becks
I'd go see the december litter or ask the breeder for other people she would recommend with pups due soonish.
leannek
My story is similar to yours except I had no dog. I qualified as a potential owner with my preferred breeder and was so excited that I would be getting a new baby :D Unfortunately the litter was lost and I then had a choice of waiting for maybe another 6 to 12 months or going with another breeder. I opted to stay with my preferred breeder. In the wait time I became a foster carer and found that helped the time pass. I now have my precious boy who is 18 weeks old and was definitely worth waiting for. I think this is really a personal choice and depends on the reasons for your new baby. Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to do the same again, because I love my breeder. Good luck with whatever you decide
SkySoaringMagpie
It depends what you want the dog for. If you picked this breeder because they breed exactly what you want for performance or show I would wait. OTOH, if you want a companion and it doesn't matter to you whether the lines are from Timbuktoo or Glen Waverley then I'd look at the puppy listings. I'd also factor in the relationship with the breeder, if it's a good one it's worth waiting a year or two.
weisnjac
I'm sorry to hear that :D I would probebly get in contact with the owner of the bitch and find out what they are like and what the bitch is like before I made any decisions. You may not get on with them as well as you do with this breeder. Best of luck with what ever you choose
poodlefan
Bugger. :D This is the downside of buying a purebred pup from a registered breeder - the earlier you get involved during the breeding process, the greater the chance of disappointment. If you don't want to have to wait, I'd ask the breeder who'd they'd recommend or visit the owner of the bitch (or both). Will also PM you a contact. Cosmolo
Thanks everyone. SSM- i chose this breeder mainly because she has lovely dogs and because of the way the pup would be raised/ socialised in its early stages. We are not looking to compete or show BUT want a pup with plenty of drive and athleticism as he will get plenty of training! I have replied to the breeder asking for the bitch's breeders' details and will contact them and go from there.
Cosmolo
I have just found out that the outside bitch was not successfully mated The breeder sounds very disappointed, as are we- both that the litter didn't eventuate and as a result, no puppy for us. She sent a lovely email, saying very nice things about another breeder that we have made enquiries with, and their dogs as well as asking us to keep in touch. I am sure we will get a puppy from her at some stage, but not this time. We have made enquiries with regards to a planned mating by another breeder which we'd be really interested in but if that one does not eventuate, we will wait. I don't want to randomly choose a breeder just because they have puppies available- that would seem like throwing the last 6 months away.
Loving my Oldies
It seems as though you are destined for a long wait, Cosmo; but think of the puppy you will eventually have - remembering the photos of the eventual parents.
Cosmolo
Thanks Cynthia. But we may be going to the other breeder who will have different parents. i will just have to check to make sure i can post photos of the 'new' potential parents. Waiting is fine, just can't help the initial disappointment!
Guest Clover
How disapointing Comolo. Fingers crossed that you will find the perfect puppy/ breeder.

Kirislin
I've only just read this whole thread, I can imagine and almost feel your disappointment. It's your decision but I will say I wanted a whippet puppy from a particular breeder. I first saw his whippets in 1995 and it wasn't until 2000 that I eventually got one. From the time I actually made approaches to say I wanted a puppy it was close to 12months before I finally got her, my beautiful Kibah. I never regretted the wait. It might take you a while before you get a pup from this breeder and you might even get another pup from someone else in the meantime, but I hope you eventually get one from them too. Cosmolo
Well, we have a slightly exciting update.. Turns out Crumble- the original bitch is pregnant! We have known for a few weeks but didn't want to say anything until it was confirmed and going well! Puppies are due next week and we have our fingers crossed that there will be a little boy in there for us! The breeder has been so great- every time i ask for a photo or update, she always sends some through. We still know there is a long way to go- alot could happen between now and when the pups are 8 weeks so please keep your fingers crossed for us, the breeder, Crumble and the puppies!
