  1. Last time you asked about breeds you said that there was someone at home all the time. Isn't that the case now? You aren't giving the people reading this enough info :) Have your parents said OK to a dog now?
  2. It would be far easier if she wasn't so chirpy. If she was laying down all the time looking miserable.
  3. Great to see common sense prevail and you need to stay positive and not allow all those negative thoughts to keep coming up. She will be fine. I hope you aren't implying that my common sense was lacking! I was going on vet advice. I think it was the repro vets at Monash that insisted she be desexed. Plus my vets sort advice from some American vet forum. It really was not an easy decision for them to make.
  4. Up to about $1600 for Amber this year.
  5. Yeah I don't want to add up Amber's vet bill.
  6. How has it come to that much if they haven't been sick? Poppy has cost about $300.
  7. That was my diagnosis but didn't want to say! The liver is amazing at repairing itself and the milk thistle is really good for helping. Did your vet give you diet info? metrogyl tastes blerk btw so you might have trouble getting her to eat that in food. Hope she is feeling better soon and you too!
  8. I got a sample Sheena and spoke to them at Dog Lovers. It is the same company that makes Coprice and other horse feeds. They were totally open about that, probably the first thing they said to me. I imagine that it is too new for many people to have used yet. There were a number of new foods at Dog Lovers.
  9. I think I need to stop looking at it like I have a choice. Her seasons have been dodgy for ages now. She had that 'season' that lasted for months and months.
  10. They are worried about it reoccurring and that she might have a closed one.
  11. Pretty stressed as I know there is a chance she will not wake up. They think this is her best chance though. However they still might not do the op if her bloods are dodgy.
  12. After consulting with various specialists the vets want to Spey her next week.
  13. She asked for seconds at breakfast! Don't think she has ever done that. Even when she is 'well' she usually leaves a few bit of kibble in her bowl, much to Poppy's delight.
  14. And she just popped up at the window to tell me to get up! (she doesn't do that when she is really sick). Amazing how quickly the antibiotics work. She had 2 injections yesterday + she has the tablets. Wish mine worked so quickly! But then mine only cost $5 and hers were $200!
  15. Both times I've taken her to the vet I've said goodbye to her as I didn't know if they would want to operate and whether she would wake up from it.
  16. She is still pretty bright. Got her to eat a reasonable amount.
  17. The pyometra is back. Open again luckily. Specialist emergency vets were called and said to treat medically still. Current treatment is a months worth of antibiotics. Vet is calling other specialists on Monday. She is pretty bright still. Scoffed some liver treats in the vets I am a wreck. Called the vets and pretty much couldn't get anything out. Luckily they know me and said just come in straight away.
  18. And I think it has come back. She was a bit strange on Thursday night but normal on Friday morning. Didn't want to eat much Friday night and doing some licking. Looked uncomfortable this morning and is licking like crazy. Has some discharge. Waiting for the vets to open.
  19. Female dogs on heat are often very much different to what they are when not on heat .they dont call em bitches for nothing. A nice quiet easy going girl starts to focus on nothing more than getting a male dog etc. Around here I know about a week before any of my girls come on heat because they start being more assertive with each other over meals and attention. Mine just get very sooky.
  20. Not entirely sure what the ALT is at the moment. Bloods done monday, they're "normal" but ive not seen them. Didn't you get a result of 296 U/L?
  21. His ALT is actually higher than Amber's. But I've certainly seen dogs with much, much higher ALT readings. You need to be feeding highly digestible protein to give his liver a break. I wouldn't be feeding the Zwipeak at all. I would be looking to keep the protein % to under 25. He might not cope with L/D due to allergies. So I would suggest things like cottage cheese, yogurt, egg whites. Low fat white fish (eg cod) might be ok. I've been feeding the VIP to Amber with no ill effects apart from her currently refusing to eat it.
  22. Different councils have different registration requirements though. Mine does give discounts for entire obedience trained dogs or for VCA members.
  23. So far so good Snook. Thanks for asking!
