  1. Think you might be all right with spending the extra dollars and getting what you pay for. So expensive for something some small!!!! Thanks for feedback. Remember too that smaller dogs *generally* live longer than large dogs so really when you buy a small dog your money gets you better value (just another way to look at it).
  2. I have just come home from netball so now I will write and email off 2 netball reports to the paper, then I will get out my bike and take Froggy for a run to the shop and back to get the papers, read the papers then take Stimpy and Chevy for a walk. Later on they will all go for a walk together to the park. It's a beautiful sunny day here and I think it has reached 10 degrees so this is a scorcher compared to the temps lately!!
  3. Hmmm, very possibly, maybe she might know someone who can help you out still.
  4. Penny IS the most spectacular looking dally
  5. Maybe try Annie's Labrador Rescue Contact: Annie Phone: 0410 190 906 Address: QLD 4207
  6. So sorry to hear of your loss. How blessed you were to have Murphy for 14 years, run again like a puppy Murphy.
  7. I would be taking her into a dog free but full of lovely smells environment to do some training, I would have her on a long lead, have some super treats and not let her have the opportunity to ignore your request. Let her have time smelling but as soon as you want her to return to you call her, give her a second to start coming and if she does not respond pull her in. Don't let her learn that it is ok to ignore your command, don't let her have the opportunity to do so either, keep her on a long line until her recalls are back to the way you want them to be and if later on she starts to not return again, put her straight back onto the long lead.
  8. Out of interest how many recognised breeds does the ANKC have?
  9. Partial Quote This is exactly the way I feel. Nothing to me is more important than a 100% recall, it is the one thing that could save your dog's life. EFS
  10. Have to say I kind of agree. Expecting a deluge of tradesmen at the shelter adopting up all the 'big' dogs! lol It also crossed my mind with regard to public liability insurance when I read this article. How does that go? Eg Someone using a dog to 'guard' tools on a ute. Said dog bites/injures a passer by who gets too close to ute. Question 1. Does the dog have to be registered as a guard dog? Fairly sure on the Gold Coast any dog kept as a guard dog on a property has to be registered as such, has to display a warning on the property etc. Question 2. Is the owner of dog and ute liable? Just something that popped into my head and was curious I was wondering about this too & will your insurance go up due to you having a 'guard dog' on board.
  11. I bought some a few years back off ebay for the dogs to wear at night while we were walking to look at Christmas lights, everyone loved them. They would be good for night running too.
  12. I told my BF that his dog has to start going to work with him again just so that we can claim on him He has a truck now for work so there's way more room for him than there use to be on the back of the ute.
  13. NNNNOOOO, I have 2 dogs who would HATE me if I did that to them - coats or no coats - , and I thought staffies were meant to like water.
  14. Sometime I take my dogs to work with me but they don't enjoy it quite as much anymore since we moved into our new facility as I won't let them play on the equipment (gymnastics) anymore as it is so perfect being brand new. At the old building (not in work time) I use to make agility courses for the with the old equipment. During class time the kids get way too sidetracked with the dogs in the gym. So my guys will stay home today.
  15. Froggy has soft toys in her dog pen for her to play with, these get changed when destroyed. Chevy has a few basket balls in the yard to play with and Stimpy does not play with toys. Their 'good' toys come out for training, eg anything squeaky. No set rotation they love whatever I allow them to use at the time.
  16. I have done it for friends but they looked at it as I was house sitting (as they lived in a pretty flash house then) and I had to feed the cats and dog as part of the house sitting. I was paid to live in their house (even when they would go away for months on end) but that doesn't seem to be the done thing anymore. I was listening to a chat show on the radio a few months back and - especially for anything over a week - it seems to be done more as a 'you look after my pets, I will give you a roof over your head' sort of deal. I wouldn't like to go stay in a strangers house, but thats just me, and I wouldn't like someone I didn't know looking after my pets. You will get jobs though, there are plenty of people out there after that sort of thing.
  17. I have a heart dog but I will reply anyway ;) just because I love talking about him. My heart dog was my rotty ICE, I got him when I was 16 and had him til I was 29, he was there for me through the tough teenage times. Because of him I will never own another rotty, I worry that none could ever live up to what he was and it would be unfair of me to expect that. I love my current dogs to bits but it is a different bond I have with them, my life has chanced and what I expect from a dog has changed. I love the working type bond that I have with my dogs now that I do agility with.
  18. Unfortunately that is the going price :D but can vary anywhere between $1500 - $4500. Dependant on age you could get a mature dog for btwn $1500 - $2500 where as puppies generally go for $3500 - $4500 & dependant on the breeder that might not include papers. Tell your friend to save save save & research as much as possible. Patiences is definately the key, something I know nothing about She wouldn't wait and went for the cheaper, quicker option of an Aussie Bulldog
  19. We have 3 dogs, my bf and I both work full time but I work split shifts, so pretty much the only time they are alone is between 8.30am and 12.15 as I then come home have lunch and don't head back to work til 3, which is when my bf finishes work.
  20. Have a search and there are some good threads on this (I know my dog had it a few weeks back). I didn't go to the vets as the advice was that unless they get an infection in their throat from coughing there is no need for antibiotics. My girl had it quite bad, I just gave her regular honey (although Active Manuka Honey is recommended) in water to soothe her throat. She got over in a week.
  21. When walking all 3 it's Frog and Chevy (the big 2) on my left and Stimpy the little one on my right, they walk in heel when I have all 3 on my own, then when we get to "possum park" they are allowed to sniff around the ground and trees to the ends of their leads, then when we leave the park it's straight back to heel as I just feel I have control over them that way. If I am walking one big and one little they can walk anywhere as long as they aren't pulling and they generally stay on the side that is "their" side.
  22. If knock out games are played I would not get them to stand on the sideline and watch I would encourage them to move to a certain area where they can still continue with the skills/game but not be in the "judged" group. One game I enjoy is "Simon Says", the dog is in a stay - whatever position the instructor chooses then the instructions are primarily for the handler eg, somon says stand on one foot, simon says skip around your dog etc, sometimes throw in a non simon says instruction. So there are 2 ways that you may need to move to the no longer judged area and that is either by you not following what "Simon Says" or by your dog breaking it's stay. I really like this as it is fun for the handler, challenging for the dog and it makes the handler not get into a habit of perhaps assisting the do with the stay by repeatedly asking them to stay or by giving them signals.
  23. Go Sway You DOL detective ;)
  24. Gorgeous, I love the first tubby little boy.
