  1. I am also another happy Nutro feeder. Harry gets a handful of beef/kanga mince and 2 cups of Lamb & Rice. Its made a huge improvement to his weight, coat and stools.
  2. I split the Advantage between my dogs. I have a 3kg, 9kg, and then 15kg and 30 kg dogs. It tells you the amounts needed for each size right there on the instruction leaflet. I just use a syringe and suck it all out, and they divide as necessary. And I did check the amounts per ml were the same for the different sizes and they were when I checked.
  3. Lordy, if it works please let me know, I have a bitch here I would love to bring into season! LOL I am sure she will be fine. She would need more than one hit (albeit big) of hormones to bring a season on I am sure.

    Dew Claws

or in my experience - a great big giant bald patch that goes half way around the leg. She got a terrible infection in it the week after it was done.
  5. I dont think it does Tris. I had council come out 3 years ago as a neighbour had complained we were running a business with the dogs. They scanned all my dogs mircochips, took photos of their accommodation, and that was pretty much the last of it. I laughed at her when she told me. I have not made a profit on a litter in over 10 years, and I have about 1 litter every 3 or 4 years. I think from memory, in the end, we just had to write a letter to council stating that we were not running a business, and that the dogs were kept for hobby purposes only.
  6. I live on a main road and our fence is chain wire, with brush wood stuck on top. When people stop and cause trouble, I just yell out (its loud with traffic, have to yell to be heard) please keep walking. They tend to. Sometimes its kids trying to cause trouble, but they still keep going.
  7. Agree its a combination of genes, breed, food, and good old fashioned luck. My eldest is a Lhasa Apso. He is 14 1/2 and has not been vaccinated since he was 2. He's never been fat. Just potters around twice a day, sleeps and eats. Same breed, same care, almost same bloodlines, I had to have my 10 year old baby girl PTS a month ago as she was sick with cancer. I have heard of a lot of Lhasa's living beyond 24 years.
  8. Robertson is considering trying out Neuter classes at their next show, so if they do, PLEASE support them so they continue to hold them. It will pick up pace as more people enter. I do not have a neuter to show at the moment, but I am trying to encourage all the clubs I work with to embrace the class. If the Open Neuter class becomes compulsory as per Toms motion, all the better I think. We will finally be on some sort of par with the cat world.
  9. I dont have pet insurance - 8 or 9 dogs, just tooooo expensive! I now have a CareCredit Card, which is for Medical/Dental/Veterinary expenses only. That's what the card is designed for. You can get interest free with it apparently, but I have not had to test it out as yet, and not entirely sure how that gets offered. It's through GE Money, and no its not a cheap % rate. But we dont have a normal credit card. Its ONLY for the dogs. And the minimum spend on it is $300. Even if I only had one or two pets, I would much prefer to put the money I'd pay in premiums, into a higher interest online savings account, and save that up for vet expenses. There are so many things that the may reject claims on, that I just dont think its value for money. Sure some people may save a lot of money, but by the sounds of it, a lot of people just pay a lot out and get nothing for their efforts.
  10. A breeder should always advise what the current diet is, BUT, thats a big jump to saying a guarantee will be null & void if you DONT feed a certain brand. It is one thing to make a recommendation, but another to hold you to ransom, so to speak. I personally would be finding another breeder. I dont do deposits at all, and a non refundable one will tie you to this breeder, even if you later change your mind or if there is nothing available for you.
  11. No you dont need a prefix in order to buy a bitch. Most people do it the other way. But then most people also dont just decide they want to be a breeder. It's something they come to after starting out showing their dogs. I am not sure you will get much help on DOL if you just plan to breed. You are better to start out with a show puppy, show her, see how you go, before you decide to breed. Its not as simple as it seems.
  12. My boy is allergic to chicken, but tolerates the chicken fat that is used in Nutro Lamb & Rice. He is doing so much better on this food than any other. Took me a long time to work out he is allergic to chicken though!
  13. I've found myself in a similar situation. A bitch I kept to breed on with, she came into "normal" season last when I was in hospital sick, and OH didnt realise. She would have been 2 and I was going to mate her. Since then she has had all sorts of weird and wonderful cycles, but none successful and suddenly she is 6 1/2, not had a litter and I am doubtful I will get anything from her. I have lost a line I have been working on for almost 20 years. In hindsight I should have just mated her early, might have avoided all this stress!
  14. A standard is not what causes a breed to be restricted, so I also do not understand the point. .
  15. I use soft crates in the back of my wagon. I also have a ledge that OH built, so that I can put a trolley underneath. When the crates are on the ledge, the two crates dont move an inch. If I have just one crate in there for a trip to the vet or something, I have to take care when going around bends. I have had it roll before LOL. I have tie downs I can use, but I dont think Fords have them. I dont like the cargo barrier because it limits how much you can fit in, plus the dog hair would be a bitch to get out of the carpet
  16. They have been taken over by Genetic Technologies I believe. It should say on their website.
  17. If you only want breast meat, then I would mince it myself. No guarentee that you will only get breast meat otherwise.
  18. I have Lhasa Apsos (smallest is 3kgs) and Keeshonds (average 15kgs). They are fine supervised together. They go into separate areas when I am not there. Only because accidents can happen. The Amstaff doesnt get to run with anyone, because he outweighs them all by at least double (over 30kgs), and some more so, but all the girls are in love with him and would give themselves to him in a flash
  19. It is a Best Before and not a Use By so it should be fine.
  20. Vets only sell Hills? So what is your point? No vet is going to stock a food that comes in 22kg bags when space is normally at a premium. They stock premium, vet only lines last time I checked. Just because a vet doesnt stock something does not mean they dont like it or vice versa. How many vets do you know that sell it? I can't name one. No rice based food is going to be optimal for a carnivore, no matter what you add to it. Only trial and error will tell you what your dog does best on but the general consensus is that there are way better products than Supercoat out there. You can also supplement a kibble diet with raw meaty bones and some decent EFA oil to improve the diet.
  21. I feed both Coprice (Family) and Great Barko. I alternate between the two, just depending on where I buy my food that week. The local Petbarn doesnt sell Great Barko, but if I am out near my mums place, her local does. I find them both great. The dogs like both, though I find a slight preference towards the Barko. If your dog needs to add weight, I would lean towards the Barko. If they need to loose or maintain weight, then Id lean towards the Coprice.
  22. Baby puppies cannot go into a catalogue without a number. No dog can in fact. I was very interested to note that when I judged in Victoria earlier this month, that not only are half the babies unregistered, but none of the dogs registration numbers were listed in the catalogue.
