  1. Temple Grandin is a she BTW If you have not watched the movie about her, its pretty inspiring.
  2. I dont think its breed related. I had two Lhasa Apso bitches who were best friends. One had a litter and the day we had the pups microchipped and one squarked, well the mother flew at the other bitch with intent to kill. After that we had to keep them apart at all times. I could not walk past with one in my arms without the other latching on to the dangling bits. One day we came home from work to find the door that kept them apart was not shut properly, and after a bit of searching I found two exhausted girls still going at it. It was only that they were both in full coat that they were not worse hurt. Bathing them later, they were both covered in puncture wounds. In the end it was so bad that I rehomed one of them. My current Keeshond bitches, I have 3. Holly 13 1/3 HATES Brie 5, and vice versa. Brie HATES Sarah 7. Sarah and Holly are absolutely fine together.
  3. Speaking of shampoos, they use Isle of Dogs where I work and I must say it totally takes out any doggy odour really well. I have no idea how long it lasts for though, have not tested it on my own dogs yet.
  4. Well Keeshonds are supposedly only grey because one of the original importers of the breed into the UK from Germany/Holland, decided so. There was no reason other than personal preference. But I have never personally seen a differently coloured Kees. One of my mentors had some black puppies, back before I was even born, but thats all I have heard of in this country. I would never PTS if I did have, I would probably want to keep it! They are so pretty! It gets pretty boring when you dont get colour variations in a breed! LOL Edit - Lhasa Apsos come in any colour you can think of. Only liver and blue are not acceptable due to non-black pigment.
  5. I have only heard of blacks being born in Australia, and that was a very very long time ago.
  6. Kees can come in red/orange, white, and black.
  7. Keeshonds take hours and hours of grooming every week. Mine have not seen a brush or a bath in close to 3 months, and that's just the show dog. The retirees its probably longer. Amstaffs are going to kill your baby. Maybe with love? Not mine anyway. They can however, be problematic with other dogs, after all, what were they bred for? Lhasa Apsos do live up to most preconceptions - they DO take a lot of maintenance to keep them in full coat, they are as stubborn as people say, but they are not dumb. They also so shed, and shed a lot.
  8. It's not always the sun causing reddening though. It can be diet, it can be change of coat (dead coat), it can be sun damage, it can be chemical damage.
  9. It will heal, if its not bleeding much I would just leave it.
  10. Seizures in an 8 week old puppy go like this - puppy is playing normally, then will suddenly fall down, legs thrashing, foaming at the mouth, sometimes urinate and defecate while all the muscles in the body go crazy. Then it will stop, be somewhat disorientated, but a few minutes to sometimes a bit longer, later, will be back to normal. Your puppy is dreaming. You would know a seizure if you saw it.
  11. The boy in my siggie turned red for over a year, and in the end I think it's due to a chicken allergy. Its taken me a LONG time to get the red out, as his wont blow his coat, just rolls it, but he is almost back to normal. Almost. *sigh*
  12. All our current dogs are outside during the daylight hours, and in kennels after dark. I simply cannot have 8 or 9 dogs in the house with a fussy OH and a kid who does not like dogs to touch him. When I have a Lhasa in show coat, they are inside all the time except for toilet breaks, but they are confined to a room or a pen. Only one of the dogs gets walked regularly, the rest are more than happy to self exercise.
  13. I've had a situation come up where the owners wanted me to buy back the dog they had had for over a year, and I didnt have the money at the time. I told them that I would assist in rehoming the dog, but if they had to give him away for free or a low price, please give me first option. Contact dropped off and a year later I was called by a stranger that had been GIVEN my dog for FREE, and they did not want him anymore. I was furious, but could not contact the original owners to tell them so. Anyway we took the dog back, who I swear had not seen a brush in the year these people had had him, and found him a lovely forever home where he raised a human family and lived to be a ripe old age. The reason the original owners didnt want him? They were having a baby. He was the BEST dog with kids ever, and I even dog sat him in my home a few times, and he was a delight to live with. So in hindsight I would go out of my way to take him back in the first instance. I did not have room the 2nd time we took him back, but he slept in a crate in my bedroom, and while it was a bit of work shuffling him around, I think he appreciated the one on one time he got because of it. We also did not (and still do not) have a breed rescue.
  14. Well my coated breeds are all outside during the day regardless of how hot it gets. They all have a wading pool in their runs, plus numerous water bowls and plenty of shade. On those 45+ days I go out and hose down the runs many times during the day, I put up extra shade with shade cloth and umbrellas/canopies, and keep a close eye on them, esp the oldies. They sleep in kennels in the garage and have two high velocity fans on them when its hot at night. They all cope just fine. Even the two eldest who are almost 15 and almost 14.
  15. Probably not going this year, but am still undecided.
  16. Should point out that my trailer with a bit of rotten wood, is over 12 years old now. Its only a tiny bit in one part of the floor.
  17. I know they are not meant to be hosed out, but sometimes accidents *have* to be hosed out! Especially when you are carting young puppies around. They are really awkward to sit in, and clean by hand, so I think accommodation should be made for easier cleaning. Mine has a wardrobe, would never be without it! It holds everything!
  18. I've always used Troy suspension on my babies, but must say I have never tested it against other products.
  19. The inside of my trailer is lined with a thin veneer type material which has either rotted in some spots and been chewed in others. Next trailer I get will be lined with something much more sturdy. The floor is timber and that has also rotted in some places. I would much prefer some sort of drainage hole in there. When I hose it out, the water has no way to escape, so its very hard to clean. If the floors had a central drain, that could be opened and closed, or covered over when not in use, it would be so much better. They are the things I dont like about mine. I can take some photos for you soonish, I am going to clean it up and sell it soon, as I want a smaller one.
  20. There are always plenty of juniors who would more than likely love to help handle your puppy.
  21. I would say no, not at this time, too young or not vaccinated enough, or whatever reason you want to use. If she insists later, once the pups are vaccinated and ready to go, then put the puppy in a pen out on the front lawn and let them meet through the wire there. I would not bring an adult dog into the house with babies though.
