  1. No they don't take weeks to kick in. The Capstar will only kill fleas on the pet at the time it was given the tablet. A flea could still jump on that night and have a bite which would be the end for FAD sufferers.
  2. No, it's very common. Personally I cant stand the collars due to the way they smell, but if they're necessary.... SOunds awful though doesn't it, with all the pesticides but it's better than a sick or dead dog. Maybe just put a collar on him during the worst period, although there doesnt seem to be one anymore. I plucked 17 ticks off an Aussie Shep last week and several others from other dogs over the past fortnight too.
  3. Not really. The vet says he sees about 4 cases a month. Is that a heavy tick area? No it doesn't sound as though it is, but if there are ticks, there are ticks. Maybe owners are more diligent with prevention in your area than other areas. 90% of my clients double up with a collar and a top spot.
  4. *nods* Rosalie Mathews is a "Bulldog vet" at Gladesville Vet and does a lot of palettes, great results without the specialist costs.
  5. Aww, he is very cute. Nothing like a sleeping Staff puppy You could always try him on some chicken necks aswell, just make sure you supervise him eating them. :p
  6. Don't over do it though. I wouldn't do it more than every three weeks at least. You could always get a furminator and alternate which is what I do. I overdid my Rotti with the coat king and his coat went sharp and spikey.
  7. My little Shih X used to get bad staining until I played around with his diet. Took him off kibble and fed him a raw diet fresh fruit/veg/meat. His eyes completely cleared up, the difference was astounding. There is a good chance that it is the kibble.
  8. No way would I bleach. Perhaps look at why he is staining too, any preservatives in his/her diet? Some people swear by regular wiping with boracic powder. Otherwise you could try a good furminate in that area to at least thin it so it's not as noticeable.
  9. Just popped in to catch up on the last few pages, glad all is going well xo to Olly.
  10. You could try Morning Fresh/Dawn dish detergent if it is sap, but obviously be careful around the eyes.
  11. Have you thought about a Groomers arm? Groomers sells them, not too dear either.
  12. George gets frequent time outs. He starts off nicely but then gets too rough. Although we just dont go to dog parks anymore, and he is fine with most clients dogs here so long as they don't move too quickly I have absolute verbal control here though.
  13. Steve will know your answers ;) If you call out to them in your topic header I'm sure they'll pop in.
  14. Be sure to let me know how it goes (seeing as this is our own little private thread ;) ).
  15. Off to the vets for you Lofty!
  16. She turned up as soon as I hit reply. She thought it was a 10.15am booking which I often do, and her little one was home sick from school. If a booking was made more than 8 weeks prior I do send a text message, and also to a couple of my 4wk'ers who have a terrible memory they get reminded too. I dont really want to flick the beautician as she is a direct neighbour but it blows my mind how inconsiderate she is. I have a couple of regular late payers which drives me mad but I know if I flick them that the dog will simply not be done and I get attached to my regulars so keep doing them for the dogs sake. They are dogs who live near each other so I drop them both home as owners aren't there. This summer I'm going to be ruthless (maybe  ) as I can afford to flick clients, it's just hard where I live - everyone knows everyone......
  17. Sitting here waiting for a $95 job to show, expected at 10am. It's got me thinking that I'm usually pretty blase about people turning up, one of my worst regular offenders is a beautician who I know charges a no show fee, yet always manages to stand me up. So it got me thinking if groomers did this? I think I'd like to, but couldn't bring myself to do it.
  18. I'm sure you can fix it with meds I don't know why this client hasn't bothered. Probably getting ahead of ourselves, lol. Maybe he needed to poo and dreamt that he did so a little bit escaped
  19. I groom a Cocker who does that, although he is very old and doddery. But bits of poo will just come out unexpectedly and he walks along wee'ing too.
  20. Sounds like the beginning of incontinence? Perhaps a vet check is in order. Hope he's okay.
  21. I agree T Time. My Dane X went down super quickly and passed away despite three days care at the vet and a machine breathing for him, it took us 24 hours to actually find the tick it wasn't big at all. But my Shihtzu X who also died last year from a tick related death, had a tick on him engorged, for days I suspect, before he showed symptoms. Perhaps the Greys due to no body fat?
  22. Usually days (3-7). Depending on the size of the attached tick and the number of ticks. Pleased to hear your girl is fine.
