Senior Silky Female adoption - Victoria
_PL_ replied to Lyneee58's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Lola is one of ours. She's ex-puppy farm, and understandably not a fan of crates/pens etc so unaccompanied transport isn't an option for her. We do interstate on the occasion that an adoptive home is willing to do the travelling (and we can organise a yard check). One lovely couple came from SA to adopt another from WA, but it's not always a reasonable distance for many. Lola is up near Port Macquarie. I'd definitely try RWL if distance is a factor. -

Looks like they read my post and have offered to delete the account for us. -
Adoption fee "too expensive"
_PL_ replied to RuralPug's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Oh that old chestnut. I make no absolutely apologies for rescuing old dogs, nor spending the money on them. Nor do I apologise for our adoption policies or adoption fees. If you don't like it, open your own doors to anything or anyone homeless and see if you can look them in the eye and say they aren't worth it. -

Then you don't have to adopt that dog. -

This is the rescue section of the forum for all breeds. Again, if you want to debate the ethics of rescuing this isn't the thread, you're taking it off topic. The vetwork, care, lifetime backup etc we put in on ALL dogs either from the pound or surrendered more than makes up for a relatively small adoption fee. -

Sigh. Yes, not the topic at all. Start a new thread if you want to debate where rescue gets their dogs from. -

That's from another thread on a completely different topic. I can't answer your question anyway because if someone wants a dog from a BYB there isn't much rescue can do except advocate for desexing. -

There's nothing much you can say to hagglers. On the flip side I've had people spend more in travel (after a yard check etc) than on the dog so it all evens out. I like your response though. $350 is a bargain compared to vetwork. Most just can't afford to take the hit if you're running a small group without the benefit of a high rate of donations. We've also got other dogs being vetworked who will never be rehomed (the Forever Care dogs). And no, not too strict. The dog is yours and if you were rehoming one of your own that wasn't a foster you would still do the same. I think people forget that the dogs live in our homes and become one of the family so sending them off to take a chance on being the right fit is just risky in my opinion. Others will disagree but such is rescue. People thank us in the end for taking care so again, it more than makes up for the very few complainers. -
Pica. I agree with juice, a basket muzzle. They are brilliant, and being so young it might help break what will become a habit.

I can't find anything either. Think you have to request deletion. Best I could do over the weekend was to pull the dogs down, I'll chase up the account stuff although I think there might be a queue of complaint emails there to get through first. -

Thanks T. I hadn't actually seen this before!!!! OMG. https://www.petrescue.com.au/bequests Should the need arise, PetRescue will take responsibility for ensuring your pets are resettled into a loving new home. Exactly. And given he's the brother of the boss it's even more questionable. For anyone who missed it, they sent rescues an email last thing on Thursday. A kind of Happy Easter email. It was full of good will and in no way tasteless and insulting. http://savingpets.com.au/blog/happy-easter-from-petrescue -
Help Me Pick A Worming and Flea Treatment Combo
_PL_ replied to luffy4688's topic in General Dog Discussion
I use Advantage in flea season only (alt for tick areas is Advantix year round) and do the heartworm (monthly) and allworm (6 monthly) separately. It's a bit fiddly but I have some older dogs and prefer to avoid the multi treatments and like to tailor things. -

So many terriers on the list -
Yes that's kind of 'how long is a piece of string?'. No real answer. The breeder is now the owner again and they can charge what they like, there's no rules in place. I think it's great they took one of their mature dogs back though, that's good backup to have.
-
Yes it's a prosecutable offence under the POCTAA to abandon animals but you have to catch someone at it.

Clean Run ship to Aus, sometimes they would have free/cheap overseas shipping special. edit; actually looking at their stock, they haven't got what you are looking for.

I love Pods4Pets Machine washable, easy dry cover that doesn't show dirt, and all the separate parts (cushion, inner liner, cover) can be purchased on their own if something gets worn out or if you want a change of cover. Not wipeable, you'd have to brush the hair off. But they are so comfy, favourites in my house!
-
They may have been dumped at the pound but not necessarily by their owner, that would technically be a surrender and they would go straight into the pets for adoption section.

Managing elderly dogs overnight - advice please!

Kibble swells up in the stomach with some water, I don't like using it near bedtime because it can make them pee in the night but it definitely bulks up in their tummy and is quite filling. Sorry if you already use it. I was just thinking bedtime snack. We don't get through much dry here. A bag lasts forever lol.
