Questions About Professional Groomers?
Rysup replied to PoppyDog's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Rule one - tell them what you want. IF you dont, they wont know. They do so many dogs in between your visits that there is no way on earth they can remember what they did last time, beyond the basics that get recorded (like coat length etc). I always make a point in asking the client what they want done.....and I DONT like it when they say, oh like last time. I have to tell them I just dont remember last time!! -
I also agree with Pers. I had to put my beautiful Lexie to sleep last year. We missed the fact she had breast cancer until it was too late. But she was happy and able to continue on, but in July it was getting to be too much. She was in pain, it hurt to walk, she didnt want to eat. She told me it was time. It was the hardest thing i have ever had to do and I still cry over it. She was only 10 years old, and it broke my heart. Oscar will tell you when its time.

Keeshonds are very good for townhouses and apartments, however I'd not suggest you leave them outside while you are at work. Better off left inside. Much less to bark at.

Dont forget the fleas will still hop on with these products, they should then die. So seeing a flea doesnt mean there is a colony moving in.

I dont use anything but trolleys - for transport, for dogs, for grooming on, they are a must if you have any sort of hairy hound And they save you 20 trips to the car!

Moving Dog To Neuter Register In Victoria
Rysup replied to SilverHaze's topic in General Dog Discussion
Wonder if you sent it to Dogs NSW if they would accept and do the transfer? LOL I think its a joke how different each state is, yet we all supposedly work under the ANKC banner. Wish they would make it one uniform rule (and fee!) for the whole country! -
When I am showing heavily my dogs get bathed weekly. The Lhasa's in fact get bathed twice a week. At work I groom a dog that gets done every week. On the other hand, the retired Kees get bathed about once to twice a year.

Please dont bring her inside because it is cold, get her used to it, and then chuck her back outside once the weather warms back up. If you dont intend to have her come inside forever more, then just buy her a nice warm jacket for winter.

I am possibly getting a puppy from a litter sired by one of my boys. Only trouble is it must be a boy, as there were only boys in the litter. So I am at my full quota of boys, as usually I will only run 1 boy per group here. But I am really very very tempted to take one, and try to integrate this new boy in with his father. Dad & grandma currently run together, and I would like to add in this new baby. What would be the best way to introduce him? Should I separate him when I cannot be there to supervise? I am rarely at work for more than about 4 hours each day. If it was a bitch, I would have no drama. Keeshonds are pretty easy dogs, but dad does fence fight with his own father, so they are always at least 2 fences apart (due to breaking teeth on the fence!) If it's not going to work, I CAN make puppy his own run, but at the moment that's the day run for the old man of the house. What to do, what to do................

My eldest is 15 and now blind. If we have to go away, I get someone in to dog sit him here, as he does not handle change well now. He likes his routine, he likes knowing his way around, he likes knowing all the right spots to pee etc etc. My sister has come and dog sat, and I've also had a friend come. It also helps that we have quite a few dogs, so I could not afford to kennel them all anyway. But I would not move Andre, he deserves that.

I use Comfortis now, and its a godsend. But I dont use Sentinel so dont know if its compatible.

I have a BA Dip Ed. I work as a Groomer. I also run my own business doing dog show catalogues. I have been showing & (very occasionally) breeding Keeshonds for 19 years, and Lhasa Apsos for 15 years.

When I had my beautiful Lexie PTS last year, they took her out the back to put a line into her leg first. Without things going wrong, its still one of the most heartbreaking experiences I've ever had. I really feel for your friend.

Good Groomer In The Hills District

I groom out at Glenhaven Vet and my boss has a salon in Castle Hill. http://www.petbodyworks.com.au -
Well done! I can imagine sheer panic, good thing she came back, what a relieft. Somewhat O/T, but what was the flea-spray? How scary! It was Fleatrol Plus. I'd just bathed & dried the two of them, and sprayed them with the spray. I put her down, to do her mother, heard this STRANGE noise behind me, turned around to see her out cold on the floor. I seriously thought she was dead! No way I could have gotten her to a vet in time to do anything, and something made me feel for that pulse. It was one of the most stressful moments of my life, but I am sooooo glad I was able to hold it together to do it. I did run around in circles thinking OMG OMG OMG shes dead OMG OMG OMG - it felt like ages, but it cannot have been too long as I dont think she suffered any permanent damage due to lack of oxygen. Yes the pulse inside the thigh - she's a thin dog and it was plain as day. It's right up high in the groin area - its a good idea to know where to find it before you have an emergency situation!

I resuscitated my Lhasa Apso bitch about a year or so ago. She had an adverse reaction to a flea spray, and collapsed and stopped breathing. After about 10 seconds of sheer blind panic, something made me check for a pulse inside her thigh, which I found, so I grabbed her, and started breathing in her nose. She came back!

Sounds like the vet who told my puppy buyers that if they did not desex their bitch before 6 months old she would get cancer and die. They rang me terrified! No way the price should double. I would find a new vet too.
-
That seems pricey to me, but I've never had to have it done either.
-
I would never vaccinate before 8 weeks now either. I have done then as early as 5 weeks in the past, but not anymore.

I have a dog who has chronic runny poops as a puppy, and into adulthood. It took me about 12 months to work out he was allergic to chicken, and it was chicken causing it. So now he is on Lamb & Rice kibble, with some beef/kangaroo/lamb mince and he is fine.

Only people I trust are allowed to use my boys at stud. I dont take payment until there are pups on the ground, and even then I prefer to work on a barter system, and will often take a stud back in lieu. I wont use a dog if I cannot pay at the time of first sale of puppies. I just dont have that sort of money on hand most of the time. I always ask first though, never assume.

Brand really doesnt matter a lot as long as you get the scissor style rather than the guillotine style. I like the Grip Soft ones personally.
