I use the limited slip over a flat so it can sit loose on the dog but they can't pull backwards out of it on a lead - something about labs and all their jowls bunched up doesn't look right for me. The limited slip I have has less 'slip' than a martingale however I have seen some of the rogz (i think) ones and they have way too much for my liking.

I also prefer it as there is no buckle (I have experienced holding a lead attached to collar with a dog running off in the distance - so never again )

All in all its a different variation for the same results - personally I prefer the look of the limited slip.

If you want to use it for corrections I'd suggest a martingale with a bit of chain for the slip (I don't see how just jerking the dog will correct but at least with a chain you get a auditory cue)

Does anyone still use the choker chains for walking? My last girl had one from day 1 right up until year 14 (even though she didnt need controling then but she still preferred it)

I use a check chain on my Pointer but not until he was over 6 months old, before that I used a martingale collar. But with his thick strong neck he just pulled more in it. He now walks really good in a check chain. I didn't want to walk him in a check chain but tried everything else and this works best. He has some fears we're working on and it gives me the best control when he gets scared.

They dont look to bad, havent seen those before.

Has anyone tried the Martingale collar?

I used to use a martingale on my Belgian Shepherd but due to all of the fur she has, I found it hard to get on and off without choking her. So I changed to a leather collar but she walks in a front clip harness.

No he's three weeks now. I saw him for the first time on Sunday though. I'm interstate at the moment but will post some pics when I get back. I can't remember which dogs were the same now but I put both his parents profiles up earlier in this thread.

Tara im sure with enough training you will be able to walk your dog on a flat collar its all thats allowed at most obedience clubs now besides halti's.

Maybe in WA, but I don't know of any club in QLD that doesn't allow check chains, I would suggest majority of the clubs in Oz still allow the use of check chains.
