dididog Posted June 26, 2014 Share Posted June 26, 2014 Never had much luck with the kongs so I got Didi a Bob-a-lot instead which she loves... she just uses it the wrong way :laugh: she picks it up by the top bit in her mouth and then drops it on the floor and the biscuits fly out. He has always been particularly adept at inhaling his food so I bought him a Kong Wobbler a while ago which has worked a treat. The only problem with this is he has worked out that if he tips it on its side and rolls it along with his nose, he can finish it in about 10 minutes (or less). Not only would I like food dispensing toys to last longer, he has also managed to develop a bald spot on his nose front the constant rubbing as it rolls along the ground!! So what I'm looking for is a food dispensing toy with the following properties, yes I'm picky! ;) - big enough to hold a cup (or more) of food - preferably not round, we want to avoid bald noses if possible - big enough holes to allow Royal Canin Maxi Light dog biscuits to fall out (they're about 1/2 and inch wide I reckon?) - preferably not one where you have to sit there for half an hour putting one biscuit in at a time (although this is negotiable) So if anyone has any recommendations/suggestions, please send them my way :) Many thanks! My GR has recently developed an ugly bald nose issue too....I suspected the kong wobbler but she's been using it for 5 years with no issues previously, so I thought it must be something else. I do this evry morning with my very food motivated Standard Schnauzer puppy. It takes him about half an hour or more to find and eat a cup of kibble. It also helps to slow down the mad eating frenzy :) We do this too, and I tend to rake it into the mulch to irritate them even more :laugh: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
MouseR Posted June 27, 2014 Share Posted June 27, 2014 (edited) Haven't read through all the other comments so sorry if I am repeating suggestions but I had the wobbler and same problem, he worked it out to fast! I then moved to one I bought off eBay called a boredom buster which worked really well (once I worked out how to fill it! I got the large because I sometimes feed large breed kibble. We also have a few Nina Ottoson food puzzles which are great seeing as I have a border collie and the mental stimulation is fantastic. I also have the green interactive dog feeder bowl that I bought off eBay which is fantastic and takes ages if I spread it around the feeder. Other then that I sometimes just take the lid off a Gatorade bottle and throw his food in that and if I'm running late a good scatter feed in the back yard has to suffice!! Mrs RB I suspect it's a bit like other slow feeder type bowls, it depends whether the dog thinks to pick it up. But maybe if I supervised... I've been putting some of her kibble ration into a bath mat and rolling it up like a swiss roll and letting her work it out. That's supervised too - to make sure she doesn't eat her way through the mat to get to the food. So fair - she hasn't figured out how to unroll the roll but she does get all the food out, and then she gives the mat a good shaking and then brings it to me and shoves it in my lap. Tara8430 Posted July 6, 2014 Share Posted July 6, 2014 The kong wobbler gave my Labrador girl a bare patch on her nose too, she loves it so much but have had to retire it for a while till her nose recovers, she had been now using the planet dog snoop which I wanted her to try out anyway since we sell them, she loves it but it does dispense the food easy especially if it small food, she usually gets an apple of carrot which I can chop bigger. But the good thing about the snoop is its soft and doesn't wear her nose and you can make it more difficult but plugging with with a ball which they have to get out first. If anyone has any links to the most difficult food dispensing puzzle known to dog that would be great He figured out the kong wobbler at 12 weeks, and a "Hard" Nina Ottosson in about 5 minutes first go at 6months. The food would come out and he would keep tugging on the thing I would have to put high quality treats in it for him to take notice. I'd prefer it for his normal meal.
