  1. So should the lives of countless others be held less important than the life of one? It's a tricky dilemma. I love a masculine looking dog, but due to my breeds of choice I would probably desex early (6months) in the hope if avoiding undesirable traits. Plus I cant stand the stench of entire dog wee! Although I have read with breeds such as Mastiffs and Neapolitan Mastiffs that it's best to wait until 18 months in order for their chests to develop to help support the weight. I'm in a bit of a quandry with Esme (Stafford pup) at the moment. I definitely want her desexed, but was wanting her head and chest to thicken out a little more before doing so but she's approaching 6 months. I don't think I could cope going through a season and keep asking myself if the stress and mess of it is worth a better looking dog
  2. I clip anything. I explain things first and then leave it to the owners to make the decision. Last week I had a call from a woman who wanted her two Koolies clipped, I gave her the spiel and she opted not to in the end. I clip alot of Poms and a couple of Sibes. We're in a severe tick area here and most owners take no chances after their first close call. I also have alot of elderly arthritic owners from the local nursing village that can no longer keep up with tick checks/grooming. I clip loads of Borders, Goldens and a few Labs even at this time of year. The ticks have certainly started up! I charge through the nose as I prefer not do do these sort of clips, I prefer smaller breed styles but people still come back. Every other groomer in my locale will also clip. Personally, I don't give a hoot about true coat type when so many clients dogs die from ticks From memory more than 12 of my clients doggies died last year from ticks. Lets hope it's a better one this year.
  3. I'm having an invisible fence installed and am wondering how on earth I can keep a collar on the Rotti without the Stafford eating it She loves Bitter Bite and Chilli. Any other ideas? I need to be able to leave dogs unsupervised with collars on. Esme loves to chew Georges neck 24/7, a collar tends to give her better grip.
  4. Well then I'm dobbing that it was actually 4Paws who told me that (sorry 4Paws)
  5. Anybody decent will be booked out for weeks. The other day I had to chase up my pool man who hadnt come when he was supposed to, he said "it's as though everyone has looked out their window and suddenly remembered they've got a pool" It's a bit like that with dogs come spring time and groomers.
  6. A DOLer once told me the rule of thumb, from memory it was half what you paid and then 10% less than that again... or 10% more - cant remember exactly now
  7. My British Bulldog would choke on necks, it was frightening so I stopped giving them to her. My other two dogs eat them with no problems.

    Ah Terrorbull, I'm so sorry
  9. Saw this the other day and thought of you K9kutz. I didn't check out the measurements but thought aesthetically, they look nice. Plus the tops can be used for product displys, or just storing stuff. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A:IT&ih=025
  10. I was thinking the same thing! Couldn't agree more. I've heard it all, and my tongue is now calloused now life. At the end of the day my only concern is that someone is actually looking after their dog.
  11. I wont feed one hour either side of exercise. Aside from the bloat I know I wouldnt like to eat close to excercise, it just gives time for your food to settle.
  12. Brad the PIAA web site often has groomers wanting work advertised.
  13. I use both and was informed that it's fine. No two ingredients appear to be the same but if in doubt give your vet a call. I've been using both for a few months now.
  14. Use the horse shampoo Champion Tails. Brilliant stuff and I find it a better whitener and colour intensifier for colours, than any other product I've tried (it's also the cheapest).
  15. Hunters Hill is very bushy, always been lots of ticks there.
  16. That's all very well but if you get one that gets car sick, that's it. All the driving in the world isn't going to change whether your dog gets sick or not. I've had a Rotti who threw up everywhere in the car even though he was driven around from a young age. Just lighten up, relax and enjoy your dog. Accept that everything cannot be rigidly planned and go in to it with an open mind.
  17. Mobile are usually dearer than salons to cover extra costs. If it's for your Golden I would have him done in a salon where he can be brushed out properly. Mobile tend to just blast dry. I only say that has he will be needing to get rid of his winter coat.
  18. I would have thought that too PF. 24-48 at most. I have a packet here but a purring Trevor on my lap, so will check when I'm up next.
  19. They are often the worst areas. Please correct your vet before they pass incorrect info to someone else. Have a great trip
  20. Of course you can toilet train without a crate, the crate just makes it easier. Crating isn't only for toilet training though. It's great for getting the dog used to being crated and also having time out. There will also be periods when you want time out from the dog. Crates are a god send. One of my dogs is only 16 weeks now and she was trained during the night in only one week and I credit this to her crate (and of course me). job well done ... toilet trained in a week! *high five* Nope, still not toilet trained, just trained not to pee in her crate. She'll still go in the house if the door is closed.

  22. Thanks Poodle3081 . Blades are fine (both tension and oil). I'm a bit frustrated as, if I was happy to clip on low speed I wouldn't have 'upgraded' my clippers. They should be able to clip for longer than they are without getting too hot - Well I believe they should anyway.
