Help With Skin Condition In Rescued Bully Pup
Clyde replied to BomaBec's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The Aloveen will be soothing (or Episooth). I wouldn't use the Malaseb more than three times a week or you will really dry his skin out. Pyohex is more for infection or mange. The vet will probably need to do a skin scraping. I wouldn't be lathering the dog in anything until you know what it is, except for a soothing bath. Hold off on all the lotions and potions until you know what you are dealing with. I would also hold off on the Frontline spray unless you have a flea issue at home. I'm not sure about the info you have been provided about heartworm. If a dog is at an age where heartworm can be an issue then a blood test is absolutely necessary before applying heartworm prevention and/or giving the Pro heart. So I'm not sure why your vet recommends to give it at second booster Heartworm needs to actually be treated rather than giving Proheart. Regardless, booster and Pro heart injections are usually given at seperate intervals in case there is a reaction the source can be isolated. Plus there is a concern of one compromising the other. -
High up what?

Which Dog Food Brand Is Better
Clyde replied to animallover12's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Animal Lover12, if you can't afford the super premium foods then don't buy them! Your dogs will do just fine on an average food. I've raised pups on Supercoat with fresh meat and bones and they were healthy dogs with no issues (except big, red poos ) although I do now feed the more premium dog food brands. There's no point spending half your pension on the dogs dinner - then you won't have the $ if they get hurt and need vet attention. There is nothing wrong with a more average dry food if your dog is doing well on it. If your dogs don't have skin issues try them on Purina/Optimum or similar and give them plenty of yummy bones and your left over vegies, they won't fall apart. You can research diet until the cows come home, everyone has a different opinion and everyones dogs react differently to dry food brands. eta: My Saint Bernard was mainly fed IAMS and she lived to a ripe old age, Royal Canin made her fart too much and after playing around with foods IAMS came out a winner for her. If you're going to save yourself $30 odd dollars a bag by feeding IAMS then go for it : ) -
Mastdoch Mastiffs have a pool, the details are on their web site.

You could just get another lounge Rotties don't really deserve to be cast to the ground :D (but in seriousness - in this instance they should be.) Do you think he sees you as the leader? Over the next twelve months he will be trying to flex his muscle - don't you just love teenagers :D
-
and therein lies the problem :D A spoilt 50 kilos plus Rottweiler (obviously not that size yet) will more than likely have issues with leadership. IMO your first step in putting an end to this would be booting the dogs on to the floor. They should have their own beds. In saying that, I do occasionally let my dogs on the lounge but it's at my say so and I wouldn't do it if I was having training issues with them. It's fab that they're a part of your family, but unfortunately dogs don't think like us so they do, for the most part, need to be treated like canines.

A neighbouring groomer charges about that (I charge $45), they also charge $55 for a Lab. I suppose whatever people pay, lol. Personally I think some charges are getting a bit 'out there'. I would say your Border quote is one of those.
-
$60 is spot on...... possibly even $5 cheaper than other inner city slaons. It will get to around $-50 perhaps if you head to the outksirts of Sydney, but the difference will go in petrol, time and tolls. It's a big job and requires skill. You *might* be lucky to find somewhere that charges $55 nearby.

I've done it with a senior Saint Bernard and an adult Bulldog, both with no problems. Although they were both at the beginning of a season.

Tess, smoking and feeding Pro Plan aren't even comparable. Surely there's a better argument than that. :D

Does it mean she's going to marry and come in to money?

I shoved my face in Mildred's mouth this afternoon as her breath smelt stale and strong. On the roof of her mouth she had two clusters of spiky hairs (black and white) sticking out from her palate :D How weird. Does anyone elses dogs have a hairy upper mouth?

Another vote for the Malaseb dilute

Perhaps you should push the wheelie bin along with you when you go out next? I can't stand walking along with a bag of warm poo in my hand.

My kitties are fed BARF patties too but I also give them kibble (same with the dogs). The cats love their patties, they practically inhale it. To be honest I see no difference in them but I can't see their insides, lol, and feel that it will help them in the long run. It's good stuff hey I heard they're changing the packaging - hooray, no more banging the rolls on my kitchen bench to seperate the buggers. They're selling them in trays.

Hi Kylie, I think Orijen is on its way to us and Innova is available here but dont know about the others. I wouldn't worry too much about what online reviews say as it's only someones personal opinion so it should be taken with a grain of salt (so to speak ;) ) A good food is one that your dog thrives on, as you probably know alot of DOL'ers swear by totally different foods for their dogs I know dogs which do really well on Science Diet but I wouldn't touch it, I also know dogs who lived healthy lives in to geriatric years and lived on PAL

There is NO WAY I would be walking a dog after giving it any form of poo looseners Picking that up in a bag is going to be messy and nasty. ;) Best let them do it in the far corner of the yard and wait a day for it to harden a little.

Chemist shut now. Coles is open though They'd sell some sort of Laxatives. Plus what everyone else has suggested, plus bran or wheatgerm etc.

Some laxative liquid from the chemist. Works a treat!!! eta: I've used Actilax for Mildred with success.

Elongated Palette?lola's Having Trouble Breathing
Clyde replied to he'smyhero's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
She couldn't exercise full stop, lol. She would run two metres and I felt like I needed to give her an oxygen mask. I only took her on in January but knew within 24 hours that her pallette was an issue. Hers was pretty severe though (the biggest the 'Bulldog vet' had ever seen). -
Elongated Palette?lola's Having Trouble Breathing
Clyde replied to he'smyhero's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Mildred needed her palette done. I don't know alot about it though and would guess? that a palette problem wouldn't suddenly be a problem. I would guess that an elongated palette would be obvious from a pup. Unless the dog in question has upped their exercise or excitement regime If I were you I would find a vet familiar with the Aussies or British, as what would seem abnormal to some vets is quite the norm for those more familiar with the breed. Mildreds palette was cauterised when she was desexed, so not sure of exact cost, sorry. She didn't do the reverse sneezing thing - just sounded as though she had a grunty form of emphysema 24/7. -
I found elevating the food bowl or hand feeding helps.

I tried it on my guys and didn't like Victoria and Georges poos, but George also got hot spots, gained weight and coat went dull. Switched to Royal Canin and he coat and poos looked fab again.
