  1. Vetpay has a location tool on their website so you can find the nearest vet. Don't let him suffer.
  2. Is it banned or just impossible to find a vet who does it? I don't have first hand experience of having it done but we've had a few (small breeds) come in from pounds over time. They didn't seem to have a clue at all, I could still hear them it just didn't carry as far if that makes sense. They weren't silenced and definitely hadn't given up barking. Pro/con debate aside, what upsets me most is that people have to give up their dearly loved dogs because of barking, potentially to die at the pound or bounce to another home. Very sad and imho very cruel for everyone involved imho. As Sydney gets higher density there will be more and more of this. Asal, I had one AR woman tell me with a completely straight face that breeders use a coat hanger down the throat to debark. She really believed that. .
  3. Entire male is far too interested. Keep that little dog safe before something happens!
  4. No idea. The owner posted a piccy of her and the dog and said he is going home.
  5. I think you're right LG. This sounds ghoulish sorry but she has to have been burying them somewhere. I think if they took metal detectors out they would get pings from collar buckles. Maybe find some answers for some dear people who have lost dogs. I don't think we'll ever know where they all are. Those poor inspectors and vets. It's nightmarish.
  6. I've removed the photos because they were big. 100 animals still missing from Storybook. The stories are very sad.
  7. I can see the problem being that groups who use carers would be a) too expensive and random to police and b) I can't see many carers who just want a dog or two a year being happy with having strangers inspect their private home. Visiting carers or if that can't be done: receiving photos and verifying I.D. w/ written agreement should be up to the rescue. And the rescue should have their ducks in a row. And if they need help getting themselves organised, a bit of organising amongst the various registries and authorities would go a long way to helping. Even some written material would be a start! I can't say who but I've been watching another rural 'sanctuary' setup and while they are still in the honeymoon period of collecting a mass of animals it's going to fall to sh*t eventually. We'll end up with knee-jerk legislation that makes it impossible to rescue at all.
  8. I agree. Problem is, how do you find these 'pop-up' FB rescues? We've got lots of things out there. We've got online ACNC and fundraiser licence checks, state microchip registries and reporting, dog ownership council regs & state regs, AWL & RSPCA will go out per reports, rangers will too. But nobody is working together to govern rescues in particular. It could be done with what is in place currently and wouldn't have to be so heavy that rescues couldn't operate at all. Maybe the majority of those that are running as a complete shambles could be helped if there was something concrete in place. I'm getting to where I trust maybe a handful of rescues. Despite some having thousands of supporters (or likers and followers), some of the stuff happening in facebook rescue makes me cringe but nobody notices what's going on amongst the 'you're an angel' posts.
  9. Food allergy often goes undiagnosed. The itch primarily presents around the mouth/chin, toes, groin and ears (often rpt infections). I'd try a 6 week exclusion diet of Prime 100 roo and potato. I did have a dog who nothing worked for (and you can't use steroids constantly) and he did well on cyclosporin but unfortunately passed away before Apoquel came out which has worked really well on itchy foster dogs.
  10. RSPCA blog IMAGE WARNING https://www.rspcaqld.org.au/blog/fact-check/storybrook-farm-sacred-animal-garden-rescue-raid?fbclid=IwAR2MOQLgPoYLZvJWoJVzrlU1CU1i4oE7Ks_X_i8ujO-lQe1nxq0E7l3WsJQ
  11. Off topic @Little Gifts I just sent a request to join your FB group. What a great idea!
  12. I also find it hard to reconcile in my mind, the good and bad sides to rspca. But this raid, that's them doing the job they are supposed to do. Prevention Of Cruelty to Animals. If it means rescues like this are exposed I'm all for it. They are destructive to the lives of their animals and don't deserve to call their activities 'rescuing' when so many bust their guts to run ethically.
  13. Cached version of their now closed fundraiser with a lovely fluffy story to match.... https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:5nL-alRkiTEJ:https://gogetfunding.com/fundraiser-in-support-of-storybook-farm-sacred-animal-garden/+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=au
  14. Disgusting 'rescue' from last year .... https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-03-14/disabled-animal-sanctuary-looks-for-new-home-storybook-farm/9542140

  16. Anne is right. The environment is always a factor and she just isn't the right fit, not your fault or the dog's. I'm surprised trainers haven't advised you you're pushing poo up a hill. I'd never send a senior toy breed off to a boot camp either!! Please don't even consider it. Drugs yes, crate training yes, but not sending her away. Happy to help if you need to find a rescue group who won't be rehoming her to an inappropriate home. Depends on your area/state, just message.
  17. PR have deleted accounts for less than that. Apparently 'gross misconduct'' will get you removed so maybe animal welfare charges don't count if you change the contact name.
  18. Are we talking about ANKC registered breeders and a papered pup? Or just a 'breeder'. There is a way that dodgeys/farmers launder their pups through another state because the chips are registered on different registries and numbers bred can't be tracked. Stat dec suggestion is the best way to go really. It's a nightmare trying to chase up a blank chip with no implanter recorded.
  19. They are called senile warts and common in oldies. But vets don't like to remove them unless the dog is under anaesthetic for something necessary. Does your oldie need a dental? That's the best time to do them. Recently mum Mum's dog had one removed because it was bleeding and she isn't young at all, maybe it depends on what the vet thinks as to whether they deem it cosmetic or appropriate? But if he's continually making it bleed, to me that's something I'd insist on as long as health problems don't prevent it. Being old doesn't immediately rule out a dog having such minor surgery IMHO.

  21. I feel like a broken record and have posted this a few times before but our adoption rates have not changed at all since we left. Rescuers; if you're scared to leave, do a trial run. Advertise your dogs anywhere and everywhere and you will still keep getting adoptions. Try Rescue Network, Pound Paws, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, E-newsletters, Gumtree , build a cheap and cheerful website, blog about your animals, notice boards, go to council/community run adoption days, even trivia nights to get your name out there .... and there's more I'm sure. Oh and brand your material such as adoption forms etc so people know who you are, remember to do post adoption followup calls or emails too. You don't have to be big, just pro-active and thinking outside of the box. As for the new system. WTF? You'd have to be crazy.
  22. Good for the dreaded poo-toe! I recall a similar thing in the snowy areas of the US to get the mud and salt (salt they put down to melt the snow) off doggy paws.
