This vet has a cat too that just wanders around. It is a total hazard getting in and out of the place.

Why do people let their vets go up to other pets in a vet's waiting room? why? My dog could have parvo for all they know. So stupid. I've just had to be quite umm firm again with some idiots. And this included the staff who had a little dog loose in the waiting room. As I walked in I was told not to worry about it, I had to point out that my dog might be sick so get the other dog away! And do not even get me started on the total lack of training or manners displayed! I need a drink!

What's Something Universally Mildly Aversive?

A vet gave me some stuff years ago to put on wounds. It is dimethyl pthalate. The dogs certainly do not like that! -
What's Something Universally Mildly Aversive?
JulesP replied to corvus's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Victoria Stilwell (Its Me or the Dog) used to use a loud noise as an aversive. I seem to remember her having a gadget that let off a loud siren when a dog went near it. Think it was for a dog that was counter surfing. There are also high frequency sound gadgets to keep possums away. -
Looking For A High Quality Australian Kibble

Clyde I've fed quite a number of bags of the food that Collies02 has. The dogs have done well on it. -
If I was teaching a heap of dogs to tug I would want gloves on. Just seems to be common sense to me.

You will have a great time dyzney. I am trying to decide if I will hike up for a private lesson.

It is interesting that I struggled to get Poppy to offer behavior. Just had very long staring contests, lol. But out on sheep she totally changes and it is like 'no idiot I need to do this', she is usually right too! Brock was the same. But Amber will try some different things. I haven't done anything different with Amber so maybe the dog's personality plays a big part in shaping. Something I got from my clinic with the US herding trainer was waiting for the dog to figure it out. Not just wait a little bit and resort to luring.

Australian Made, Premium Dog Foods?
JulesP replied to Fourjays's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Found the website - http://www.kylainknls.com/food.htm I've feed a heap of bags of both the puppy and adult with no issues. I get mine from Discount Animal Supplies on Warburton Highway, Lilydale. -
Have a great time Dova! Sure you will. She is really nice. I am sulking that we only get this time with her as I would like permanent lessons. Which dog are you taking? She is very interesting in Coolies! Oh and hope you get better weather!

I'm waiting on a sample. Am a bit stressed about feeding due to problems with other imported foods in the past.

Australian Made, Premium Dog Foods?

Yeah it has nice ingredients. It is collies02 that is involved. Last time we talked about it seemed available in most states. I pay $69 for it here. 20kg bag I think. -

Pro Plan doesn't seem to have dropped in price now it is being made here. I've questioned a couple of reps and have got evasive answers too. Rice is usually imported from overseas. There is a food called Holistic that is in a plain white plastic bag. I use that a fair bit. It is made in Australia. A person involved with it is a DOL poster. Will see if I can find the website. -

Cheap Dog Run/enclosure Options Melbourne
JulesP replied to Snowball's topic in General Dog Discussion
Mine was around $450 a couple of years back from a fence builder. It is 2 x 4 meters and chain mesh. Ebay has them for around the $600 mark too. Then you would need to put pavers down or concrete. -
I guess they want to know were the dog is now. if he is ok. If it is a nice home.

Think it is up to the council. My council, Yarra Ranges, it it dogs on a leash unless in a designated off leash area. There are no dog areas too.

I had trouble with the GB. I think because of the wheat. Was rather disappointed. -
The yielding was an exercise to get a nice shaped circle in the flanking and to stop the dog from walking into the flight zone of the sheep. Was done using a plastic bag on the end of a dressage whip. The whip is pointed at the dog's nose and tapped on the ground. Aim being the dog moves away from the bag/pressure. If you are familiar with any natural horsemanship stuff it was very similar to that.

There have also been some problems with imported dog foods. Pro Plan is being switched over to be made in Australia. Check the bags as some is made here now. For Australian owned you could look at Nature's Gift and Great Barko/Uncle Albers. -
Congrats Janba! I'm just back from the clinic with Trudi. It was very good, she is a great instructor. Very cluey about dogs in general. We all mainly worked on the basics - balance point, flanks & starting some driving. Poppy was a good girl. She did most of the exercises well. Wasn't at all thrilled with the yielding exercise though! The funniest thing was Trudi's face when she saw Poppy. I had forgotten that the borders in the US look a bit different. Trudi was very taken by Poppy look! She liked Amber too but thought that she was an English Shepherd! Definitely worth doing but I think I am going to be frustrated now as I would like a teacher like that all the time!

I just used some treats to entice them up. Once they had gone up once they were fine. Maybe try and get them walking up it on the ground first and then slowly raise the height.

Food Intolerance And Elimination Diets

They don't seem to be the sort of veggies that normally cause problems? I found this chart that might help. http://www.healthalternatives2000.com/vege...tion-chart.html -
No the lame dog was not lame by the next morning and continues to be not lame. Thanks for the concern.

Thank you. It is quite distressing having unwell pets.
