tyra20007 I have been feeding BARF for over 15 years. I however respect other people's choices. You would be better off juicing the veggies btw. It breaks them down better. I also don't consider VAN to be part of a BARF diet. Just because people are feeding kibble does not mean that they don't know all the ins and out of BARF or the prey diet.

Both my old borders dropped a lot of weight at around 15yo and passed at 15 and a half. Old Fern had been quite porky due to a leg problem and dropped weight on no change of diet. I remember the first time I realised was when I went to pick her up for her bath and nearly shot her into the air as she weighed a heap less then I expected. Both still ate well up until the last week, although Fern stopped eating kibble.

I tried the clock thing too! So Ness did herding instead of obedience! lol

Sounds like you had a good time Piper Poppy is a slightly unusual Border in that she prefers to drive rather than fetch. She pretty much drove the sheep all around a started course at one stage, not on my command mind you! I finally got her to bring them back to me. Which in itself was pretty good as I was down by the pen and she took them right up and through the Z shute! We did start on our lefts & rights (sides?) but Mummy had a little bit of trouble with working out which way was which! It was making me dizzy! What a shame we are all in different states!!!

Ruby's Getting Good (update)

Good job Ruby! -
I am loving my pup's recalls! Here she is in mid flight:

No haven't found the lead yet. Have plenty more though I liked this lead because it is a bit shorter then the current leads. Brock is 4, Poppy is 2 and Amber is 6 months. Brock is fairly tragic at everything. He is a super soft, lovely natured dog. I tried herding and he was just not sure if he should be chasing the sheep. He would get his instinct certificate though. I got Poppy and she was well brilliant and I eased off on Brock's training as I preferred to work with Poppy. She is one of those really focused borders that would die for their handler. She is the most advanced in herding and obedience. She would also be better than Brock in agility. Amber has super strong instinct on sheep and looks like she will be a good obedience dog, she is less intense than Poppy. All 3 dogs do have the same attitudes to each of the sports. Brock is slow in all of them. Poppy is intense but inconsistent (but she is only 2). Amber is just a good girl! How do you find yours at the different sports? Poppy & Brock have the same dad btw.

3 dogs trained in herding yesterday, 3 in obedience today (the same 3!!). My head hurts! They are all at such different levels. Brock did his first CCD run through and it was his first go at obedience in 2 years. He did pretty well and actually seems steady enough to maybe get a pass. He is a super sook. All dogs behaved well both days You would have liked the social class I went in today for distraction Ptolomy. We had dogs weaving through the stays, prams, soft toys, squeaky things, furry objects being dragged along the ground right in front of the dogs. & horns! Poppy-I-am-scared-in-stays just sat there!!!

I just don't understand why people that think all kibble is crap jump on threads that are clearly about kibble. You don't feed kibble - good for you, leave people alone that do. Some very rude behavior demonstrated on here. Thank you the OP for the heads up on this food.

Mine howl at the local CFA siren. Which is sort of lucky as I can't really hear it and might need to one day!! It always cracks me up. They run and sit in the middle of the lawn and away they go. I like the shape their muzzles go when they howl. Very cute!!

Congrats Janba I haven't had a go on ducks yet, not sure what Poppy will think, don't think she will do any chomping but she also might not herd them. She doesn't take much notice of the ducks when we walk near them at training. Had a good clinic. Poppy is showing some nice work but we are a little inconsistent still. Amber had a go in the round yard and is showing really good instinct. She is a gutsy little thing and wasn't taking any crap from the sheepies. Out of all 3 of my dogs she stood up to the same bunch of sheep the most. Very cute. I even had a go with Brock, he showed a bit more interest today. He is very unsure but looks like he could be good if I can convince him that he can chase the sheep.

Good luck Janba.

Anyone Up For Training Tonight?
JulesP replied to Kavik's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Melbourne?? -
I can't find my fav training lead, not happy Jan. Oh and it is about 15 years old!
-
Tiggy you have to squish the lead below the stopper through the little ring. Rather than putting the handle bit through the ring. Does that make any sense?? It had me a bit confused too.

Hey FHRP, I have really lost motivation too this year and especially with the current pup. What I am really enjoying is going for walks, off lead walks by the river, taking the dogs to cafes. I am still going to obedience and herding but am really enjoying not being super serious. I read here and feel a bit guilty sometimes. Yesterday I had a crap training session because I really didn't want to be doing it. I don't care if my 5 month old pup doesn't heel! She loose lead walks beautifully but she doesn't have to look like she can pass CCD right now. Relax and enjoy your dogs!
-
I did a non compulsory herding title (HT) and both it and PT are listed on Poppy's papers - Braeloch Strike A Pose HT PT. So I assume they do the same with CCD & CD.
-
Herding in the sunshine just feels well - wrong! Needs to be rainy and misty But maybe that is because I am pom??
-
It did take ages to get my certificates - just to make you feel better!
-
Dunno. Herding is a different kind of fun to obedience, lol. Maybe you just feel like the herding type of fun at the moment??? I am off to a clinic on the weekend.
-
Yep $15 total fee.
-
Ok I lied. It is $15. But you do get your certificate, pedigree changed and a certificate gets sent to the breeder.
-
You return them in Vic too. Costs about $12. And they send a certificate to the breeder as well.
-
Thanks. That looks the same as the behind the back method?
-
Oh bedazzled..were are you??????? Ptolomy just looked on Fanny's blog for something else and noticed that she has video on there doing the 2x2 weaves method.
