  1. OMG another dog Ptolomy?? I am trying to convince myself that I don't need another dog to replace old Fern, that 3 borders under 4yo are quite enough. Doesn't help that my breeder has a new litter and here you are getting a dog!
  2. I feed kibble in the morning and meaty bones at night. Everyone seems to be healthy & happy.
  3. I wouldn't at first. The food has omegas in it. If your dog has a special need for it then you could later on or you could change to say the Anchovy kibble.
  4. Petstock have an Eagle Pack special on at the moment - 20% off. Goes until June 20.
  5. I go to Nyora for lessons. The group to contact is Vic Herding. http://www.vicherding.com/ The Digger's Rest Herding looks great too. Just depends on what side of the city you are on!
  6. I do feed super premium and bones. I feed twice a day. 1 meal is bones, other is super premium. I also feed sardines and the odd can of Natures Gift or some 4 Leggs. Currently using Eagle Pack but do think the dogs do better on Pro Plan. I would swap the Super Coat for Eagle Pack and gradually increase the kibble and cut down on the meat/veggies. They may not be impressed with kibble after yummy meat/veg! Are you cooking the meat/veggies in a stew? If you are you could try feeding it raw which will obviously cut down on cooking. I used a juicer for my veggies when I did BARF. You give them the juice and the pulp.

  8. The funny thing is that this is the sort of advice women have been giving each other for years! Manipulate to get what you want, rather than having a fight about it. A man does it though and all hell breaks loose. How many people here have rocked up with a pet that they know their male partner didn't really want? Or any other item? Not saying this man isn't a controlling, abusive freak, but I don't know if he is either. Just noticed blokes getting into trouble for things that we would be clapping a woman for doing (not the byb bit obviously!).
  9. Hard to answer without seeing it but this is what I would say to a friend that had this issue. I am feeling it is more of an age thing. I noticed at around 14yo my younger, super gentle border would try and pinch my old girls food. Younger border was around 3yo then. I just used to watch and make sure all was ok. I considered it to be normal dog behavior. The lady needs to be not patting either dog whilst they are bouncing around, so she needs to get them both to sit, at a decent distance apart. I would then be telling her to pat the younger dog first. If she feeds them all together, I would get her to feed the younger male first, give him treats first etc. Some lessons in body language would also be good so that she can learn to read the first signs. If she feeds them bones, she might need to separate the dogs when they eat them.
  10. If he is scared of big dogs then I do think it is fair enough that he wants little dogs. It would be equally bad of your daughter to get a pet that her partner didn't want.
  11. I have about an acre and it is an interesting acre. The dogs love it. They prefer to be out and keep themselves fairly busy. I love watching what they are up to. I did have borders on a smaller block but that was still about a third of an acre.
  12. A guy at Croydon makes a portable/easy to carry metal jump. Does it have to be a poly jump? The last one I got from him was $60.
  13. Thanks guys. Not sure what to do next - try ducks, B course or train for intermediate? What do you suggest? Oh and Dyzney is being super modest as she scored 97 to win the other started round. She also got a another good pass. So well on the way to her started title.
  14. Well just over a year since I started this thread and today Poppy got her Started title. She got a 95 (&1st) and a 93. Much better runs than her first go at Started. I'm pretty pleased considering I only planned to do HT with her. Maybe I'll do some training for Intermediate Thanks for all the encouragement from you guys too!
  15. A bit of a herding brag. Poppy got her Started title today. We had 2 passes - 95 & 93 and came first in one of them. Very pleased to get that title. There should be some more herding brags from DOL members too
  16. You could try Nutro Lamb & Rice. The Large Puppy does contain wheat. I've found Pro Plan Salmon good for itchy skin. Eagle Pack have an Anchovy one that is also supposed to be good for itchy skin. How old and what breed is the pup though?
  17. Very scary bedazzled. Glad you are both ok. I live in the very beautiful Yarra Valley but can't walk my dogs around here due to the guard dogs. Most of the time they are well contained but when they do get out it is very scary. Last time I walked out one was out and came across the road in prey mode. No growling, no barking, no hackles up, just stalk and then attack. I had no where to go. Poor Brock didn't even fight back. My screaming got the owners out of the house. The neighbors dogs got out once and bailed me up in the house. Other neighbors have maremmas that live out in the paddock. They have also got out before. Used an umbrella once to poke one back into their garden, lol. Don't fancy walking the borders past that property.
  18. It was quite clearly a discussion on a particular dry dog food that was hijacked by overly zealous raw feeding people. I am objecting to that and I feed raw! Just getting really sick of raw people butting into the kibble threads.
  19. I am lucky enough to have a couple of acres so I don't walk as such, I stand in the paddock and watch the dogs go nuts. I don't feel too bad if they miss out on the paddock romp as I have a massive garden. In the rain I just stand under a tree. I'm supposed to be going to obedience tonight but it is freezing, think I will stay home and make soup
  20. This is a serious discussion and you made no indication that you were attempting to make a joke. I've heard less logical justifications for feeding commercial food than that. No this is a discussion about a certain type of kibble. It is not a discussion about Barf or prey diet.
  21. I personally would prefer my dogs not to look like wild dogs They usually look like they could do with a feed and I imagine the wild dogs would be most happy with a bit of kibble.
