The cat thing in NSW is strange. Yes absolutely they are a pet, and yes you should take them to the pound or have them scanned for a chip at the vet because someone might be missing them and because they still come under the Act as companion animals. However unless it is a health hazard like hanging around food preparation or crapping in kid's playgrounds, cats are (also per the Act) allowed to roam. So chipping (and desexing if you can afford it) of unchipped strays is considered ok somehow and probably your only alternative if your council isn't taking them. Some areas have a curfew so I'm not sure what happens there either but that's per council by-laws. So with a vacuum of ways to prevent increasing numbers there are numerous groups who concentrate on controlling breeding by trapping colony aka community cats, desexing and then releasing back to the colony, and rescuing the kittens. And when I say prevent increasing numbers, I mean cat euth rates were sky high. True about the RSPCA. They do run some pounds but also just operate as their own entity. Reading back, I'm not making a lot of sense because it used to be different. Hopefully someone who does TNR or Pound work can explain further.

Plenty, especially when they are apparently constantly working on corporate sponsorship, there is no reason they can't get it done one way or the other. -

We do get things like cat subsidies, jackets, a couple of flights, dog food and the latest thing is Frontline ..... but they pay for none of it. They facilitate but claim credit. An itemised list has never been offered nor the results from the 'member survey' but I'm not game to ask LOL. I bitch and moan enough as it is. They are looking for new nicer area offices for Melbourne now. (They have WA offices already). We're working towards getting off PR altogether and deleting the account. Anyone not using theirs anymore needs to delete and walk now. -

Please download and PM (message) this alert to your local rescue group. They're likely too busy doing *actual rescuing* to be aware that this is going on behind the scenes and that they're losing funds right now. -

How about this paid FB ad with lots of key words all smooshed together into an even vaguer spiel. -

True except we're talking about 1 entity whose revenue last year was over $1mil (as reported in their financials which every charity must submit). And they call themselves Pet Rescue. You can be forgiven for thinking the donations go to us because the wording is very clever. BUT They don't rescue our dogs, they don't pay for desexing and they don't rehome. All they do is run a trading post for dogs/cats to be listed on. This latest 'Desexmas' cash grab of $50k to $100k is to make amendments to their website. None of it goes to desexing a single pet. Not $1. -

Born from Shel's extensive research, asking rescues exactly what they need and what the obstacles are now that PR are cutting us out of welfare donations and individual presence. I know there's been attempts at starting new PR sites and even new DOL sites but it takes the support of a community to get these things off the ground. Anyway, brand new so please be kind and please share. In the first couple of days there are some rescues on board already. http://rescuelink.com.au/ -
I use small plastic archive boxes stacked for the steps. I did buy what DD has but the same problem, great for getting up but too narrow or steep or something for the seniors to get down so they use the boxes with non-slip on them and seem very happy for getting both up and down. Not attractive but it works well.

And something truly awkward in a podcast if you have time to listen to drivel. While JB tries to explain why they want and an exorbitant amount of money, to build a 'button' while not actually rescuing anything. But it's all for our own good you know because they offer a 'bunch of other services' and really work hard with us to help rehome pets. Aren't they wonderful. Don't hold your breath waiting for this imaginary money to come rolling in once this gets set up. A truly honest service wouldn't collect every email and hit up every single inquiry we get before we even have a chance to respond. PODCAST
