  1. I'm curious which breed requires clipping at only ten weeks?? Just treat the pup for fleas so you can rule it out. If the packaging says it's fine, then it's fine ;) Personally, I prefer Advantage for flea control.
  2. Daisy, exciting news about the pup! Personally, I don't think you can ever be too paranoid. I would also hunt around for a vet who gives Nobivac vaccines (I would double check this), apparently the Nobivac are fine pretty much straight away rather than the 2 week wait. So puppy can come home earlier. Like I said I would double check, but it is what I was told by someone in the veterinary industry.
  3. I am so sorry. She had a very gentle look about her that was clear even through internet pictures. She's pain free and in peace now.
  4. Giraffez, I'm not sure where you are but I am in Terrey Hills. If you like I can let you know when I next have a Schnauzer in and you can come and watch if that helps you at all. Just PM me.
  5. J - make sure you give it a good disinfect before putting your dogs in there. They are *supposed* to, but I'm sure a lot don't bother. ;)
  6. They're wrong. Tick season can be all year round, however the worst months are usually October to February. The only time I stop with the Advantix is winter. I don't stop the tick checks though.
  7. I use both Permoxin and Advantix. Both are toxic to cats if ingested/applied directly. I have two cats. Just be sure to keep the cat from grooming the dog within 24hrs of applying Advantix. Keep the Permoxin bottle away from the cats and keep the cats out of the room when rinsing/spraying. Permoxin binds instantly to the dog so is safe with cats in that sense. If you are concerned keep them seperate for 24 hrs. I dont seperate my cats and work using Permoxin all day from home with 2 cats, and no problems. Just be very careful if you choose Advantix to always triple check before applying anything to your cat. I didn't and once applied Advantix to my cat who almost died and is now very spethal
  8. Have her inside with you and let her sleep in your bed. Let the pup feel safe and secure, then later on you can move pup to where you want them to sleep as an older pup. I think it's awful to let a pup cry at that age. Poor little thing just wants some love and reassurance : )
  9. What sort of issues Erny? Is there a thread somewhere? I'm interested as Esme has a very sensitive tummy.
  10. Crate until tomorrow (or at least keep him still as possible and quiet). I wouldn't rush him off tonight. Hope he's okay tomorrow
  11. I agree. BARF doesn't suit every dog. Some of my dogs have BARF'ed and done really well. I currently have two dogs which it does not suit so I'm not BARF feeding any dogs at all the moment. Feed what he is doing well on. Then maybe later when the puppy has stablised a bit try slowly introducing new foods. Poor puppy probably feels like a bomb has hit its intestines.
  12. I chuck it. For the most part I do a clip off before I bathe and clip again then style. So, the majority of the time the clipped hair is dirty.
  13. Go hard on the Joint Guard. As soon as there is injury it lets arthritis set in. So basically any dog who has done their cruciate or got patella issues will more than likely get arthritis. Cute dog with an equally cute cast, love it!
  14. One of my Saints used to get a cracked nose until someone suggested I changed her feeding bowl. This worked! She must've had an allergic reaction to what the bowl was made from or perhaps the angle of the corners. No idea, but it worked. There is also a proper word for some types of cracked noses. If it looks kind of feathery there is a Saint person who had a similar problem but has gotten on top of it (some of of skin issue but hers was on the paws). I think it was BigDog Lover so might be worth a PM as she has pics for comparison.
  15. But he's a puppy. Puppies look to their owners for guidance and confidence. A 17 week old baby is not going to be a good guard dog. I think you're expecting too much from him and not realising how much he is actually going to become.
  16. I have the bungee chook. If anyone would like to buy it please PM me
  17. There's part of your answer. She's possibly got a touch of GSD in her too.
  18. Rysup many can clip but grooming a schnauzer to look like one is harder than many give credit, I agree. I've been grooming for a while now (about 9 yrs from memory) and I still find Schnauzers really difficult to do. I don't like doing them as I'm never satisified. It doesn't help that the person I trained under learned grooming overseas and was specifically trained in Schnauzers. People travelled from afar with theirs and they looked amazing. To do them beautifully takes a lot of skill. I think because the true art of grooming is being lost a lot of the newer owners of styled breeds don't have anything to compare to and think they are paying for a good result. They would be amazed at how wonderful and stylised their dogs could look if they sourced an 'old style' groomer. I even did a workshop on styling Schnauzers about 4 yrs in to my grooming and I felt the trainer did a very average job. A family member does their own dog though and it's perfectly fine. She looks clean and they save themselves bucket loads of money. She always looks a little hacked at and there is no real style to it but the owners don't mind (the dog doesn't either!).
  19. SearchJane, where do you get the camel from? I think I will try it with my Shihtzu.
  20. Kick the puppy outside! You'll only create more problems if he doesn't start getting used to time outside by himself. Let him dig, roll, explore, get fresh air and be a pup. You'll find he'll settle more when he's inside. Crates are a wondrous thing. Having just come out the other end with a Stafford pup I can safely say the crate was (and still is) a Godsend. However there is a happy medium. In saying that, when I boot my dogs outside in the sunshine they lean on the glass door, staring in and lovingly lick the door if I happen to glance their way
  21. Trust Gomez to do it in style! My dogs eat poo, yours eats soap
  22. If it's any consolation Persephone, I've woken up to 'dire rear' (love it!) splattered crate and living room walls the past two mornings from Esme. The stench went right through the house and Esme has been getting hydrobaths at six in the morning It seems like a tummy bug to me. Hoping Hamlet is better this morning.
  23. Well..... you can still have the dog When shall I deliver her?
