  1. What he said. I reward with what the dog wants. If Erik wants to jump all over me in greeting, he needs to sit or down first. He uses it to "ask" for me to invite him to jump all over me. He has a very cute "I'm downing, could I please jump on you for a cuddle and a tickle?" look. I'm a bit slack about doors and only enforce it when I first come home. Erik downs and Kivi sits or the door doesn't get opened. It stays open a lot when I'm home. Almost nothing is rewarded exclusively with food, but almost everything is rewarded with food much of the time. OK but you have sort of made it sound like you carry food around everywhere and reward the dog with food for everything. I have no idea what you are actually doing to be honest.
  2. Say you will go. Check it out and if you don't like it just don't go.
  3. Ok you want your dogs to sit before you open a door. The dogs know what sit means. Would you reward that sit with food?
  4. If I had walked away and the other dog followed me I would have been less then polite if the other owner had yelled at me.
  5. Cool, sounds like I can go to bed a bit earlier then! I do normally get up once a night and as the loo is outside it is fairly easy to put her out too. She was not interested in going out in the cold last night and I can't say I blamed her! It is a bit of a novelty, having a dog that likes to sleep in as none of the others have liked it! Brock and Poppy were very huffy when I made them sleep in when Amber was little. The cats are in the kitchen too and they think Amber is pretty good to have around. Very cute!
  6. No it is not the same product. Pro Plan is the top of the range in their product line. Purina One is sold in supermarkets.
  7. Amber didn't even want to go out last night when I got up, lol. The cats wake me up scratching the door but there is not a peep out of her.
  8. Pup is 7 months. She has been really good. Think she enjoys being in. I usually go to bed about 10.30 and get up at 8.30 with at least one loo trip (sorry tmi)!
  9. For people that have their dogs in the house over night what time do you go to bed and get up? This is assuming that the dogs are in crates and can't go out to the loo through a doggie door. I've had my pup in for the last couple of nights but I am getting rather tired as I am going to bed later and getting up earlier to reduce the time she is in the house.
  10. Found a Pro Plan rep in a shop and asked her. The Aussie version isn't out yet. Will be soon and the Breeder's bag will be the first to change over. She wasn't sure of the change in ingredients as the reps haven't been told. It will be different though. It will be the carbs that are different. She said if we don't like it to write in and complain! They apparently adjusted the new adult version after complaints.
  11. I am not that keen on walking around in bush by myself! I've been going to Warrandyte a fair bit lately, that is pretty good. The dogs love it. Another nice doggie outing, although not techncally offlead is the Warby trail. There is also now a cafe in Seville that has outside (under cover) tables that is dog friendly (and horse friendly). It is called the Carriage Cafe. Have been enjoying going there with the pooches, bit of a stroll up the trail and then pig out on scones!!!
  12. Came back in. Dogs not on beds again. 2 girls down playing with the pony. Fence fix appears to be holding. Pony helpfully standing with nose just out of reach so both girls can jump up and down and try and bite him! Yell at them, they stop. Dogs still not on beds. Brock has jumped out. I go out, he jumps in. They all seem really unsettled. Very strange.
  13. I was sitting here reading this 30 mins ago when I thought 'umm it is a bit quiet', went out and Amber was outside trying to get back in. This at 11.00 with me home. I took the other dogs outside and put her in. After a shitload of drama which involved 1 bucking 2yo pony, 2 BC who were umm trying to help, and me screaming like a fish wife I finally found were Amber is getting out at the moment. Looks like it was the pony that was the draw to get out. There are little dig marks all along his yard. Right now there are quite a number of animals that I would enjoy seeing get zapped!
  14. Is doggy OK SamMan? I keep checking in to see if there is an update.
  15. Electric fence to wet head = me sitting on my arse
  16. Maybe because dogs aren't flight animals? I've never seen a horse stand and just zapped. They tend to bolt off. But I have seen a dog sit there and get zapped again and again. He just didn't understand. Also there is the size/weight difference between a cow/horse and dog. A good zap can knock me to the ground and my dogs are less then half my weight.
  17. Brock manages to get out and then back in by jumping over the mesh but under the wire. This is not a very big gap! Still not sure what to do. Was thinking about a ping string and moving it around. The dogs are all really soft and I reckon it would only take one zap for them to not go near the fences.
  18. Think we need a indoor agility place this side of town!
  19. My dogs got itchy on GB. Which was a shame as I wanted to buy an Australian product. I had previously been feeding either EP or Proplan.
  20. Except in a lot of places you aren't allowed to keep stock on a suburban block. I am on 4 acres so it isn't really an issue.
  21. Had Amber inside last night, which she does seem to like! Not sure it is good for my sleep though, lol. Which is why I was up this morning when the neighbors dog came over for its morning piss on my rubbish bin! Amber was out and apart from lots of barking, everyone stayed in their yard.
  22. Very disappointed with some comments elsewhere.
  23. Wow. IMO very unethical. ETA: I guess the diff with BC is Merle isn't a main colour so really no need to go there.
  24. Think we can get something called a ping string which is for smaller animals. Found it last time I had this problem. I would re-fence a yard inside the garden if I could work out a way to do it. My house has a veranda all the way around apart from one side. Makes it a bit tricky to have a natural 'back' yard. I would like this for when people come around too and it might keep the entrance way a bit cleaner.
