God no! I wouldn't want someone who is acting oddly and aggressively anywhere near my dogs. Not safe for them or the dogs.

Kirty - I have a dalmatian who pulled like mad when I first tried to walk him a couple of months ago because he'd never been walked before in all his 8 years of life. It took just a few walks with the Easy Walk harness and now he's behaving really well on a lead. But it has to be the Easy Walk harness or similar. Some people confuse this harness with other ordinary ones but the biggest thing is to have the clip part at THE FRONT and not on the back. Apparently if you clip a lead to a harness with the loop at the back it can encourage the dog to pull more (eg that's how they get dogs to pull sleds etc). But with the clip thing at the front they can't pull against you. If they pull it just turns them around toward you. They take a little getting used to (for the human more than the dog) but dogs seem to love that its NOT attached to their necks and they aren't being pulled around by the head or neck like they would be on a collar or head halter. I also combined the EW harness with a lunge lead once I had him walking nicely on a loose leash and now I alternate between going for a jog with him at the furthest extent of the lunge lead (so he can feel free) and then he slows down when I ask him to and comes back to me and walks on a short loose lead. I can't recommend the EW harness (or similar) enough as a training tool and have convinced two other people in my town to get one by letting them try mine on their long-term back-breaker dogs

Does anyone know: Which pound would have this dog now? What's the usual practice where she is? Can she be rescued by someone ASAP??? Is there some sort of duty of care thing that would get her out of that cold pound environment and into somewhere she can be looked after??? What can be done to help her? Can I help somehow? All I can do is throw money at someone (not the RSPCA) who is a legit rescuer but if she can be fostered and put in a better environment and saved from being PTS I'll help out financially as much as I can.

oh my god! She is barely there the poor little thing. Those b@stards have no right to be called human beings. I hope they find them - but then again - what difference will it make. They'll probably get a slap on the wrist at worst. But kudos to whoever brought her in and the RSPCA better not just give up on her and put her to sleep without a good reason.......

From what the OP wrote I didn't get the impression this kid was intellectually disabled but of course that would make a difference. But otherwise, I have children in my life and some of them are absolutely fantastic people. But there are others who are not. Like the kid who raised his fist to my dog and went to thump him when we were outside a shop and the kid I found throwing things at my dogs over my garden fence. Both of them got an earful from me and were left in no doubt as to what would happen if I EVER saw them do it again. I like kids but I'm not "starry eyed" about them. I treat them like small, uneducated adults. I believe in equality when it comes to things like that I don't care how old they are or what their tragic history/story is. Child or adult - creepy is creepy, nasty is nasty and I won't put up with it around people or animals I care about.

I would have asked the little creep if he had a problem or something and why he was staring at my dog. That is one scarey kid. Will probably end up on the news one day - one way or another.

I've heard of poly MVA for cancer - very expensive tho - I've read claims of it's success. I actually bought some when I was desperately trying to help my boy with his cancer but he died before I even opened it. I sent it back and got a full refund. Zeolite is used for recovery from surgery and treatment and to counter the effects of toxins. I understand people use it as a supplement to other treatment options. There are claims that it helps fight cancer. Here's some info on Zeolite. Zeolite Info If you scroll down there's a link to a large document which includes research and patent info on that particular brand of Zeolite. I bought the polymva and zeolite from these nice folks in WA Dog Cancer Net

Awwww the website is too bloated for my poor dialup connection so I can't get the vidoes to work It took forever just to get the page to download and then the vids just hung there with that silly circle thing going in the middle. I wish people would stop throwing all that silly scripting junk into their sites and over-loading people's browsers. *sigh* But congratulations anyway!!!

Osteosarcoma-it's Not All Bad News
spottychick replied to becky thatcher's topic in Palliative Care Forum
Thanks becky - I know what a scary thing to go through that is and so glad to hear your dog is doing okay -
Yeah it does seem a bit risky!!!

Ooooookay................. I'm going with hideous. That doesn't look human at all. In fact it doesn't look like anything in particular except something really sad that shouldn't be shown on people's puter screens.

