You can adjust the zap (well on mine you can). I have the Hidden Fence system installed (containment system using a collar and underground wires- they have a website)), however it's used in conjunction with good fencing. I also put in a lot of training with the dog in question. My brother installed an Innotek - more determined dog, storm phobic and no training with the system and it has been useless for their dog. It's not a brand thing in this situation as Ive used the Innotek one with good results before. My dog needed it on the highest zap. He only got zapped a couple of times before he worked it all out plus they give the dog plenty of warning with warning beeps before the actual zap. You will have to have one entrance/exit which is not electrified that your dog can go through with you. Depending on the dog but once they learn what is a no go zone you wont get them through it (and nor do you want them to either IMO). Just have the one gate that is a clear access for them but obviously the gate must contain the dog by itself. If you allow the dog back and forth IMO at various electrified points, it will only encourage them to challenge the system and/or confuse them about their boundary.

Thanks -
Very odd, I cant find it

Thanks Nic. The snake is literally about 4 metres from the house, so way too close to comfort. I also have to rush out when clients arrive and redirect them to my work area so that their dogs are not at risk. I am worried a clients dog will stick its nose in the garden bed like they always do and be bitten for his troubles. We have pretty much been living in lock down here for the past week. Wires have said the snake needs to be out for them to catch it. They've said they cant do anything once he goes down his hole under his boulder. I'd quite happily enlist someone to blow his brains out, illegal or not, but I wouldn't put that on someone elses shoulders and don't want a gun. I have no qualms doing what I feel is necessary to protect what is mine. I didnt realise that about the Agapanthas. All my elderly ' clients last week have said 'oh, that's why they're called Snake Hiders'. I am going to rip the whole lot out but it's a big job and requires a man and a bobcat machine thingo and largish $$'s. I went and bought my daughter 4 pairs of gumboots last week and have a pair stationed at each exit. Do you think she can remember to put them on going outside? *mad eye rolly man*

Try and place water away from there. lt might be thirsty?/ l wouldnt be happy with him taken shelter there. There is water everywhere here, I am in a high rain fall area. He has water points all around him, dog water, duck pond, chook water, the dam etc. The dam he can get to easily, he is living right near my water tank though (which he cannot access water from). Im not happy with him being there, but I dont really have many options. I see him every day sunning himself but am just thankful that he is non confrontational and slips off to his hidey hole. He isn't alarmed by me and will happily sun himself with me pottering around but the second someone else tiptoes in he is off like a shot. I think he has been there for some time and is used to me. If I could get him on flat ground I would throw a bucket or something over him but he likes to hang out in bush (lavender and agapanthas) so it's impossible to trap him in that way. I am just thankful that the Copperhead shot off in the other direction. The on Saturday, I had a hawk come and eat two of my beautiful chooks. So yeah, it's been country living at it's finest lately.

I posted about a Copperhead and RBB snake last week. The RB is still here. It's taken up residence only metres from the house but no one can help me as it goes down a hole and then cant be caught! Ive tried all the snake catchers in the area and they all say the same thing. So it looks like Im stuck with it

Yep, I'd be sending the surgeon the bill.Really sorry you're going through this ,I'm sure it's the last thing you and your boy need right now
-
So who paid for today? Surely the surgeon should be responsible?

I cant remember where I got mine, have had it for about 20yrs. Ive done a quick search though and Sway sells them here: http://www.whelpingsupplies.com.au/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=88 (only $8, free postage!) I don't put anything on before or after. Dont make it stressful for the dog, just scale a couple of teeth a night until they get used to it. If you have cats it is fab for them too.
-
I have a scaler and do it myself. It is easy once you get the hang of it and get the dog used to it.

I dont know if Id put him on probiotics while he's on antibiotics. Hopefully someone here will know more than me but something about them not going well together, you wait til the antibiotics are finished before using probiotics. I saw your poor dogs photo last night (was on ipad, frustrating to reply) and have to admit before opening the photo I assumed it wasn't going to be bad at all as scrotum rash is pretty easy to do if not careful, but wow, your poor dog It's like whoever shaved him has taken no extra care at all around his sensitive bits. His case is bad, poor boy. I hope things improve for him soon.

What Tralee has done, but is not understanding for himself, is that Tralee and the council have come to a mutually agreeable compromise on the containment of his dogs. Without this compromise the outcome could have been entirely different. I agree with Melz, this has nothing to do with BSL.

I'm so sorry about your gorgeous Charlie . I have always had a soft spot for him

I tried Wellness for my guys a while back. They didn't really like it and they didn't do well on it at all.
-
Fair call. I still don't like it though. Being rural and breeding chickens, foxes make my life a living hell. The only fox I like to see is a dead one. I know I'll be flamed but whenever I see a road kill fox I do a silent cheer. They are just such a pest around here. They pretty much rule my day to day routine.
-
There isn't - these people are creating something totally unnecessary. Foxes are a pest and if caught should be humanely euthanased.
-
I tried it and didnt like it. I mixed it over slowly and coats went dull and way too much gas! Even after two bags fed to just two smaller dog. The gas didnt settle so I went back to Holistic Select/BARF patties, like I always do

I agree with the others, that you dont need to play fight with your pup. I don't ever encourage it with puppies (or adults). However, I do think that the fact she she will tell the adult dogs that she's had enough that she could be quite a confident and assertive little girl. Do you mean she tells them off? My friends husband once lightly slapped my Staffords cheeks to get her to bite side to side after his hands. I've noticed it's something a lot of blokes do to rev them up to play bite. Each time I had to explain that especially with kids around, I can't let that behaviour be encouraged.

Wow. I'd be surprised if he doesn't find a home within a week with that photo and temp description! It sounds as though someone would be very lucky to have him in their lives -

Black brindles. -
Sorry, I wasn't clear in my last post. I left my dog in the car as in, I forgot she was in there! I came inside from the school run, the phone rang and then I had a coffee. I just about died when I realised what I'd done. She was content and curled up asleep. It still shook me to the core though. I dont take my dogs in the car when it's hot at all. I dont like to leave them for even two minutes to run in to a shop as you never know if you get held up somewhere etc. I feel really sorry for this bloke. It is irresponsible for sure, but still just a horrible accident, IYKWIM.
