  1. Report the Dol member, that's disgusting! (who made the bogus report I mean)
  2. Take a big stick (or a riding crop) and don't hesitate to use it. People should keep their dogs secured on their property! Or take a drive and walk your dog somewhere else, it sucks that you have to do that though.

    Toby

So sorry Horus. Run free Toby.
  4. Another one I wouldnt leave my dog with. Yeah, a good walloping will fix those feral kids, and if that doesnt work, hit ''em a bit harder. Pebbles, you clearly shouldn't be grooming anymore, I'm shocked that a few people think it's fine to belt/shake/ a dog that is there to be groomed. If you can't groom them without resorting to strong-arm tactics, maybe you need to reassess your approach to difficult dogs. Oh yes and the ban on child smacking/punishing has turned out so well for today's society hasn't it? The amount of little ferals running around because they don't cop a good wallop is ridiculous -- the wooden spoon to the arse hasn't scarred me for life so what makes these little precious' so damn special? But back to the original post, Andisa runs her grooming business from home so I know I wouldn't just "rock up" because there's absolutely no guarantee she'd be home. You don't just go over to a friend's house and assume they'll be there and to me this is the same thing. Sure, if the salon was set up as a business in a building with office hours you could expect clients to just turn up without appointments (and demand to be squeezed in), but to appear at someone's house with not even a phone call to see if you're home is just rude IMO.
  5. So shaking, roaring at etc etc is deemed normal to you if a dog misbehaves? See , your the type of person I wouldn't let near my dog. If you worked in child care, I guess that smacking an unruly child who misbehaves is okay as well? [quote name=pebbles' timestamp='1315301886' post='5481700] Sorry to be hijacking your thread Andisa but, honestly, some people have no idea what grooming for the public can mean. The main thing is to know dog temperament, learn to read them, know when to 'soft soap' and know when to be firm or even firmer. It's a bit like kids, there's a smack and then there's abuse - 2 totally different things! Also like kids they can be fine if parents/owners aren't around and spoilt brats if they are accompanied. Would like to know what some would do when confronted with an OES, totally vicious, had to pin him to a wall with a chair so the Vet could sedate him? Now that was an abused dog, rescued by a good neighbour and brought to me to clean up. He ended up a lovely friendly boy. Never abused a dog in my life, just knew what was necessary to make a dog feel better!
  6. Such a big increase in dog attacks by roaming/ unleashed dogs in Victoria. I wonder if owners have driven to another area and dumped their dogs? ( just a thought )
  7. I'm pretty sure these dogs don't poop everywhere just to annoy you, in fact, they are probably stressed/anxious. Tell the owner you can't do it again without an appt, or make up a sign and put it on your door. Twice you've done it now, and he'll continue to just rock up with his dog unless you take a stand and learn to say NO. ;
  8. You did a great job SM, Monty came across as a really well behaved happy boy! Who else watched it?
  9. It was on here tonight in Victoria. Great story, well done SM, Monty was so well behaved! Graeme Smith was (as usual) an idiotic scare mongerer.
  10. Really scary for lots of unpapered dogs, that is ridiculous beyond words.
  11. Can you let us know how you go with that? Or pm me if your prefer? I'd just like to know if what the vet writes will hold any/more weight than a DNA breed profile. That was in the document that was shown to me, the info sheet that is this Standard. One of the provisions was that a vet state/certify as to what breed of dog it is. The other things were ANKC rego and other variations of that. Wish I could have kept a copy of it but the official thing will be released today anyway...........and by thing, I do mean THING. So they had a copy of the standard, but us dog owners haven't seen the damn thing yet, typical. Actually, if thats the case, It will be good if you can get a vet that actually knows about breeds to state what type of dog you have, I'm going to have to suss one around around here then. Dog only knows what the rest of the bill entails, by the sound of it though, it's a bit scary?
  12. Can you let us know how you go with that? Or pm me if your prefer? I'd just like to know if what the vet writes will hold any/more weight than a DNA breed profile.
  13. Same case here Cosmolo. Mine is fearful and has never shown human aggression in her life and would probably fail a temp test. What to do? Do we try and prove (I was going to get a dna test for her) that she is say...mostly staffy with a small percentage of (for example) mastiff? Or do I now register her as a restricted breed before the amnesty ends (shes currently registered as a staffy, but no papers) to safeguard her?
  14. Yep, your right about that, thanks Nekhbet, I'll have to organise one I think, is it just a cheek swab at the vets? Leema, great letter by the way, I'll be writing tomorrow when my head is a bit clearer.
  15. Will they accept DNA evidence that there is no pitbull though? Are the tests accurate? Im not up to speed with DNA in dog breeds.
  16. Its going to be a very heartbreaking month I think, for lots of owners and their dogs. I hope they are going to give us more info before the months "amnesty" is up, what a joke.
  17. And there could be a flip side to that as well, In where people who have pit types based on looks alone but are actually not, will be registering their dogs as such just to save their lives therefore having to abide by restrictions Very very tragic for many how ever we look at It I think Yes, thats the problem isnt it. I can't prove one of mine is a Staffy, (no papers) but she came from a reputable rescue group 5 years ago (as a pup) and is registered as a staffy (as advised) but could possibly have Amstaff as well. So any moron can ring the hotline, say there is a dangerous dog, the ranger comes out and then what....does he decide? This law is wrong is no many ways its not funny.
  18. So is your dog a restricted breed? If it isn't, there is no law that you have to desex, but your dog should be registered.
  19. Sorry, I stuffed up the quote, can't edit it on my phone.
  20. Thanks for the replies, it's such a bullshit law that won't solve anything, and I can imagine that a lot of Staffy x breed types will be dumped, and no doubt, the same types targeted.
  21. A knee jerk reaction due to the recent (tragic) death of the young girl by the neighbors dog. While I have no problem with registration, what worries me is they are going to include pitbull crosses. Who determines if my dog (staffy x amstaff) may be a pitbull cross? She is registered as a staffy, is microchipped, and desexed, but with the new law, can a ranger now deem her a pitbull cross if (hypothetically) someone rang the hotline and said there was a pitbull here?
  22. Ring your vet, does it say on the box/package what it contains?
  23. Your friend needs to get a behaviorist in to assess the dog at home, this isn't something to make a guess at over the Internet, and she should do it asap. What state or area is your friend in? There are some great behaviorists that come highly recommended by people on the forum. I've used one for some problems I've had with my own dog, and it was money well spent.
