Lovely to see Australia being represented

The GSD was their reserve dog. The 3 working sheepdogs were the ones who competed. Still nice to see they were picked for the team.

Haha I was playing pick the odd dog out and was happy too see breeds other than BCs!

They obviously deserve their spot just nice seeing something other than BCs

I must admit I was curious as to which breeds would be represented - not surprised at the number of BCs  . I'm sure I saw a Malinois too and I wonder how often in the past they've appeared in a Crufts Obedience ring?

Well done everyone.

Lowest score wins? Petra won?

Know her "field" bred labrador pedigree very well. Having had the opportunity to view sire dam, and three of four grandparent during my travels. Very (let us say )....sporting shape body......active, intelligent, high desire labradors.

So was there a Labrador in the obedience competition? I would love to see it, but not sure how to search through the really long videos

Just the individual winner of the World Cup.

Here you go, I have found a short general video: (um um um, cannot link it - located in youtube, under heading Crufts 2012 obedience):

Day 4 - World Cup Obedience Part 13 Interviews - Crufts 2012

Hope this helps?

Typed too quickly for me...thanks again.

Any idea was breed a W/S is?

Working sheepdog. A border collie who isn't KC or ISDS registered

ETA The UK KC recognizes the ISDS (International Sheepdog Society, the original BC registry) as a registry so ISDS dogs are usually registered on the KCs registry when registered for obedience.

Thanks Janba. Is ISDS the organisation who is somewhat against show/bench dogs?

I don't know that they are actively against show/bench dogs but don't recognise KC pedigrees which I think is the same for most the working BC registries world wide where as most KCs recognise the main working registry pedigrees. The working registries pre date the show registries. The main US working registry, ABCA, is anti show dogs and will deregister any dog that gets a conformation title.

In the agiliy - large dogs was mostly BCs too  and medium dogs a decent smatterimg of them as well. I saw 3 Kelpies competing in the agility (2 in ABC 1 in championships), a few Bearded Collies, a Malinois, a Groenendael, a GSD, several Shelties and Poodles, a Toller, and a few others

I watched footage of the black lab. Lovely dog.

Hopefully a field lab winning the obedience will highlight that there are working derivatives in many breeds.

Sorry, could you clarify....."highlight that there are working derivatives in many breeds"? In the UK and US for example, field and show labradors SPLIT many many years ago. There was not been a DUAL (show/bench - field) champion for decades.

That's what I meant, that the show lab's that people see are not the only labs available. I first read about field labs in the book Marley & Me, other than that I would have assumed that the labs I see at shows were the only style of lab available. I use the word 'derivative' as I doubt the field labs are recognised as a seperate breed. Granted, the field lab was the original lab :)

That is one massive Lab. It's so tall!

Thanks Ness.

Tollersowned Yank my US import is quite tall also, a close relative. Yank's Australian Customs boys have some leg also. His other GET nice and leggy also.

I love long legs on labradors.

I think I've met Yank, he didn't seem as tall as that boy, are the working Labs usually really tall? Leggy I know but so big?

I've just never really seen many working line Labs, I've just spent yesterday watching some show Labs waddle around the ring while waiting my turn so it's shocking the two are the same breed!

 But also :(

I watched the working gun dog demonstration and thought those Labs were stunning! Lots of leg, still looked like a Lab in the head too!!! Some field labs don't exactly look like Labs anymore (probably badly bred ones) but these ones looked great!!

ETA I think that Lab only looks so big because many Labs in Aus are so short!!! I once took my friends Lab who is top of the standard down to a show class and everyone was commenting on how huge and oversize he must be. It's Dogs 56 - 57 cms (22-22.5 ins) at withers and Bitches 55 - 56 cms (21.5 - 22 ins) at withers
