. I had to replenish it because there was no space for the new flies to land. At night I switch on a zapper for the mozzies which also works really well.
