Hi, I go to semaphore veterinary surgery. I used to live at North Haven so it was close, now I live at Gulfview Heights so its a longer drive, but I have been very happy with their service so the trip does not bother me. Bruce and Allison are fantastic.

Fulham Gardens Vet Clinic on Tapleys Hill Rd. They have recently moved to new premises about 500m north of their previous location. We have been taking our dogs there for 5 years or so, and have found them to be fantastic.

No no no no no no.

I've said it before, I'll say it again - they do NOT know their stuff. I know its open later and all that, but it doesn't make up for expertise.

wire, I live in Glenelg too. I've been vet hopping. I can not speak highly enough of Dr. Nick Male at Marion Small Animal Hospital, 827 Marion Rd, Mitchell Park.

We will have to agree to disagree. When our dog was diagnosed with some quite serious kidney problems, they were spot on with their diagnosis and advice. Our dog ended up seeing a specialist at AVSARC on Magill Rd on a regular basis, and he spoke very highly of Fulham Gardens Vet Clinic, and the advice/treatment etc they had offered.

Fevah, everyone has different experiences I suppose, but just like you I have tried many many vets. Right now I see no need to take my dogs anywhere else.

I'm with you Bellatrix. I live at Semaphore and use the Semaphore Vet Clinic - I think they do a great job! Bruce is always very good with my dogs and they have helped out in some sticky situations!

Thanks everyone for your imput :thumbsup::o:)

We recently had a health scare with our little boy and although our vet was ok, I felt a little, umm, lacking of advice over his situation. To be fair though, we had to follow up with several blood tests over 3 weeks to come to anything conclusive and fortunately all seems to be getting back to normal. Thank goodness for this site and google, as I was able to obtain an enormous amount of information.

I will make a list of all the vets you guys have listed and work out who are closer to us and take it from there.

Once again, thanks :)

Don't just snipe at me, two other posters agreed with me so I have no idea why you decided to single me out.

I went through a very traumatic experience with my old girl and they had absolutely no clue, I finally got so frustrated I went to my previous vet that lived an hour away from me, he told me the problem within a minute, gave me the medication needed and she had a heart attack after the visit before we got in the car and passed away. He even let me ring my parents who were overseas at the time, and let me stay and cuddle her and bawl and grieve until I felt strong enough to drive home.

This was after a week of going to Fulham, day after day, they even made me take an x-ray even though the problem was clear (no, not to the everyday pet owner, but should of been damn clear to a vet). She was old and in pain and someone should of had the guts to tell me to put her out of her misery, like my old vet did when I finally took her there, but the Fulham vets I saw (and yes it was more than one) didn't seem overly concerned, probably because she was an old dog so who cares right?

So, yes, our opinions differ - greatly.

I have only just come across this post and I would like to highly recommend my vets and they are not far from Glenelg, most probably just 20 minutes away, it is the Hub Vet clinic at Aberfoyle Park.

It is a husband and wife team Dr. Ian Mather and Dr. Barb Menzies, very very knowledgable on all Vet care and are both very loving toward all animals, they never rush you and will explain everything to you, their nurses are all highly qualified and just as caring, sometimes the clinic will be closed for an hour while Ian and Barb bring them up to date on things that matter.

I have to have good vets because mine is a bracchy breed and they can be a little harder than long nosed breeds with aenesthetics and this is required when I have a bitch in whelp as my breed have to have c sections 99% of the time.

I once had a puppy, 13 days old, she got pneumonia from inhaling milk, they kept her at the clinic during the day and took her home with them to tube feed her during the night, to me that is a measure of their care.

Ian also does accupuncture.

They are very reasonable with their charges as well.

Another thumbs up up for Colonel Light Vet Clinic, have been going there for years and LOVE them :) I was also impressed with the Southern Animal Hospital for the several emergencies we have had, won't use them as a regular vet though!!

