  1. Yes I had to feed more BH than other dry foods. All my dogs dropped weight on it. Last time I purchased it was with the aim of getting some weight off one of my dogs.
  2. What I am trying to say is that I don't think you should automatically think that a breeder is dodgy because of the colour of the dogs they have bred. I need a bit more evidence before I decide on dodginess.
  3. You aren't in Victoria though are you? Therefore I doubt you would know all our breeders. The person I am thinking of does not do 'a bit of agility'. Not really sure what having blue has to do with it either. This breeder has no blue dogs. Their dogs obviously have the dilute gene though.
  4. No more genetically unusual then blue :) There are some top performing agility dogs around here that always seem to throw lilac. They are breeding for performance but often get the lilac color.
  5. I would always get them done now after my experience with my dog with a liver shunt. Before she was diagnosed at 11 months you would not have thought there was anything wrong with her. If I had booked her in for desexing at 6 months chances are fairly high that she wouldn't have come out of the surgery. I would expect a vet just to do them though. Unless they have been done for something else prior.
  6. When I took Amber in with all the fluid the vet said then that she had a heart murmur which was when we did the ultrasound and he noticed the liver as he was doing the heart. I was a little bit surprised at the time as nothing about her heart had been said previously. The specialist then said that there was nothing wrong with the heart. So sometimes vets can get the heart stuff wrong. Are the breeders at least offering support?
  7. I shop at Woolies so definitely in there. Not sure about Coles. There was a thread in the health section about it.
  8. Due any day now apparently. A pet store owner I spoke to was expecting it before Xmas. I have been feeding VIP grain free from the supermarket. shock horror. No complaints so far. Poppy's coat has improved and she was getting super premium before.
  9. Glad that it is working for your dog :) I tried my cat that had IBD on it and had a small improvement but not much.
  10. Is 4Leggs a roll Jules? I have heard Natures Gift canned is good - have you used the Kibble? There is a 4Leggs roll which I have frozen as it is a biiggg roll. I normally get the trays which are little balls. Yep have used the Natures Gift kibble. It is semi moist. Dogs love it. It only comes in small bags though so works out pretty expensive. I reckon the best pet roll is Ecopet. Don't see it around much anymore though. You can also get totally raw rolls made by Prime. They are found in pet supply places and are frozen when you buy them.
  11. If I had no dog food in the house, unfrozen, then I would do something with eggs. I normally have ricotta in the fridge and yogurt so they would have some of that too. I use Natures Gift on a regular basis and have done for about 20 years. Use sardines weekly too. 4Leggs freezes pretty well.
  12. As an ex-groomer I don't understand this either. I wouldn't leave a dog on the table to walk across the room The dog wouldn't have been in a choke chain either. Neither of which brings Buddy back or helps at all I guess
  13. I am so very sorry Cazstaff Please try not to blame yourself or do the 'what ifs'. RIP beautiful buddy.
  14. lol. I feel guilty because I've moved them from acreage to the burbs....
  15. Having the same issues! Sad little border collie faces until the walk happens. I would really like one day a week that I could rest. Sigh.
  16. Diggers is closest. They are Kelpie dudes so should be fine for your friend. Haven't heard anything bad. Dave used to post on DOL and seemed pretty sensible. Some of us go to Nyora but that would be a big hike for your friend.
  17. If I am not home then I would leave the dogs outside, lots of shade in the garden. Really hot days I don't go far from home anyway, fire risk and worry about the dogs. Dogs are currently inside enjoying the aircon.
  18. Leaving the balls is kind of cute  Clever pup. What does she do with the stuff she steals? One of my border collies used to put treasures in a pile unharmed. I wouldn't let her have free run of the house and the problem is solved. When I have pups I am careful not to leave things on the ground (shoes etc). You could also put her toys in a box for her to steal. Make sure her toys are obviously dog toys though, no old shoes etc.
  19. No, she thinks the dog is a dangerous dog that doesn't have the correct gear on. A rather unsettling incident Staffyluv. Hopefully nothing will come of it.
  20. All the fireworks around here were illegal ones, so it totally shits me that I have to stay home.
  21. Glad I stayed home. Didn't know what the fireworks would be like here as I wasn't here last year. Totally out of control! Not helped by the fact that my place is a little bit higher up. Amber isn't fussed but Poppy is a bit anxious. Glad they were safely locked up though.
  22. Nice. Have you got your own sheepies now? I haven't been herding for nearly a year. Poppy wasn't a happy camper last time I went so I haven't been again. I found out the other day that there is someone right near me doing sessions. Would like to try Amber again. She has by far the most annoying herdy type behaviors of any border collie I've owned. I'm constantly getting a sharp little nose to the backs of my legs  And she will not cross in front of me which is funny. If she gets in front on the lead and wants to come back to the left she comes behind me, so I keep having to switch the lead!
