  1. When my bitch lost her litter, the best thing I did was put her straight back out with the other dogs and act like nothing had happened. Inside she was mourning so terribly it broke my heart. But once she was back to normal, she was much better.
  2. How long is a piece of string? What one person loves someone else will hate. You really need to go and test out a few brands before you make that sort of decision.
  3. It isnt hard to take the tonneau cover off, and roll it up and put it on the front seat, and tether the dog in the back. Its just hard if you are lazy. I help OH take his on and off every time he washes it (which is a lot) and its not difficult to take it off on your own. Putting it back on is easier with two people, unless you dont care about scratching your "baby". OH would never travel his dog in the back, he gets the front seat! I would just be drying the dog off well before letting it back in!
  4. I like the skirt over your head idea LOL He will cope, you might not though!!
  5. We sprayed around our back patio area last week with Coopex, and the next morning there were dead cockroaches and flies all over the place. We will be spraying regularly with this, it is mainly to try and keep the fleas down, as we get them terribly bad in the back yard. You can now buy it from Bunnings too I noticed, in a little sachet. We have had the fly traps but they are only so good, and are terribly gross to empty LOL
  6. Poo I need the next size up!
  7. I just give mine plenty of room. They dont come in on the tiles very often, so its the other dogs that knock mine over. About 6 months ago I watched one of my boys go diving onto his mothers back, it was like slow motion, and to see the pain on her face, and then her 4 legs just sort of pop out the sides of her, and she was flat on her chest. Poor old girl Since then I am very tough on anyone who thinks its ok to stand on anyone elses back. Son is oh 8 or 9 and mum is almost 14.
  8. I don't know why they would want to drag it back up now. I was a bit distressed about it last night, as when all this went on I was very upset. The dog was very much loved and we'd have never wished her dead instead of going back. So to have all those old feelings dredged up was hurtful.
  9. Thanks Bokezu, that's what I was thinking too, but wondered if I was way off base. And thank you too Dunnwarren. It was a very sad saga, but I thought everyone had just moved on! Sadly not.
  10. Here is a scenario for you. You get a puppy "dropped" on your doorstep by a "friend". You did not ask for a puppy, nor get given any warning. You take the puppy in and show it, and feed it and pay for all expenses. The puppy is leased to you for showing purposes. You and the breeder have a falling out over something else, and they demand the puppy back. You agree, but then tragedy strikes and puppy dies before it gets returned. Breeder makes various threats and demands, and in the end you tell them to not contact you again. Its too stressful. Three years go by, and then you get a message from that breeder again making demands and threatening court action. What would you do? Do you think the breeder has anything to actually take to court? There was no agreement, either verbal or written. Or would you offer to compensate the breeder as per their demands?
  11. Dogs NSW sells this I am sure. http://www.dogsnsw.org.au/resources/bookshop.html
  12. Many breeds carry "terrier" names that are not true terriers - Tibetan Terrier is another. The Black Russian Terrier is in the Utility group, so in essence he cannot be a true terrier? I often wonder why the Amstaff is in the terrier group
  13. I show, and I am involved in numerous clubs. I have been Secretary of two All Breeds Clubs, one for about 2 years and the other I have been the secretary for going on 10 years now  And I am involved in both my breed clubs pretty much constantly since I started. Currently Secretary of one, and President of the other. If people dont volunteer their time, to at least one club, then numbers drop and clubs have trouble staying alive. It can be hard work, but I think if everyone did just one job then that burden is shared.
  14. She looks in good condition to me. You want to see some rib, otherwise they are carrying too much weight.
  15. The one test we have for Keeshonds is owned by a lab in the US and they will NOT make agreements with other labs. We MUST send it over to them. A big fat pain in the proverbial!
  16. You must come from the same side as my OH. I keep our Amstaff lean, OH thinks he is starving to death. He got terribly fat when OH was feeding him, so now I do it. Will be interested to hear how heavy she is. Our boy is about 30kgs. Lean, hard muscle. When I hear about Amstaffs that are 45kgs plus I am shocked, they are either very fat or far too large overall. Most are fat.
  17. I am so sorry Gayle. My lovely old Lhasa just turned 15 and is still powering along, but every morning I check on him with trepidation. He sleeps soooo soundly. Speedy trip to the Bridge for your little girl, my little girl is waiting there for her arrival.
  18. Well I guess my Amstaff is very drivey, but I have never attempted any training with him other than for the show ring. He will do ANYTHING for food though, so I reckon it would be pretty easy to train him. TTs are great dogs, but if you want to keep them in anything close to show coat then its a LOT LOT LOT of work. If you are happy to clip them back 3 or 4 times a year, then its very easy to care for. Most breeds with LONG hair (not fluffy hair) are much harder work. So Shih Tzu, Lhasa Apso, Tibetan Terrier and I would assume Bearded Collies are a lot of work to keep in top coat BUT easy if you dont mind them not being in full show ring worthy hair. TTs are also not small but not big. Bigger than a beagle, about knee high would be pretty normal size wise.
  19. Are the birds resident at PH vet?? That is always a problem for me. Even birds as clients can be a big drama!
  20. My neighbours have Labs but I think they exported their only Chocolate boy. But their stud dog carries the choc gene. PM me if you want more info.
  21. Yes. He will slim down in due course I am sure EDIT - the difference in the amount of drug for each weight range is quite a bit, I was surprised.
  22. Keesie, all the way. Grooming, pftt what is that? They dont need grooming. Honest. Would this face lie???
  23. It could well be the fish. My dog is allergic to chicken & wheat. It took me almost 3 years to work it out.