I Have head good things about the Marion Animal Hospital too although haven't used them

I haven't made up my mind about marion animal hospital as yet. I had Teddy desexed there and he only had one ball so they had to have a look around as well and open him up and that got infected and I had to take him back the next day and he was very very sick. They kept him in for the week and didnt charge me (probably cause the first bill was huge anyway) and let us visit him everyday. The Vet was very nice and they were very accomodating and it was nice of them not to charge us for his weeks stay

Relax Fevah, nobody is sniping. Our opinions differ, that is all. Yes two others agreed with you, but the many others that are there every time I take my dog in (weekly at present due to an ongoing problem) agree with me.

No big deal, I have my opinion as do you. It happens, so no need to be so sensitive because we don't agree.

For the record, my dog is almost 15, and Kylie doesn't seem to think his welfare is a case of "who cares?"

There are also "the many others" you wont see as they no longer go there.

I merely told of one of my experiences with this practice not those of my family, friends or neighbours who no longer go there due to their own experiences.

Thanks Gracie Monsta, I fully accept that.

I ended up at the clinic after being unhappy with our previous vet at Henley Beach Vet Clinic.

My experiences have been great, but I fully accept that those of others may not have been. If I ever had to go through the hassle that Fevah has obviously experienced, I wouldn't hesitate to move my dogs elsewhere.

At the end of the day, we all have our pets' welfare foremost in our minds, so we all do what we think is best.

I know that a few people on here do not like the Fulham gardens vet, but from my experience I have found them to be very thorough. We take our all our animals (birds, dog, rabbits) to the Findon Vet usually though (its their sister vet) and then to the Fulham one if its after hours. From our experience, we've been really happy with the service and advice they have provided. However, I must also mention that the only operation/serious surgery we've had to have done is desexing. We've never a a serious problem with our dog, but with our rabbits, because we were so comfortable to take our animals there, even for a small thing, what ended up being a potentially serious thing for our rabbits, got nipt in the but early, in the end saving us a lot of $ and potentially a life.

This is just my own personal experience, and like most things in life, people will probably agree and disagree. The most important thing is to find one that you are most comfortable with. If you don't like what you get, keep looking until your happy! all the best!

P.S. the Fulham surgery has recently moved and upgraded, not sure if it from a change of ownership or not.

Sorry, but I'm another person who cannot recommend the Fulham Gardens Veterinary. I won't go into all the details, but let's just say that the first thing they did wrong was record an incorrect weight... They put the dog at over 25kg when she was only 17kg...

Probably too late for the OP now, and possibly too far away, but I heard great things, and had wonderful experiences with Kylie (I think that's her name, going of memory here) at Payneham Vet Clinic in the short time I was in Adelaide.

It's probably a bit far for you but Derek McNair from The Parade veterinary clinic is fantastic. I can't speak more highly of a vet. He has a fantastic repore with my two dogs and they just can't wait to get in there and see him.

He is also very thorough with his testing and diagnosis. My boy has an auto immune disease that was quite complicated to diagnose and he was fantastic. Then when my girl was hit by a car he cancelled a BBQ and came in on his day off to see to her even though there were other vets on duty. But because she is primarily his patient he made the effort. I was impressed and so grateful!

Yes kiesha09 my experience with Derek is the same. My mother was sooooo impressed with the way he handled an injury to my littlest westie, she now drives across town to take her cat to him. The other two vets at that practice, Christine and Jim are terrific too. It's a great practice IMO, reasonably priced and if the one I need to see isn't there, then I'm perfectly happy to see either of the other two. Great to have that sort of confidence in a practice. :)

I live nearby and I go to :

Marion Animal Hospital

827 Marion Road

Mitchell Park SA 5043

It was highly reccomended by other DOLers that the vets there were good.

I've been impressed with both the people I saw there.

Can't remember the name of the last guy I saw but he was very charismatic, a great pleasure.

They're open weekends and public holidays too, so it's piece of mind for me my regular vet is also my emergency vet.

Oh wow didn't realise how old this thread is.

My ideas still stand for anyone else who wants a good vet ;)

Esky the Husky, that sounds like Dion - he is great and who I would go to if I were even remotely close to Marion.

This is an old thread and I have a feeling the person that resurrected it is hoping we will ask them what went wrong with their dog at the vet.
