Hopefully this last surgery, which he had this morning, will be enough to prevent any more problems. 8 weeks old 5 months old, conjunctival graft for an ulcer which 12 hours later became a 'melting cornea' while on antibiotics. 6 months age, the conjunctival graft was removed 7 months, still suffering from ulcers and inflamation 7.5 months, surgery to make openings smaller to hopefully prevent more problems 19 months (last week) Still big and having inflammatory problems and early signs of pigmentary kerititis Today, a specialist surgery to close eyes medially too, and fix laterally which had stretched since their original surgery With his carer He's still super sleepy and his eyes are quite swollen, so please send us your healing vibes for a quick recovery!! Tell me about it :D Thanks for the vibes everyone.. they're working.. i got his lead out to take him outside to the toilet and suddenly he wasn't groggy anymore he's been snuffling around for food so i gave him some chicken which he scoffed. That was enough though, back on the couch with his daddy now! edit: puggy puggy, when you say they dont look as slit eyed, i wonder if thats good or bad? is it because they were so huge to start with? once the swelling goes down, will it not be enough? maybe he's not actually all that swollen? ... hmmmm... puggy_puggy Posted October 15, 2009 Share Posted October 15, 2009 They usally look very slit like because they have tacking stitches in so that the normal stitches can do their job without being under pressure. Bindii - thank dog he has you. He may have ended up with an owner who didn't have the finances, knowledge or cared enough to help him and he would have lived a life of pain and misery and defnite total blindness. His eyes look good on that last pic. Hopefully, that will be the end of his worries. Bindii, what was causing the PK? Does he suffer dry eye too or was it exposure and irritation? I've tried to contact them on a few occasions - not to ask for money - just to let them know what one of the dog's theyve bred has been through. I got the husband or the daughter and was told the wife/mum would call me back, i've tried 3 times, last time in February... they don't have the internet, i got the point. I saw them at a show last week and really wanted try again, but by the time i worked out what to say (without being angry!) i couldn't find them. Next time, when he's with us supporting his fluffy brother, i will take him over and tell them his story. My issue isn't the money (i mean its ridiculous, and it is an issue, but it's not the main problem here) my issue is just that they are have shown little/no interest in this genetic problem, turning a blind eye, and it's just really upsetting. They told me when i bought him if i ever wanted to show him down the track that he has perfect eyes being 'large and globular' .. you can see in the pics of him at 8 weeks that they were going to be a problem, they don't look right at all (i wish i had have known at the time) I'm so glad that line has since been removed from the Pug standard. While a huge part of me regrets handing my money over to them and wishing i had have done more research before just assuming that all registered breeders were ethical, a huger part of me is glad that my ignorance led me to this boy so that we could give him 100% attention and care and in return we have the greatest little guy in the world. How about writing them a letter, that way you can word things the way you want. I understand it's not about money, I am in a similar situation.
