  1. That is fine if there is a good reason for culling the trait but it doesn't seem that way a lot of the time.
  2. Those markings look like the birdcatcher spots that horses get.
  3. This shows Amber's eyes quite well.
  4. There is dilute in the sable. It has not been identified yet but it is there :) Not really sure what you mean the dilution gene is on a different locus to the agouti gene. I am not referring to the dilution of eumelanin, most commonly known as the 'dilution gene' . I am referring to the dilution of phaeomelanin. Ok with you now :)
  5. Yes and I think there is dilute in the light fawn and light agouti, black and silvers etc If there is dilute in there as well the guard hairs will be blue rather than black. Amber is black/sable but has the amber coloured eyes. A lot of the sable border collies seem to have this eye colour. I think it is pretty. There is dilute in the sable. 7. Do other breeds get around the colour issue by registering the dogs as a different colour? If you look through the DOL border collie puppy sale page you will see a heap of litters that really should not have happened because the dogs should have been on the limit registry because of colour.
  8. They can be Limited Registered if they crop up in a Main Registered litter. They just can't be obviously be used for breeding within our and other registries. My take on it is... the op should have taken notes of lines known to carry the "parti" gene and rally up others who also like the gene and either create another registry or lobby for the dogs with that colouring to be accepted eventually into the ANKC registry. Sure, but why?? That's what I want to know. Because some old biddy or bloke yonks ago decided that they didn't like them.
  9. Lovely thread! Great photos everyone. This is my fav cute photo of Amber
  10. Go enjoy your pup and I am sure your papers will arrive soon (hopefully).
  11. This is what I couldn't quite work out. Whether parti poodles were registered in other countries. Someone posted something about it but I still didn't really get it. The sable border collies that I like in other countries (US & UK) are show champions. It is just here that they aren't supposed to be on the mains registry.
  12. Would it just be easier to post all the docs I received? Probably best not to as you would be outing the breeder. The breeder uses this DOL to promote her pups! Should I not post the breeder name? I remember reading something about not doing that before I signed up for the forum. Well they might not like the tone of some replies in this thread and it might get nasty.

  14. Probably because the OP was intending to breed the unregistered poodles. Which is a forum no-no.
  15. The people that have posted on here that have been ripped off haven't from memory got any paperwork at all. And the breeder is refusing to return calls etc. So at this stage I don't think the OP should worry.
  16. That's 'cause they're soooooooooooooo rare (mr rolleyes where are you!!!) Whenever I see one advertised as "rare" - I feel like screaming they're not rare anymore!!! Surely the other colours must be rare by now??? I only ever see blue ones! So common
  17. Just read your threads on the other forum. I would PTS.
  18. Have you tried a thundershirt? A friend has a manic little dog with separation issues and the shirt apparently calms him down.
  19. Agree with Megan. I feed a Hills prescription food which has no meat. I was horrified when I read the ingredients, but it is keeping the dog alive.
  20. It is a pretty high fence. The gate is fastened with a dog lead and was still all done up, but maybe someone let them out and did it back up.
  21. I am just worried that the dogs were supposed to be at home and hadn't got out from somewhere else. Or even that the owner isn't laying in the woody bit somewhere. The council are currently in there doing council stuff so hopefully they would notice someone. I have a vivid imagination. I forgot to say how pleased I was with my girls.
  22. Was walking through my local off lead park this morning and came face to face with 2 dogs offlead, no owner in sight. I knew the dogs as they are ones that bark their heads off at me from their front yard as I walk past. I was ummm slightly alarmed as my girls aren't super friendly. Luckily mine were also off lead and everyone said hello pretty nicely. I walked them in the direction of home through the park and then managed to get one on a lead when we got to the road. Put my 2 on one lead and off we went with the other one following. Had to walk past another dog that likes to rush the fence and I nearly pissed my pants when I saw that its gate wasn't latched, was just sitting closed. Bolted past at the speed of light! Luckily I think that one is getting a bit more used to me. Got the 2 dogs home and in their garden. Their fence was all locked up like it normally is. Went back to fix the other fence and found a neighor and got him to do it as I can't go near with my dogs. I am now concerned about how the other 2 got out. The gate was secure (as well as usual) and I couldn't see any way that they had got out from the front. Didn't want to go into the backyard as they might not have liked that. They seemed pleased I had got them home but I didn't want to push the friendship. The owner wasn't home. I'll leave a note for the owners but should I be doing something else? It would be very bad for them to be out in Victoria. In hindsight it might have been better to bring them here but like I said mine aren't that great with dogs and I don't have a secure run.
  23. Whether you are going to show the border definitely effects the shampoo/gear you use. You don't want a super soft coat with no undercoat on your show border. Remember a judge having a fit about this at a club show once. Everyone got a good telling off for making their dog's coats too soft.
