  1. Just a comment, no real help but we've had great results with Apoquel. Really good. Expensive but if your vet will write a script you can get it online much cheaper. As well as poultry free diets for dogs with food allergies. Read the bag carefully but I resorted to home made because chicken seemed to be in everything. Roo went straight through! But lamb or fish was fine. Z/D prescription diet did nothing and was a waste of money. Had to be thrown out.
  2. Broke-arse Rescuer Located in Sydney NSW Available for interstate adoption. Adoption policy; Flexible We're seeking adoption for nice if not a bit bitey rescuer. After 15 years of work, she doesn't need a lot of exercise and is on joint supplements to help her creaky knees. She's well house trained and somebody obviously loved her before she came to us. A working breed; ideally, we need her a nice safe job where she can rescue but not really. I mean kind-of. Not actually touch the rescued animals anymore but maybe pose for photos with them. That would suit her down to the ground. She's easily bored and will have a hard time settling on just one task at hand. She will want to be everywhere all at once. Internet, newspapers, events, off-colour fundraising. All that good stuff. No heavy lifting of any kind. She'll be helpful with self promotion and attending industry events. Loving a pat on the back. She's an indoors human and must have full access to to a nice new office at all times. Must be paid an unseemly amount of money. If you're a self appointed (but not self funded) flagship charity considering adopting, this is your gal. Look forward to hearing from you. Cheers.
  3. Britt's Pet Taxi does distance driving. Dog Movers may go that way too but I'm not sure if they offer door to door.
  4. You've got to be kidding. Boston?!
  5. Feed her what she will eat. It helps if it's made fresh, not from the fridge. Feed her what she wants and the day she refuses even her favourites is the day she has had enough. I've had acupuncture done and sub cutaneous fluids to help with hydration (wellbeing). But unfortunately though, there is no holding back kidney failure and it can take them away from us very quickly. I forgot to add. A popular kidney failure meal has always been freshly cooked in the non stick pan. Human grade mince, egg white and cooked sweet potato. Made into little meatballs with farex to bind them. Carbs, quality protein, fibre and fats, not a 'recommended' diet though. Just a tasty one. But subQ fluids really help with appetite too.
  6. I'm no help. Just spoil him. If he's interested in food ... we give the old folks little tastes of everything. NikNak's favourite is a bite of peanut butter sandwich. Nothing special, just breaking the rules of not feeding people food. I know he hasn't got long, his liver is ..... old. He gets prescription diet but it's not tasty. We've got some IQ puzzles for the oldies to keep their minds active. They like those And it's fun to watch them work things out. Liver is too rich so we pop lamb puff in the puzzle instead. Beta blockers / dementia meds can assist, might be worth a try.
  7. I'm speechless. As of March 2017 they've been allowed to establish here. Purpose "Preventing or relieving suffering of animals" https://www.acnc.gov.au/RN52B75Q?ID=1B17A7B9-8C86-4004-B636-0602E688782A&noleft=1
  8. How do they feel about prescription drugs? Not everyone is a fan but there is a number available that can be used alongside behavioural modification and things like thunder shirts quite effectively. I've never had Adaptil do a single thing but some swear by it so may be worth a go too.
  9. I don't know about breeders but as a rescue we've had to up fees because the expenses of daily care and vet treatment has risen far above what it used to be. I'm not surprised at all by the pricing if it means a quality pup. Best wishes for finding your doggie though. Here's a list of GSD breeders if you need to explore options further, you may even find an older pup https://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/breeders/german-shepherd-dog.asp
  10. We have this page which might be of help too. Rehoming your pet
  11. You are welcome to cut & paste from out adoption form if you'd rather rehome that way but breed clubs are really a good recommendation.
  12. You can't see the deleted posts (as Willem) where he crossed the line. I'm not sad to see him go, again.
  13. Amputation is a bit extreme. In all the dogs we've had through with dodgy knees I've never had that advice before, and we've even had a foxy who needed both legs rebuilt (our little bionic dog!).
  14. Yes a change in personality is a big clue for CCD. I'd also insist a full blood panel is done, liver failure can cause confusion.
  15. I've used pea straw, out of all the mulches it seemed to me to be the most benign, even surprisingly sprouting peas! However after opening a bag of 'organic' cane mulch and finding it all moldy (i threw it out because it's hazardous) it occurs to me that to prevent mold forming in the plastic bag there might be an anti fungal agent. Not sure how that would effect it's breaking down in the garden but it's probably not good for dogs. Neither is the mold. In what way is the dog sick?
  16. If you're considering strangers have an agreement / written contract. Once you hand a dog over it's hard to get them back. Best of luck. edit; make sure the chip details are up to date with aa secondary contact as well. And the dog is desexed. Also make sure that you have an arrangement with a local vet to cover any bills.
  17. Edited this thread because I asked my big dog person I'm looking for a pretty but strong collar with double rings. The tag is important and the collar need to stay in place. Maybe someone has favourite collar brands? I like leather and saw a rolled braided martingale on etsy which is really nice. But from the US (I know they aren't a FT collar though) https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/459844958/brown-braided-premium-handmade-leather?ref=shop_home_active_7 But I like pink too. She has a bit of a mane and her current standard red leather w/studs has really cut a wide dent into the fluff.
  18. I get it but what an old curmudgeon LOL bah humbug A vent all the way from furbaby to Peta, he really needed to get this stuff off his chest didn't he.
