  1. Like Miss B it was a natural progression. I ordered a puppy when I was still at school. In between ordering and getting, I was convinced I should show the puppy. Started showing and was well and truly hooked. This year marks my 19th year in the show ring, and 21st year in the breed I adore (Keeshonds), and I have had 8 litters in those 19 years. I fell in love with Lhasa Apsos after I started showing. I bought a dog, and then a few years later, a bitch, then got another bitch as a stud fee. I've had 2 litters of Lhasas but found them much trickier to breed, and so have decided to leave that to those better at it than I. I am happy to buy in my show dogs, and send them back to the breeder for having litters. The Amstaff is really my OH's choice of breed, and we're no where close to being breeders of them. Way too many around as it is!
  2. $1 per entry, plus the mailing fee (65c or something last time I looked?), plus the credit card surcharge. Yes it adds up, but its the convenience you are paying for. To some people thats is priceless!
  3. I will say it again, it DOES NOT cost the CLUB using it anything. The exhibitors pay extra, not the club. And yes if you are a busy person, that extra cost is really nothing! And you still have the choice. I use Ozentries to enter shows rarely, but I have done, when I forgot to send normal entries for example.
  4. Every show I catalogue for has the option to use it. Its so easy for me!
  5. You print them out. You CAN choose not to have the entries sent out when you set it up, so they dont HAVE to have all that extra work. But none of us up here write anything out by hand, let me assure you!!!
  6. Its up to the clubs! If you are involved in a club, ask them to do it. Does not cost the club anything!
  7. I would be ringing around! When I was getting desexing prices I found Quakers Hill Vet to be the best price wise. Maybe try them.
  8. Stupid owners are never going to go away. Bull breeds attract them. Even half the "show people" have no idea about how to live with a bull breed. They are not a Golden Retriever. And ok ludicrous is an opinion, you got me LOL
  9. Dead right... the proof lies in the outcome. The australian research showed that the significant majority of registered breeders had more control over the numbers of litters they produced, than did unregistered breeders. And this control was linked with better welfare outcomes for the puppies. You & your fellow breeders are highlighting your preference about controlling litters. Which has positive outcomes. This needs to addressed and right away. You should pick a number of litters that is ethical and would prove they are bettering the breed and would assure the poistive outcomes desired. Maybe one litter every 3 years would be good. Then make this a law with some government oversight. This is such a shame to hear this is happening in the ANKC. I personally, average about 1 litter every 5 years, give or take. But there are breeders within my breed who have no hesitation in breeding 10-15 litters a year.
  10. In my breed we call anyone who has more litters than they "need" to, a puppy farmer, but its a reasonably light hearted reference. We do not mean they are indeed true puppy farmers, but that they are breeding for the pet market, for the money, not to improve their stock. I find that article a bit extreme. I also dont believe blanket health testing is the answer. Dont ask me what is though!
  11. How is this open ended? It says approximately 18-19 inches. Not "any size you like" or " 18-19 but its ok if you go 24-25"? I do not see any open endedness here. And just to be sure "approximate" means "fairly accurate but not totally precise". So yep, you can go a little bit bigger or smaller, but it is not open license for any size you like. A quick scan through all the terrier group standards and a lot of them say "approximately" or "about" in reference to size. Yet I dont see any other breed being bred so far from standard as the AST. As to the APBT size differences, I have no opinion except to say that's really just ludicrous.
  12. Ice bricks, wrapped inside pillow cases. The pups will line up along the sides of them. Dot them around the whelping box. Or if you dont have ice bricks, bottles of water into the freezer tonight, will do the same job.
  13. Been there, Done that. Can't really say I have seen many I would state were ''far bigger'' than the preferable 18''-19''. Repeat preferable You sound disgruntled? How tall are yours btw? Disgruntled? I guess a little disappointed, but not really disgruntled. If a judge cannot work out size without a wicket then I wonder why they are there. But hey! My current boy is 19 inches on the dot. There are plenty that are definitely far bigger. For me, any difference of more than 10% is too much. Regardless of breed.
  14. There are PLENTY of AST's in the SHOW RING who are far bigger than 18-19 inches! Plenty. Just come to a Sydney show with a wicket.
  15. Firstly you need a kennel run with a roof. That is step one.
  16. I got a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 which is a high-end point and shoot. You can use manual settings if you want, or you can just go the auto. I believe you can pick them up around $600 now days. Its a great, easy to use camera that looks like a DSLR
  17. I really like Trixan http://www.trixanpet.com.au/
  18. All our timber kennels have been eaten. Some lasted longer than others but in the end, they all fall apart. We need to buy an insulated colourbond one next time, so it lasts a bit longer. Though if I can get my hands on a small shed, that we can line, that is also an option.
  19. From memory the lease was for 2 years and I know he wanted to take her back for a litter. The show lease becks, is just a transfer of the papers into my name, and after 2 years it would revert back into his name.
  20. Def The Dog Whisperer. And then I watch all the various Animal Cops shows, there are a lot of them now.
  21. I'd do her for you but sadly I am a bit far away. Good luck!
  22. What about people who dont have a credit card? I agree, Ozentries need to get themselves a BPay number to start, and also offer direct deposit. A bit slower, and probably need more man hours for them though, where as the CC system would be pretty much automated. I would leave a bank who phased out cheques. Same as I left a bank who charged me too much. Love my current bank, but if they take away cheque books I will be mighty pissed off!
  23. Today was on of those days when you wonder WHY you do it!! Every single dog came in a matted mess. Where I work the full works is $75 for a small dog. We never shave off unless they are that bad you have no choice, or they request it. Plenty of people will complain that its too expensive, but for the finish they get, I think its worth it.
