  1. Love some of these! I tend to use the happy training voice with kids at work too. And when I told me SIL that my daughter had to have her canine teeth removed she asked was I using the 'dog' name for the teeth. She must think that everything I think or do is dog... Oh hang on - she's not too far off the mark!
  2. That one with a roll looks like a hot dog
  3. Snuggle Safe hold their heat well :)
  4. I've had a bitch on breeders terms twice. The first was my lovely Dobermann. I paid no money up front for her. She went back to the breeder to be mated and didn't conceive. Before we tried again she developed Wobblers Lucky she had missed. The next was a Cavalier. I paid half the going price for her and bred her in my name with a pup to go back to the breeder. They decided they wanted the money instead of a pup so I sold the pup and gave them the money. I placed a girl on breeder's terms once and her patellas went dodgy at 12 months old so we never bred her. I didn't take any money for her upfront.
  5. I do know of a bitch who got in to the whelping box and killed the pups of another girl. I would not take a risk. My girls are kept well away from the others so that they don't have to feel at all stressed if they don't want the others around. Once the pups are up and about they get supervised visits :)
  6. Phoenix under the doona  They really are looking so much more relaxed!
  7. Small donation made :) Those poor dogs! Thank you for giving them comfort and warmth and good food in their bellies.
  8. I know but I wanted to be there and meet everyone and see all the Lappies!
  9. So sad I can't come so I hope there will be lots of photos and chat about the show afterwards!! I would have loved to meet everyone but it's Mum's 80th birthday, I (hopefully) will have pups due and my dogsitter (daughter) is having a baby. It's just not do-able
  10. <The WA Western Classic did that this year, asked for toys donations,c olouring books etc. The set up an activity area on the grass above the rings infront of the office adn it was a huge success, they asked that adults rotated to ensure children were safe etc> What a great idea. I just didn't show when my kids were young cause it was too much hassle
  11. Sorry no advice from me but I hope you can get to the bottom of his problems. Poor fella!
  12. Sounds like Ray did everything he could to help whilst he stayed with you!
  13. <Also had a Foxterrier that pulled my keyboard down and was jumping up and down on it, tearing the keys up.> Oh dear I know I shouldn't but I can't help it......
  14. I've never done anything special for Lacey - her knees just improved a bit as she developed. Another girl I had many years ago was diagnosed with a luxating patella by a vet I was working for. She'd never shown any symptoms. The vet insisted she needed surgery. I took her to my usual vet who said it wasn't too bad at all and she didn't think it needed an op. She is now 11 and is fine. She has a bit of arthritis but nothing too bad. Personally I wouldn't put a dog through the op if they only have a mild case. It is a big operation.
  15. A puppy can have good patellas at their puppy check and they can loosen as the pup grows. My Lacey was very sound as a pup but at 14 months old had dodgy knees The vet explained to me that as the pup grows and their angulation changes problems can arise. She never showed any symptoms. She is now 7 years old and never misses a beat. When she was last checked one knee was slightly lose but they other was good.
  16. Unless she is rather on the large size that is heavy for a Cavalier bitch. Jed's post was very good and there is lots of very good advice in here for you. I've been the breeder who sold a pup with luxating patellas. I asked the buyer to come with me to my vet for another opinion. This was a pup who was bred from sound parents and it was a total shock to me. These things can, and do, happen. It is very unfortunate. I've been on the other side too. My first Cavalier had very bad knees Edited to add that I just read she was on calcium powder. You can do damage with calcium!
  17. Obviously I will check with the vet on the day but just wondering if anyone can tell me if the drops they use to dilate the pupils are safe to use on a bitch who has been recently mated. I have Bree booked in to an eye clinic on Saturday and she's been recently mated. TIA :)
  18. I hope he heals quickly and well Shezz. How frightening!
