  1. It is the specialist who said not to spey her unless it was an emergency. Yes and I'd be speaking with them again and asking if they are truly happy with that decision should she end up with a reoccurence and pyo and having to go under then - I wouldn't be. It was after an infection that the convo was had. Not sure you fully understand the situation. I might not but I am speaking from experience. Amber has multiple liver shunts. She was supposed to die 5 years ago. She could die at any second from liver failure. If she goes under a general she may not wake up as her liver is stuffed. Even treating her with medications is a dicey business if the medication is processed via the liver. As long as she wants to be here I'll help her.
  2. She ate some breakfast and had some drink (pediasure) for lunch. She is a bit quiet. No discharge and abdomen doesn't appear to be swollen or hot.

  5. She came and hassled me this morning whilst I was having my cuppa in bed, first time in a week! Ate a little bit of breakfast, went for a short walk and then came and asked for lunch! Fingers crossed the antibiotics totally clear it up. Get up Mum!
  6. You can use some surgical gauze wrapped around your finger too. Also good for ear cleaning!
  7. Cause she isn't eating her electrolytes will drop, her sugar will drop, so you add the electrolyes to her water. The electrolytes give her what she normally gets from food & will make her start feeling better... Thanks but she can not have this due to other medical conditions.
  8. She ate some chicken with baby food dressing for dinner.
  9. My normal vets have got that info from Melb Specialists.
  10. Got some brie and water crackers and she agreed to eat some crackers! I've been pretending to sit outside and 'eat' in the hopes of tricking her into eating some of 'my' food but obviously she wasn't fooled. She seems a little better. The discharge has stopped but not sure if that is a good thing or not. Maybe it all came out yesterday. I now have to consider the fact that the chances are high that she will get this again. But if I get her desexed she may not make it through the surgery. Or she could die from her liver condition before it can happen again. Dogs with her condition just don't normally make it this long so it is rather uncharted waters for everyone. If she had a closed pyometra and it was a try surgery or she dies then I would do the surgery. Hard to send a bright looking dog into surgery knowing she might not wake up.
  11. I have said she is drinking. Drinking a lot is a) a symptom of pyometra and b) she has been on diuretics.
  12. I can't say that my dogs have had a preference for any particular crate. I prefer the K9+ crates as I find them the easiest to fold etc. Both my dogs love their crates, I have one set up all the time and one of the dogs will usually choose to be sleeping in there.
  13. She ate a tiny bit last night but didn't want to eat again this morning. I used some baby food in a squeezy tube to force feed her. The squeezy tube works really well for this for future reference if anyone else needs to do this. She did then lick some off my hand. Poppy thinks this is all the best thing ever as she gets some food each time too and gets to clean up the food Amber spits out!
  14. Diet is out of the window. I've even tried BBQ chicken. she ate some yesterday but will not today. And I got a cooked sausage from a sausage sizzle., she had some of that yesterday. Tried 4 Leggs. Tried yogurt. She ate a little bit of cheese before. Tried Good-Os, her fav thing in the world. Not sure I would be eating either if I had the same stuff coming out of me as she has. At least it isn't green!
  15. She is refusing her special drink too and I tried some recovery food mixed to liquid form. We went and saw Moss today. Very cool they are open on a Sunday. I said you had referred me. i liked him a lot.
  16. Oh and funnily I was supposed to go and have some tests on my heart this week and couldn't be bothered. The dog is sick and I am straight at the vets!
  17. I can't get her to eat which is freaking me out a bit. Have tried my normal sneaky ways and not even roast chicken is working. Have spooned some slop into her mouth much to her disgust.
  18. Well she has Endometritis. We have caught it fairly early so are currently treating with a couple of antibiotics in an effort to stave off full blown pyometra. She is currently refusing to eat anything but still appears fairly bright. It is lucky that I keep such an eagle eye on her. Can see how these early stages could be missed. The fear is that she will keep getting these infections and she is only supposed to be speyed as an emergency procedure. And super timing of it being a long weekend.
  19. Amber went off her food early last week and by Thursday didn't want to eat at al. Not a super unusual occurrence due to her liver shunts but concerning as she has no weight to lose. She went to the vets for her yearly check up on Thursday and nothing seemed greatly amiss. Friday she still wasn't eating so the vet gave her an anti-nausea tablet. I've been basically hand feeding her tiny amounts of food. Last night she looked unsettled so I did debate taking her to the emergency vet but last time they couldn't do much for her. This morning she has a vaginal discharge (reddy/cream). So I am now freaking out more than normal. She has a vet appointment in 30 mins. She seems not happy but fairly bright and trotting around. If this is Pyometria then that is a bit of a problem treatment wise. Surgery is risky and so is the hormone treatment.
  20. Amber has been on metronidazole.for over 5 years.
  21. Weird you can't do any of those things MonElite. I've got 2 cafes within walking distance were I can take the dogs and sit outside. Most cafes that have outside seating seem cool about it, not that I have tried in the city. Any Melbourne folks go into the city or inner burbs with their dogs? Some of the places I've gone to with the dogs I've been a bit surprised that I could take them. I've been ticking off all the local places near me that allow dogs. The dogs have had to pose for a lot of photographs for tourists
  22. I've had one of my worst incidents after flaxseed consumption
  23. IBS - we have no idea what is wrong IBD - group of diseases that cause inflammation of the stomach/intestines ie Crohns in people I would say food causes more issues with IBS and stress is also a factor. Rather than the stomach being inflamed the bowels will contract slower and quicker. So something like valium can ease the contractions in IBS. IBD needs steroids is help with the inflammation. It is possible to have both.
  24. Does your dog have IBD or Skin Problems?? Meals For Mutts is nothing like Black Hawk, Black Hawk isn't Gluten free or a Hypoallergenic kibble.... Black Hawk was bought out by an NZ company & went down hill since being sold B/H ingredients are of lower quality now & made a few dogs very unwell, Black Hawk is similar to supermarket kibble VIP Natural Goodness... Go on MFM Face Book page & have a look at all the dogs that have had health problems & now haven't got itchy yeasty skin or bowel problems...Have a look at all the dogs coming first in competitions. MfM was the only kibble that helped my boy with his IBD, Food sensitivities & itchy smelly skin, ears & red paws, Patches vets were shocked when I brought Patch back to see them after eating MfM for 1 month, he gained weight, skin cleared up & doing firm small poos & not reacting to what he was eating... Now Patches vet feeds MfM for her IBS dog & her other healthy dog & her patients dogs after seeing a big improvement with Patch, I was about to put Patch to sleep, so I emailed MfM & Bill their vet nutritionist Bill email me back explaining what was happening with Patches intestinal tract.. Meals For Mutts is 100 times better then any Vet Diet look at the ingredients in any vet diet, Hills being the worst, look at all the carbs.. Well obviously I would not be writing in here if my dogs didn't have problems. Both dogs coats deteriorated and Poppy's ear infection came back. Black Hawk is gluten free unless you would like to say that oats contain gluten. I am not even a fan of Black Hawk but a simple look at the ingredients lists shows they are pretty similar products. Hills has kept my dog alive for 5 years and she has a much more serious condition,
