Clyde is that an alcohol based one?? It's just Malaseb shampoo mixed with 30 parts water to one part Malaseb. It's for yeast infections but fab as just a regular cleaner as it dries out the ear, plus no alcohol so no stinging

Desexing, Do Vets Ever Give Pain Killers After?

Same, I missed that part in the OP. Pretty harsh she was sent home same day :D Offer her small amounts of water at a time if she's interested. And a cuddle from me! -
Desexing, Do Vets Ever Give Pain Killers After?
Clyde replied to SarasMum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes definitely! All my pets have been sent home with sufficient pain relief. Poor dog, a spey is incredibly invasive she will be feeling a heck of a lot of pain without some form of relief. Insist to your vet that you want some, and it should also be included on the spey price. -
I use the Malaseb dilute

I ordered the Beacon from Groomers a week or so ago, just waiting for it to arrive!

Hell yes! I wouldn't touch it - it's just not worth the risk and the owner should be cornered in to treating it. A regular Lab of mine caught ringworm from his previous groomer (so to speak) which is why the owner switched. She also told quite a few people about 'her experience' with said groomer. Word of mouth can make or break you, so I wouldnt knowingly groom an infectious dog.

Hey Colin! Is this for your existing clients too, or just new ones? I need to send you some more stuff next week........... Cheers Dru

Another vote for Nicestman. Super, speedy service Cheers Dru.

I recently got a dog with severe hookworm burden. My vet said the All Wormer had to be a quality brand to ensure it's efficacy. So I would probably stick to Drontal or Propantel (sp?) seems quite well known too. I was having to do 4 pets every fortnight for ages costs a bomb!

Heya Pesh, long time no see I use Dermcare Natural (about $90) Aloveen (expensive!) and Petway (the pink one) which is about $60. I'm phasing out the Dermcare Natural in favour of the Petway due to finances and commercially, I feel it is a better product. For whiteners I use Champion Tails. Just tried Photo Finish, smells fab but that's about it. Have also just finished a bottle of Australian Dressage Satin Black Colour intensifying shampoo - amazing!!! Soap free too. What's the Groomers Friend like? Smell and whitening? I have recently tried another brand which was bloody awful so before(if) you switch make sure it's not the same 99% of dogs get Aloveen Leave In Conditioner applied aswell as deoderised. I love trying new product so will be watching this too

She'll be more inclined to use the leg if you walk her verrrry slowly - slow motion usually eases them in to gentle weight bearing and take it from there. She might have a trigger point issue too after the leg not being used for so long.

I've tried three different shampoos (Herbal, pink and a purple one). All good cleansers but the pink one I found to be a great whitener. I still use Aloveen on sensitive skin and the Aloveen conditioner too. I dont like the smell of the shampoo (especially the pink) but the clients like it as it's strong. Same with the deoderisors. They're not my cup of tea but the clients LOVE them and the smell really does last - I hardly need any and clients say the dogs are still smelling nice a week later. I probably like the blue deoderisor best. I was using Dermcare Natural, but it isn't very good at getting grubby marks out and the dogs smell doggy quite quickly after too. However it was kinder on my skin.... Petway gives me a slight irritation between the fingers, but nothing compared to what some products have done. So thanks for the heads up on them, they have great, speedy service too

I got mine as a freebie sample. I started using their product for some dogs a while back from a referral on here (it may have been you 4 Paws) as I needed to use a more economical product than Dermcare. I've used FIDOS before and thought it was a terrible product..... it also gave me eczema.

Thanks guys. Will sus it all out. Looks like I have some reading too, so will probably come back with more questions. Cheers ;)

I've got some here, untouched. I don't see the point of it. Or how it can be called 'shampoo' The dirt will stay on the dog. Let me know what you think.

The Pyohex can be quite drying, and using it long term can dry out the coat and can cause itchiness. I would grab some ALOVEEN LEAVE IN CONDITIONER and rub that through both dogs after bathing, made by the same company. It's soothing and moisturising, plus will help stop the itchies.

A while back somebody post a linky in here somewhere of a diet which helped their dog. I think they had LGD's? Mildred needs it :D I've done a bit of a search but can't find the same link. Cheers.

:D I've had that quite a few times with clients dogs- disssssssgusting! its rank and this has been the only dog I have actually seen it sliding in and out and I dont want any more so I dont envy you Try having the cat sitting on a book that you are reading and well leaving one behind!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is REVOLTING!!!!! *shakes head* I think I would have been physically ill. But, that does remind me of a time a few weeks ago when I ate a maggot out of a Boost bar. I'm wondering if horses seem to have some connection with tapeworm? Most of the dogs I've had in are on acreage (horse studs) or perhaps there's just more wildlife down the road.

If it's giving him sloppy poo I'd be changing the kibble completely, especially seeing as it's been going on for so long. It's obviously not agreeing with him :D

Palane, I think some of the cheaper worming meds aren't as effective aswell. If you suspect your guys have worms, worm again in a fortnight.
-
Sas, you might already be doing this, but I would only Malaseb the affected area - rather than the whole dog. Out of curiosity, does he get ear infections?
-
Thanks guys for your replies. Sorry I forget sarcasm doesn't come over clearly in print - I wasn't being sarcastic

It's in Hunters Hill

Sas, when you use the Pyohex are you leaving it on the affected area for ten minutes? Also Pyohex do a Leave In Lotion now which some clients are finding beneficial. If it's any consolation I have quite a few clients atm whose skin has gone to hell with hot spot type irritations - so obviously seasonal as owners say it happens each year. Your vet sounds on the ball, but there is a vet near you also who has a special interest in derm. related issues. Dr Rosalie Mathews at Gladesville Vet (9817 5758). Perhaps she can give you some further insight?
