  1. Perhaps the neighbours should be keeping their pup away from the fence.
  2. How about humming to keep the stride the same. Hum constantly though obviously, lol. I am currently using some homemade treats that I got from a market, they are a liver loaf. Not too icky in the hand. I also don't train with a lead and will have to do some practice for CCD, if I decide to do it. It has been years since I have been in an obedience ring so I should go in for that reason but am worried about unstable dogs in the stays. I need to get hold of a video camera!
  3. I walk mine down too and attach the lead with as little interaction as possible. This is also how I catch them for baths, lol. Once I have the puppy on lead I will then do a couple of onlead recalls with suitable praise. The naughty horses got to do groundwork! Actually I've had to catch the cats like this a couple of times too! (well lots of times!)
  4. I taught Poppy to back for agility using a treat so perhaps you could try that? Treat under nose and move hand into the dog. Hand needs to be under chin so that dog backs with its head down.
  5. Driving - sheep away from me. I've got 2 more started passes to get and then I am going to be buggered. Plus Poppy spent one of her started go rounds driving which caused a bit of a problem. If the sheep are super quiet and well behaved she stays in a fetch position. If they are a bit flighty she starts driving but drives them were ever at the moment! (usually into a fence were she is then happy!!!)
  6. As in driving. Everyone seems to have different terminology for this stuff.
  7. Our new Rotti herders are most welcome in this thread
  8. Prime do raw loaves. I don't mind the Ecopet loaves either.
  9. How did you guys teach your left and rights?
  10. I had a really good recall on my pup by 12 weeks. She has so far, at 5 months old, never not recalled. And gosh does she come in fast . Love watching her fly in.
  11. No it didn't gradually creep in - she did it from day one! Totally spun me out too. I need to video it. I have not seen any pup react like this. I get her to sit for her dinner but release her straight away. She turns her head totally away too.
  12. Jesomil I find that comment rather rude. And the sort of comment that to be honest is really putting me off any sort of comment in this forum. I just don't think that sort of 'pissing contest' is needed or helpful. You say it is not about attacking but with that one line you have basically put down the majority of people on this thread.
  13. Your dogs might end up having a 100% recall but the only time you can say that with any certainty is the day they die. Until then you simply never know what might crop up. I always think that humility in dog or any animal training is a good thing.
  14. You don't have to send in your paperwork for our CCD if you don't want to I nearly didn't for my HT but then thought bugger it I want the certificate. Have an interesting problem with my pup. She is super submissive about food. No idea why. No human has given her a hard time about it but ask her to wait for her dinner and she is on her back squirming. This is also translating into her wait/stays. If I am not super careful she is on her back. I am just trying to be super cheerful and tell her how good she is and not asking for too long. She isn't super submissive in other areas so it is weird. I normally do TOT but haven't with her as I don't like the distress. Any ideas?
  15. Not sure why anyone wouldn't want 100% control of their dogs Maybe I am just a control freak.
  16. Had an interesting recall/come issue yesterday. Brock (4yo BC) has been sad because his friend died this week and the younger 2 aren't playing with him. As a treat I thought I would bring him in to sit with me in the dining room. He has been taught not to leave the kitchen. He would not come into the dining room. Not even with a firm recall command. So the don't leave the kitchen command was obviously stronger. I had to put him on lead to get him into the dining room!
  17. Just looked at Poppy's papers because we did an optional class in herding (HT) and yes both herding titles are there HT & PT.
  18. Here is my border pup stalking her friend. Eski fetches the ball, Amber stalks Eski! Both are happy. I can only see it being a problem if the sheep/dog didn't appreciate being stalked.
  19. When I was a groomer I went out to a new client. Nice lady, 2 nice older dogs (10+). I nearly died when I found out that I was washing them because she was re-homing them. Why? They were moving and the new house didn't have fences. What the? Very upsetting. At least she re-homed rather than dumped them at the pound.
  20. Lilydale Petstock have the mini puppy in stock. It really depends on what ingredients you want to see in the dog or not in the food as to how good they are. And why. I try to avoid wheat as my doggies itch a bit when fed food with that in it. The best food is the one that your dogs do best on. For me that is Pro Plan Lifestyle or Sensitive Skin. They don't have major problems with any of the foods you mentioned but they just bloom a bit more on the Pro Plan. ETA: I can't be bothered with foods I have to order. I did try Artemis and found it a pain to get hold of. So that also effects what I buy.
  21. I've been fairly smug about my dog's recalls. They are border collies that I recall from moving prey (bunnies, sheep) and other dogs. I have however found their weakness - people sitting down having picnics. They do recall but it is not as easy as usual and if I don't notice the people in time, they do get a lick in. oppps.
  22. Glad she is feeling better.
