  1. My club trains at an off lead area. So I can sort of see why some people may feel the need to walk through as a statement. Or maybe they are just plain thoughtless!
  2. You got the odd person at my club too that is determined to walk through on club day.
  3. If you see someone with a dog that you like the look of stop them and ask some questions. Most people are happy to chat about their dogs! I was super impressed with the lady that stopped me and wanted a border collie but went with the breed I suggested instead!
  4. I got 2 dogs :) My dogs don't go on the couch btw. I trained them to go to their beds and they stay there apart from coming over for the odd pat. I don't want dog hair etc on my couch!
  5. You can cross pit bulls off your list as they are not allowed in Victoria. Do you think you can cope with the mess that dogs create? There will be slobber, vomit, hair, poo etc etc. If you have a small backyard then any grass may get churned up.
  6. I think you are going to have to wait it out. The coconut oil might soften it enough that you can show her now. Not sure if that is the aim. My border collie girl did a massive coat drop after an illness issue. Like it looked like I had clipped her. Her coat was horrible and coarse. A couple of months later and it is all soft again. The top of her coat looked similar to your girl's coat. I did feel like she was having a reaction to Aloveen at the time too as she was worse after I washed her.
  7. Get some coconut oil, the stuff you cook with. It is usually quite solid unless you live in a warm place. Rub it in your hands to warm it up. Smooth it on to the dry coat. Leave on for as long as you can before washing. That is probably the cheapest oil. Other oils would be jojoba, argan, avocado.
  8. Have you tried oil? You could try coconut oil as a pre-treatment to bathing. Even err mayonnaise is good for coats, on the dog not fed to the dog! I would also try and wrap the dog a bit to get some warm in there to help the oil get into the coat.
  9. Sure she doesn't just have a rough coat? I read the standard it said some have a longer coat. I would expect the breed to have a coarser coat as it would need to be water resistant. I was at a Border Collie club day once and the judge had hysterics because the dogs all had too soft coats. He told everyone off for using conditioner! And brushing out undercoat!
  10. What breed is she? She might be supposed to have a coarser coat.
  11. Yeah I went through a stage like this. Lots of pets that all got old at the same time. It was traumatic. I had 2 old dogs and an old cat pass in a short period of time and then lost a younger dog from an accident and then had to have a young cat PTS. And another dog diagnosed with a terminal illness. I did them all a bit differently. One dog didn't like the vets so I had him PTS at home. The other dog loved the vets so she went to them, luckily I had a friend come with me for that one. My old cat passed in her sleep. My younger dog died in the car on the way to the emergency vets. I couldn't stay with the younger cat, I was too traumatised at that stage. I would have stayed if I felt I would be a comfort to him but didn't think he really cared about my presence. I do regret not staying though. One of the worst things was filling in all the council rego forms to say they had passed away. Blubbering mess btw. Picking up ashes - also blubbering mess. Have trouble reading the rainbow bridge section of the site now. And it all pretty much comes back when someone else loses a pet now. They do leave their paw prints on your heart.
  12. Registered purebred breeders flying puppies interstate is not unusual.
  13. Yes I have to take my dog i for 6 monthly checkups. Yes it is a bit annoying when you are doing palliative care and especially if you are paying a bit for medicines etc. Neither the dog or I get any value out of it but the vets seem to think it is interesting due to her condition not being very common. They talked me into bloods once which was also annoying when I found out how much it cost. it isn't like they can do anything else for her if she got xxx result in her bloods. And yes I understand that things like this can upset you when you are dealing with a palliative care dog. Hugs to you and Polly.
  14. Try putting one of the other dogs in their crate next to her as a doggy sitter.
  15. My thoughts are with you Lisey.
  16. You do realise that people were yelling at us for our dogs weeing? Would like to see you scoop up a wee.
  17. Both my borders pee like that and I have had someone scream out a window at me. Had to explain she was a girl and was weeing.
  18. The ANKC herding days are really interesting as you get to see how a variety of different breeds herd.
  19. She's a forum member. She also does dog training, think she has a problem dog class. In Wallan. http://www.alfoxton.com.au/
