  1. I'm regretting the switch. I've had the same Osters for years with never a problem. I might sniff out a second hand Andis and see what I think. Thanks.
  2. No sadly I didn't. It came down to pink, or regular with a free 5 blade. Being the bargain hunter that I am I opted for regular. And bugger ;) I should have gone with Andis then! Looks like I'll have to fork out more $ and get them
  3. I recently retired my trusty Osters and bought the Wahl KM-2s. Even though the Wahl are nicer to hold, I am finding that the blades are heating up so quickly it's ridiculous (on both pairs). I would have thought Osters would have gotten hotter, faster and was looking forward to the Wahls. Anyone else have this problem?
  4. Yup, the vets will shave him, or at least just shave the knotted bits. Could you get the owners permission to have the dog professionally groomed? Perhaps take a little off the length too? snap PF
  5. Many people do (I have too for many years). Bayer warn of toxicity but last I heard Dermcare said it was fine. Although my previous method was usually Advantix, then a fortnight later Permoxin, then Advantix again after another fortnight. (So Advantix was only monthly as a cost cutting method and Permoxin covered the other fortnight of ticks). Worked well for me. Permoxin has been trialled to show it lasts 13 days, however only registered for 7.
  6. There used to be a place called Marlene's or something in Putney which had a good reptutation.
  7. I have no clue, but they are definitely available as that's what we had when I was nursing.
  8. I told one of my irregular clients today that if I ever saw her dog in that condition again I would report her for neglect/cruelty. Spineless woman didn't have the balls to collect the dog when I was finished and instead sent a friend. Doubt she'll be back. I just hope the dog gets done elsewhere. I bit my tongue last time I did her, and that was one year ago..... It's a very close community here but I doubt it will affect me as she would (should) be too embarassed to say anything. The most divine little dog too. eta: and to further piss me off she said the dog was done by her 'groomer friend' two months ago. Yehhh right! She hadn't been touched since I did her last. I took photos too.
  9. I recently bought four of these and found that they connect so I can stack them. http://www.soldsmart.com.au/l3.aspx?goods=PC0001
  10. I really like the concept of that first pic but think it could be quite stressful for some dogs to be open like that? I think it would appeal to owners more though. I would also steer clear of timber as it tends to absorb smells and then lacquer (and paint) bubbles/lifts etc from moisture. My preference is for something which can be hosed and bleached so unfortunately that leaves me with boring old crates. My work area is off an large courtyard so depending on the dogs they relax in the sun/shade while they wait, but if the dogs arent compatible they are crated. That being said I rarely double up and try to have owners drop off just as I am finishing the last one.
  11. They're about 6-8 times the size, considering the width and length. GSD- Have you tried hand feeding? My Rotti was inhaling them but I found hand feeding taught him to chew them better (mostly ). efs
  12. I don't see anything wrong with it providing it is done sensibly and the right product is used. I have previously dyed one of my own dogs. As a groomer I wouldn't offer it to clients as I simply couldn't be bothered and I don't have the market here for that.
  13. You're the expert you tell us?
  14. As far as I know Challenge Dog Supplies in Brookvale are the only Oz suppliers. I don't know if they've got any left from their last shipment though as I had to wait some time. Best to give them a call and put your name down.
  15. Same! I also use this on clients dogs if they need a clean and they've been really happy with the long term results.
  16. I've had quite a few of them. The last were evil twins, and when I commented on their behaviour to the owner she sheepishly admitted she does the rounds of all the salons in the area. I've accepted them as permanent clients and they have improved somewhat, quick little buggers though. Thankfully I now have a Groomers Friend which helps for the fast ones The irony is the terrible snappers are usually the most snuggly off the table.

    I'm so sorry, RIP Penny
  19. Yes, that is a good one! I have done that before
  20. Tatelina, if he's a genuine rescue and already served 2 weeks quarantine I'll groom him for free, just shoot me a PM
  21. Maybe not. I've had dogs with quirky habits while the other dogs seem to stare and shake their heads I've also got a Staff baby and do admit to feeling guilty when I take her out and not my 5yr old Rotti. I usually give him a lovely bone or a walk before and they soon 'forgive' you. His reaction is the same whether we've been out all day or just collecting the mail out front Definitely take pup out without adult. I had noticed my pup was always looking at my Rotti for guidance when we were out and would follow him rather than come to me when called so I cut back together time and she's improved vastly.
  22. Depends on your experience. Most people start as dog washers and then work their way up.
  23. I think it just depends. I only had about two weeks at most of having to get up. Esme slept right through at a pretty young age, and our idea of sleeping through is around 8am. She's not once gone in her crate. But I have always filled her crate with bedding rather than inviting her to wee in there offering paper etc.
