  1. Get your dog desexed and abort the puppies. Treat the ear infection. Get the dog allergy tested as the ear infection is most likely caused by allergies.
  2. I think Eastern Companion Dog Training is one of them. Looking at their FB page they had a pony at their last session
  3. I couldn't find the one I had seen before. I had rejected it as not serious enough, lol. They are usually privately run though rather than a club that is affiliated with the VCA.
  4. I use a drink for kids called Pediasure - http://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/Buy/72519/PediaSure-Vanilla-850g Sometimes that is the only thing Amber will have.
  5. I wouldn't be bothered with licking. I would probably stop excessive licking. There are dog schools around that do everyday situation type training.
  6. Well not so much high protein but more the dog needs easily digestible protein when the liver isn't working properly. I would have suggested eggs, white fish etc but if she isn't eating them that isn't going to work.
  7. Are you taking a eat whatever you like approach or are you wanting to keep her going as long as you can? If you want to do the second I would be avoiding bones and high protein. Her liver just can't process it. Amber gets no bones as all. The last one she had caused her to have a fit. Did the vet talk to you about a liver diet at all?
  8. A police dog went missing yesterday after chasing an offender. He was found after 6 hours locked in a car! He seems fine but damn that could have been nasty. http://www.9news.com.au/national/2015/12/12/14/26/major-police-search-launched-for-missing-police-dog-at-coomera-waters-gold-coast Sunrise have video on their FB page of the dog's handler breaking into the car to rescue him.
  9. Amber was given 6 months to live when she was 11 months old. She has just turned 6! I have been doing palliative care for 5 years! I've just tried to make every day a good day for her. I've definitely taken them places and gone places that I probably wouldn't have, so what happened did change my outlook. iWishing you lots more wonderful days with Anna. Take care of yourself too as looking after a dog like this does take a toll on the human.
  10. Agree with this. First with the GSD's and now with the Greyhounds. Yes I've always had one of these too. And both girls were totally devoted to me in a walk through fire way, which I think also helps.
  11. If I walked with head phones I reckon the dogs would have got squashed this morning as a car zoomed out of their driveway, straight across the path without looking. I heard the car rather than seeing it. The driver looked a bit shocked when she finally looked my way!
  12. I nearly got run over twice today whilst out walking. Watch out people, it is December and people are driving like idiots!
  13. No fights here. The closest one was when a bitch grabbed a dog's ear whilst playing and he had an ear infection and got upset. No wounds occurred. This is over a 20 year span. The most I've had at one time is 4 dogs. Haven't had 2 entire adult dogs at the one time.
  14. I took her in the shade and sunlight in the hope of showing the colour as accurately as I could. I know Dun in horses is quite different, but Rebanne's right, they call this dun in greyhounds. It's pretty isn't it. Apparently the only colour a Dun bitch will throw is black! I'm assuming though that the Dun gene carries on, hidden until it pops up every now and then. This girls parents were black and fawn, though I dont know which was which. She might be the sister of Dun and Dunner. i checked this as this would not be the case in border collies. And it is the same with Dun. Dun x Dun will give you only Dun. Dun x other colours will give you a variety of colours depending on the other genes. So they don't just have black puppies.
  15. i would say not very important, I don't have a sheep farm :) I guess if I wanted to buy a puppy to go on and compete in herding then that would influence what puppy I purchased but my dogs are pets. But then I do enjoy their natural tendencies to do certain things, like drop quickly or the ease that they can be redirected when loose, these are trained of course but they have the instinct to cast out etc In saying that I have trained the last 3 dogs on sheep. Herding wasn't really available when I had my first 2 border collies or I would probably have taken them too. I did it for the dog's own fun. Brock wasn't too fussed about it but Poppy loved it. Will never forget the first time she saw sheep, was amazing to watch. So I did ANKC herding with her as far as I could go without having good access to sheep. I always try and work with their natural instincts not against. Mine don't do anything very annoying anyway. Probably the most annoying thing is looping behind me on walks, which is pesky on onlead walks. I've tried walking with a couple of people that walk slow and that was a little embarrassing when the dogs would keep nudging them on the heels  I did think about this too the other day when I was trying to walk down a steep slope. They both just start walking very slowly and waiting for me without me having to say something. Being part of being a herding dog is not just rounding the sheep up it is making sure the flock is ok. This instinct is really sweet. Over the years they have alerted me a number of times to problems, things like horses stuck in fences.
  16. More an age thing than anything else I would say.
  17. 2 beds for in the house. 2 trampoline beds with cushions for outside. 1 crate with a bed set up outside (outside is really inside as it is a enclosed verandah). 2 crate + beds in the car. 1 spare soft crate + 1 wire crate. No blankies or toppers.
  18. You can feed from a jackpot container too so you don't have to handle the meat.
  19. Very annoying for you Snook. I had whippet issues until I pointed out to the owners that their dogs were likely to get hurt. They don't let it run around my dogs barking anymore. I had the 'my dog is friendly' routine today. I just said 'well mine might not be'. The owner was most surprised.
  20. Can you keep your pets and other people safe whilst waiting? The dog needs to be in a secure run at home and muzzled whilst out.
  21. Your dog has bitten the lawnmower man, attacks people putting stuff in your mail box, has hurt your other dog, is stalking your cats and is very reactive out. She is simply not a suitable pet. Unless you are prepared to keep her as a dangerous dog, because that is what she is.
  22. I'm a vego but geared myself up one day to use raw streak as training treats. It wasn't pleasant. And the little shits were all 'yeah so what'.
  23. ...I didn't see a forum rule that states an age threshold, however one of the rules is, and I quote from here: •Think carefully about any possible consequences before posting. Be aware that a large audience may see your post (via Google searches etc), and your words may come back to haunt you. Unlike the spoken word, your written posts will exist on here for a long time. We are not obliged to remove your membership or any post you make. ETA:...and why shouldn't they read it?...it is actually a pretty good source to get some good ideas how to behave around strange dogs, and isn't this what we want? That isn't a rule btw, it is a guideline.
