For All The Unethical (But Responsible) Dog Owners ...
JulesP replied to Willem's topic in General Dog Discussion
Something people could watch for, prior to the bitch actually getting pyometra would be weird seasons. Or barely there seasons. Amber's have always been odd, which may be her or may be her other condition (liver shunts). I don't know if there is any connection with her other condition and Pyometra as dogs with her condition don't tend to live long enough for it to become a problem. Whilst her bloods aren't normal they aren't really tragic and she isn't prone to getting other sicknesses. Of course other dogs could be operated on with less stress. -
My thought was it is similar to Meals for Mutts and the MFM was a bit cheaper.

Prime Sk-D200™ Crocodile And Tapioca
JulesP replied to mumtoshelley's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I feed Poppy heaps less then the recommended of the Prime rolls. She is only getting about 100-150g + half a cup of kibble and she weighs 25k. -

The symptoms of pyometra are actually rather subtle. That people wouldn't pick it up straight away would not surprise me. And if the pyometra was closed then that could prove a massive risk to the bitch. So I suggest people learn the symptoms if they have an entire bitch. My bitch was just off her food. No decrease in energy etc. And she then started to lick her bits more than normal. She didn't even have a high temp. -
Super Pet, Chirnside sell it (in case you didn't know :) )

Breeder Policies On Puppy Deposits, Partial Payments, Etc
JulesP replied to HELLBOY's topic in General Dog Discussion
The right thing to do is not always the same as the legal thing to do :) If it was me as the breeder and you were sick I would return your deposit. I may keep a small amount if I needed to re-advertise or something if you had pulled out at the last minute. I had someone pull out of a puppy sale for a really dumb reason (she didn't like the puppy's markings despite seeing her a couple of times) I would NOT have returned her deposit but I hadn't taken one. -
Identifying Collection Of Am Bulldogs On Property
JulesP replied to _PL_'s topic in General Dog Discussion
Reading through the posts under each dogs photo I was rather alarmed by the amount of people that had lost dogs and were hoping it was theirs. So many dogs lost/stolen -
Poppy is being very good. Laying quietly with Amber and helping to demonstrate how to use a ramp after I realised Amber hadn't actually been up it before. It was one of those 'lassie' moment were she saw me having trouble and came over and gave Amber a lick and then went up and down the ramp for me.

She seems pretty good. Is eating and drinking. She is wanting to scratch and lick a fair bit but think she is trying to lick the shaved bits rather than the actual wound. She is rather private about toileting so that is a bit of an issue as I have to let her off the lead. She is then hiding in bushes to have a lick session! I am really knackered!

For All The Unethical (But Responsible) Dog Owners ...

i'm not in NSW but it states quite clearly on the membership form that Associate members can not apply for a prefix. And you need to be a member for 12 months. I don't think it is particularly hard to become a ANKC breeder. http://www.dogsnsw.org.au/breeding/how-to-become-a-breeder.html I don't know why you have quoted me Are you trying to say it is hard? I've obviously just looked up the NSW rules so I assume you aren't just giving me the info. -

The vets were great and sent a nurse out here today to take out her catheter and give her a check over. She goes to see a vet on Friday for a check too. Her gums are a little pale but they were pale anyway. She has eaten, had a drink and a wee. Going to have fun with the stitches as she really does not like the cone! We have both been napping much of the day.
-
She wanted to go for a walk this morning though! Poppy gave me a heart attack too when she wouldn't eat this morning! But it was only because I had put her food in Amber's bowl and she knows she isn't supposed to eat from there.
-
She is on tramadol,
-
I didn't get much sleep. The pain meds must have worn off at about 4.00am and she was a bit distressed when I checked her. Gave her more meds and settled her down. She did a couple of wees in her bed and has eaten this morning. Doesn't want to drink and is quite zonked out still. Probably should have used an easier to wash bed last night as how I have a thick foam one to wash.
-
She is home! Off her tree on narcotics!
-
She needs to be off the drip apparently. She has to have different painkillers. The principal vet said if she woke up etc that it would then be no different from a normal spey. I think the other vets are a little anxious, lol. It is nice they care so much. Normally I would be quite confident about looking after her.
-
Is that best for her though?
-
They are monitoring her until 5 to see if she can come home or if they think she needs to go to an overnight place. I'm almost tempted just to send her to the overnight place (for me as much as her!) but I know she would rather be home.
-
Amber got through the surgery and has woken up (took a bit longer than normal).

Arthritis - Whats Best For An Old Dog?
JulesP replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Does she have fish/seafood allergies? That would be the only thing I would be concerned about with joint supplements. -

I found keeping the area warm helped with my last oldie. -
Some horse floats have the sprayed on rubber so you could look up float manufacturers near you and see if they know were to get it done. Would also have non slip rubber.
-
I know "there there, chin up love" wont help - but the positive there is you don't have to worry about missing work to be with her. That would be true if I had worked in an office or had set hours

There are 2 risks during surgery itself. 1 - the GA - this is processed through the liver and she just might not wake up 2 - a clotting risk, her bloods have indicated that her clotting is ok and I'll have Poppy on stand by for a blood transfusion. Then just small things like her having little body fat so she could get too cold and they need to think about what painkillers she can have. Principal vet is confident but can't obviously give a 100% guarantee. They have all the protocol from the specialists and I think this American forum. They are having a vet monitor her GA If she pulls through the surgery then afterwards he liver might not be great. But without the infection her whole system should be better. We don't know when she will die from the liver condition anyway, that could be any day. And as everyone tells me she is on borrowed time as it is. It is just really bad timing with me being sick too. And being retrenched isn't helping either. .