My pets have never been "property" - sentimental or otherwise. They are living, breathing, individual characters and I know they would risk their lives for me. (well not sure about Tango yet but all of my other dogs have protected me at risk to themselves). I can say with absolute certainty that I would NOT evacuate without my dogs. Its about taking responsibility for their lives - I took them on and made them dependent on me so I could not live with myself if, when push came to shove, I just left them to sink or swim (so to speak) without me. However, I don't know what would happen if it was an immediate and unavoidable choice between their lives and mine. I would not want to die for them but I'm not sure that instinct wouldn't intervene and I'd risk my life regardless. I really don't know. But I do know if an evacuation shelter wouldn't allow pets to come with me then I wouldn't go there - or I would stand there with dogs on leads and make the shelter 'police' choose - All 3 of us stay out here and risk our lives OR all three of us come in There is no reason not to let people bring their pets to shelters - even if you make it a rule that they all be in crates/cages.

How Did Your Pet Get Its Name?
spottychick replied to crazyboutdogz's topic in General Dog Discussion
Pepper got her name after I ran a lengthy internet poll for different options and then got people to choose between the top 10. Pepper won hands down - and fortunately it suits her. The runner up was Venus (due to the distinct 'V' shape of spots on her forehead - see avatar!!!). Tango got his name because he moves like a dancer. When he sits he tap dances with his front paws. You can even hear the tapping now that his claws are slightly longer. And when he goes for walks and breaks into a trot he has the most elegant, high-stepping, beautiful dancer-like stride. On top of all that he does this gorgeous dance-like thing where he will wrap his body around yours and follow you round in a circle with his body still up against yours if you turn on the spot. Then if you stop and turn the other way he will do a twirl and then wrap himself around you in the other direction and follow you etc.... He will even bow to you in the middle of it if you touch him in the centre of his chest, then continue with "the dance". So he had to have a dance-related name and his previous name was "Milo" so Tango seemed a great choice. -
Yes, this isn't making any sense at all. How can there not be grounds for prosecution???? And these people clearly think what they were doing was okay otherwise they wouldn't have applied for the permit. No wonder they think that when everyone's telling them they haven't breached any laws!!!!! Are those poor animals still there???? Garrrggghhh!!! This is so disheartening!

I dont see why not. Just small amounts tho. You can give the honey to her straight off your fingers/a spoon or in water. It's good stuff!

This guy has some interesting thoughts. http://leerburg.com/pdf/introducingdogs.pdf

Hi ddcmd - thanks for posting. How terrible that these dogs have done all this damage and still NOTHING comes back on those owners. Your dedication made me cry - I am so sorry you lost these beautiful babies - and in such horrific circumstances.

Don't get mad - get even. I agree with forwarding their details to anyone you think might be interested, including the council. And sending them info would be good too.

Man Jailed For Feeding Kittens To Pitbull
spottychick replied to PuggaWuggles's topic in In The News
The only thing he's "deeply remorseful" about is the knowledge that he would have to go to jail. When are we going to stop breeding abominations like this man??? -
I'll try to remember how I did it. The process was fairly complicated and I kept meaning to put it up on a web site because people kept asking me how I was doing it. She had 3 very large tumors on her side tho, fast-growing, scarey, ugly things - not just small wart-like growths - so it was pretty heavy-duty. I can tell you some of it tho. I gave her natural treatments both internally and externally (as a poultice) and it included boosting her immune system, high doses of Vit C, changing her diet, giving her a cottage cheese/flax oil mix and essiac tea, turmeric, garlic and kelp, amongst other things. I also used similar ingredients, including the herbs from the essiac tea, in a poultice that I thickened with wheatgerm and placed over the tumors and then wrapped with a bandage. Pretty smelly but it sucked the toxins right out of her tumors. I also washed the area after removing the poultice with hydrogen peroxide. WHen the tumors changed and looked more like open sores than growths I changed some of the poultice ingredients to more healing ingredients such as manuka honey. This took about 3 months to achieve success. But that is a very simplified, cut down version of what I did and I should add I had a vet keeping an eye on what we were doing. He was quite stunned at the results!! If I get around to putting it together properly and posting on a website I'll let you know if you're interested. With your dog, if they are warts and itchy, I'd be inclined to start by making up a spray of calendula tea and filtered water and maybe a bit of colloidal silver, to spray on the area and reduce the itchiness. Also, maybe get some Vitamin E capsules and puncture one and spread the oil over the wart/s and perhaps give her some Vitamin C (ascorbic acid form). You can also apply Vit C topically, directly to the skin - as a paste. Adding spirulina, kelp and/or dandelion to her food can help with overall health as they improve organ function in the body.

Dont you just love that bum in the air stuff. I do it at them sometimes, get down on "all fours" and do the "lets play" thing - it's a great way to get them feeling happy and playful - but I know I look like a complete idiot LMAO
