Looking to adopt a new friend
_PL_ replied to mrmaxwalker's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Where are you? I'd take my number down, you could get scammers unfortunately. -
Was there a topic on “catching flies”?

HELP! 12 Wk Female Puppy - Chronic UTIs
_PL_ replied to peach2310's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes I was wondering about ectopic ureter but the more common causes would need to be ruled out first. Possibly even a trial of propalin before getting into heavy duty diagnostics? -
Yes. It's just a supplement.

VitB/Tryptophan helps. They make Behave paste for dogs now (smaller size tube), you used to be only able to get a horse size one! https://www.petstock.com.au/product/horse/troy-behave-paste-30ml/50874

Sad really. If a rescue does their proper checks it's a great time of year to adopt! This would be harder for shelters though or those who aren't doing adoption applications and yard checks. Fortunately our phone numbers aren't public. We do tend to get those inquiries any school holidays and for urgent birthday presents any time of year. Primarily if we have pups or a young fluffy. People can really crack a wobbler if you tell them to hold their horses.

WOOF Dog Rescue has beautiful bottle fed Amstaff pups ready for adoption. Just thought I'd mention it.

Run! Despite it being illegal to sell non-microchipped pets it's disgustingly negligent to not vaccinate or worm (pups can die from worms! and summer is rife with parvo!). Find an ethical pedigree breeder. You'll likely pay more but it's worth it. And yes, you're likely to lose any kid's toys you don't keep away from a puppy.

I'd have her on any/all drug/s that worked. Cortisone every couple of months is virtually useless if not combined with actual pain relief like - metacam, previcox, tramal, gabapentin etc. And Cartrophen shots periodically. She is old and doesn't have long, and deserves to be as comfortable as possible. Don't let her suffer with crippling pain.

Have both done As JRG says, hormones can help the tumours grow. The girls we get in with mammary tumours have no vet history. (So that doesn't answer your question sorry!) Most have multiple masses, but the % that has spread outside of the mammary chain is relatively small thank goodness. We've had to do entire chain stripping too and gotten rid of all the cancer before it's spread. Everyone with tumours gets a chest xray too as you can clearly see spotting if tumours have spread outside the chain. I'm only telling you this unhelpful rambling story so you know it's quite common in entire mature girls. So please don't stress too hard about an isolated lump you've found so early. Aggressive or not, it's going to be removed asap. And you can always opt for pathology if you want. But yes I'd desex at the same time under the one GA. Anecdotally, we've never had tumours recur in spayed gals.

Awful isn't it! And quite scary if you aren't used to seeing it. But it's a flu, it runs it's course. Max time I've seen is two weeks but I've also noticed the average is one week and while the gagging and coughing is distressing, just think of it as you would if a human has the people version. Lots of TLC, comfy quiet spots to sleep, maybe a bit of manuka honey to help soothe the throat. I can't remember which antibiotics don't combine with vitamin C so check with your vet if it's ok to add some Melrose Vit C powder to her water (calcium ascorbate, non acidic). As T says, if there is yellow running boogers, there is a secondary infection. But you have antibiotics already so are already ahead of that.

Sorry, could be just me but I'd never leave an 11wk old companion breed alone in the back yard. It's a recipe for a very noisy anxious puppy who just wants to be with someone but can't. And can be the beginning of a barking problem. Is there any reason you can't crate train indoors? Crates are a great substitute to a den, it's somewhere they can feel safe, sleep and play with their toys.

Thanks RP we're a bit full, I'm trying to tag Jane (Dogmad) who has contacts with some of the best in Sydney but it won't work! edit; oops I didn't put her full name in LOL @Her Majesty Dogmad .

I've only got dose rates for allergies and although the side effect can be sedation I've never noticed it at the allergy dose rates, probably best to check with your vet for higher doses. Complete calm is good if you're looking for calming but non-sedating, and something you can use daily with no worries. Normally I'd recommend a travel crate too but one for a 15kg dog might take up a fair bit of room!

I got sent this US FDA article not long ago https://www.fda.gov/AnimalVeterinary/NewsEvents/CVMUpdates/ucm620934.htm

Can you have a specialist go through the records and write a report? I'm not sure if they do this (without seeing the patient) but it's worth asking. May help you in at least getting vet fee compensation.

Sounds like she gobbled food but not enough water to go with it.

If that doesn't work, I get wheat from the health food store and sprout it. It comes up fast and gets eaten while it's still soft.

Transporting 9 Week Old Puppy - JetPets/Dogtainers
_PL_ replied to Tickentash's topic in General Dog Discussion
I picked up a ten week old from a direct flight of about 4 hours travel all up, I think the trip was pretty much forgotten with the excitement of all that attention on arrival. Think it also depends as I know some breeders won't send toy breeds before 12 weeks but that would be an answer for more experienced puppy people. -
