  1. Pred is a steroid, so great short term, almost instant relief. Long term it can have side effects like weakened immune system, muscle wastage and thinning hair. So getting to the root of the itchies is normally best. For many itchy dogs, if the other potential causes can be eliminated we use a 6 - 8 wk exclusion diet and no treats. Do you have access to Prime 100? We eliminate all poultry, this includes the poultry in dry food. Easiest way is using the Prime 100 single protein roo. Advanced food allergies can cause yeasty skin, hot or slimy or infected ears, chewing of the feet, scratching around the mouth. Sometimes gummy eyes. At the beginning it can look like a contact or flea allergy. Apoquel has a few bad reviews but is the best medical alternative to preds and is great for seasonal/environmental allergies because you can't exactly stop them from coming into contact with things like grass or pollen. Then as dogsfevr says, could be one of many things. Go back over what might have changed.
  2. More BYB frenchies then asal. More to be bred from, more to go through the pound/rescue system or into the hands of your favourite orgs like the rspca. How do you think the mother ended up the way she is? She once had a breeder too. I bet she was originally born to someone who never ever predicted she'd end up where she is and 'trusted' someone. Stop the cycle.
  3. Yes, once you part with them you have no say over desexing. 'Desexing agreements' aren't worth the paper they are written on.
  4. For enforcement and prosecution, how does a state/territory law stand up against federal? Meaning POCTAA.
  5. There's no home remedies. A trip to the vet for antibiotics now is going to cost you a lot less than a septic dog later.
  6. Add the price of desexing and have them done. You've got a breed that backyard breeders are loving because of the price tag and they will break their necks to get hold of cheap undesexed frenchies.
  7. I see red flags and you've had a warning. I believe your small dog, your original, has a right to live without fear in their own home. Sorry but I wouldn't keep the rescue dog on that basis alone. Please please keep them apart. Please contact the rescue as soon as possible so they can take the dog back and get him/her to a place with access to temperament assessment or behaviourist etc. A good rescue will take their dog back and do what needs to be done for the dog. Mismatching can happen even with the best of planning on both sides, listen to your head. edit
  8. I check ebay for everything Hepatic dry and tinned went down like a lead fart with my dear departed boy. He would rather have eaten nothing at all so I totally get why you're stressing.
  9. Coles are selling semi-moist roo on ebay. Is that the type you're looking for? Nothing worse than not being able to find a much needed food.
  10. You can start your own crowdfunding campaign and post it here then set it up to have the charity withdraw the donations so they don't have to go via your bank account. That's all I know though, you'd need to read the fine print. I'm a bit crap with that side of things and normally 'delegate' LOL.
  11. It's a lot to come up with all at once isn't it. I was lucky enough to be able to dedicate a whole page on the website to each surgery dog. With updates for the donors etc. If you can't do that, it won't hurt if the rescue can do an album on their FB page. Or use their instagram account. But Pandi-girl is right, crowdfunding seems to be the way to go now if you can get your link shared all over the place. Otherwise, if they just kind of sit there you don't get much traction. We ran a raffle once and raised over $4k, it was haaaard work and took a lot of organising but worth it. If you have the time to source great prizes that suit all kinds of people (not just dog people) you'll find the tickets sell very easily, and many by word of mouth because supporters like to sell books of them to friends and workmates.
  12. This is not ok I don't care if it's rescue or not. All I see is discomfort and stress and potential for contagious disease. No idea what the rescue situation is in America TBH but that transport is disgusting and should be banned.
  13. That's awesome! He is such a good surgeon and so good with the dogs.
  14. Dr Eugene Buffa did a fantastic job on our Speedy (who needed both hind legs done). We went back to him to get a very unusual bone tumour removed from Winnie's mouth. I'd go back to him in a heartbeat if needed.
  15. Sounds like a good plan I forgot to say
  16. More recall training before off-leash. If you can't call your pup back to you it will happen again. On both occasions your dog got in the pittie's face and it could have ended badly simply because of the strength/size difference. Pinning a pup to the ground for bad behaviour is not exclusive to breed. It's a dog thing.
  17. I wonder if they found the blue 3 legged staffy's home?
  18. Yes that's not a balanced diet. I was going to suggest a vitamin/mineral supplement when I saw the topic but I think you need to work on the menu first.
  19. Vetpay has a location tool on their website so you can find the nearest vet. Don't let him suffer.
  20. Is it banned or just impossible to find a vet who does it? I don't have first hand experience of having it done but we've had a few (small breeds) come in from pounds over time. They didn't seem to have a clue at all, I could still hear them it just didn't carry as far if that makes sense. They weren't silenced and definitely hadn't given up barking. Pro/con debate aside, what upsets me most is that people have to give up their dearly loved dogs because of barking, potentially to die at the pound or bounce to another home. Very sad and imho very cruel for everyone involved imho. As Sydney gets higher density there will be more and more of this. Asal, I had one AR woman tell me with a completely straight face that breeders use a coat hanger down the throat to debark. She really believed that. .
  21. Entire male is far too interested. Keep that little dog safe before something happens!
  22. No idea. The owner posted a piccy of her and the dog and said he is going home.
  23. I think you're right LG. This sounds ghoulish sorry but she has to have been burying them somewhere. I think if they took metal detectors out they would get pings from collar buckles. Maybe find some answers for some dear people who have lost dogs. I don't think we'll ever know where they all are. Those poor inspectors and vets. It's nightmarish.
