  1. We have a Dyson Powerhead to get rid of the dog hair from the carpet. its bloody heavy to use it and I’d love to replace it.
  2. We waited 6 years before we were able to get a Field Spaniel pup. At the time there were only 4 breeders and when we got our boy, it was pure luck...ringing a breeder when she had a pregnant bitch. now on a waiting list for another...in 2 years.
  3. My husband made a ramp for Jindi as she was having trouble jumping up on the bed. we got a ramp from Dimmys and he cut up a yoga mat to create a non-slip surface. she uses it all the time. next puppies we will teach them from the start to help with joints.
  4. I got 12/19. i think the descriptions didn't match the reasoning and that's my excuse!
  5. Thank you. surgery is Thursday, but we're dropping him off tomorrow night as they are doing the surgery first thing. will be weird not having him around, even for one night. it will be interesting to see how Jindi copes.
  6. Thanks guys. really hoping it's just a scare. Not ready to say goodbye to my little boy.
  7. Hi all. A lot of you know that I have been blessed with owning and loving two Field Spaniels. One the boofhead Henschke and the other my heart dog, Jindi. last year, Henschke had a lump removed which turned out to be just a cyst. This year, another lump has shown up and for some stupid reason we thought we'd do the 'watch and see'. His groomer who's also a vet nurse thought it was just another cyst so we weren't worried about it. 6 weeks later, she's seen him again and says it's changed so my husband took him to the vet on Friday. he did an FNA and said that the results showed abnormalities, that he said could be cancer, so he's booked in for surgery this coming Thursday. He doesn't want to wait because of the size of it and because it's changed. Before it was soft and squishy which is why I thought it was a cyst, but now it's harder, there is no hair over it and it's quite ugly. The vet is quite concerned and is so nice (we've been going to him for 9 years), he didn't charge for the consultation. i have to admit, I'm a bloody fool for waiting. my husband loves, loves this dog and is just devastated. I keep telling him not to worry until we know for sure. next week we find out the results. please keep your fingers, toes and paws crossed for us. Poochmad.
  8. Just saw this (sorry couldn't read your beautiful message about him; but what I read he sounded amazing). my heartfelt condolences for you. thinking of you.
  9. So very sorry for your loss.
  10. Great photos as always. I was telling my masseuse about you and how some of them like cats (she has two). I think she'd be a wonderful person for one of your pooches. can you please send the link where I can find the cat interaction photos? And I will send them on. thanks!
  11. Listening to the video, they are talking to the dog and telling the kid to be gentle in both videos. most dogs will get up and move away if they are annoyed. we have two dogs and recently a house full of 4 kids who LOVE dogs. The kids were told to not cuddle the male dog as only we can do that and I don't to risk him getting cranky which he has in the past (just jumped up suddenly), whereas the female is pretty much bomb proof has never reacted negatively to anyone. This visit she just moved away if she had enough which us exactly what you want. the kids were taught to respect the dogs and leave them alone when eating, sleeping on their mats and telling them to be gentle when taking a treat - after each dog did something. i think, if done correctly, having a dog growing up is a wonderful thing.
  12. Oh no! I'm so very sorry to read this; i didn't realise her age. She looks so young in the banner. My heart and thoughts go out to you.
  13. I'm so sorry for your loss. That must have been a hard decision.
  14. Aww. I will have a chat with her next time I see her...
  15. Do you have a website? I.e. How can one stalk you to see what dogs you have?
  16. Hmm kelpie...not for me...but a friend who wants an energetic dog to go running with her. How are kelpies with cats? Glad to see all the updates. I look forward to them every time you post. :)
  17. I should also add that the only way I'd get a mixed breed is through rescue, where the dog has been vetted and the temperament is known. Every time I hear of someone getting an oodle, I think: ARRRRGGHHH!! And when I show them a list of breeds that are low shedding, they're like oh, I didn't know. When I meet one of these pups, I can see the attraction. They are cute. They are calm. They have all grown up to be wonderful dogs. The price people pay, astounds me. You paid $4000 for that???? You know you could have paid a lot less for a dog that has been bred the same way for DECADES, but it falls on deaf ears. While people keep buying these dogs and they all seem to be, through a photo, but 'the breeder is really nice' and inside I think: ARRRRGGHHH of course they are! They want you to pay the deposit and sell their pups. And in all fairness, the people where they are getting the pups from, are doing things I agree with. Offering lifelong support, breeding cross to cross instead of poodle to lab, desexing the pups, offering to take the pup back for ANY reason, at ANY stage of life. Using only healthy stock and providing paperwork of hip, elbow and other tests done to prove their pups are sound. so there does seem to be people out there who are trying to do the right thing. I think we have to face it, these dogs are here to stay. I also know a lot about puppy farms. When I was at uni, I did a paper on them and how they are raised. Thankfully, there seems to be a growing trend for people going the other way.
  18. Well, like it or not, she's bought one and even though she knows I disagree, I don't want to fight with her, so I will have to get on board...like providing advice about grooming, socialising, toilet training, interaction with the kids etc. I said to my husband, we are definitely getting a Lagotto now.
  19. Well she has now revealed that in her yuppy area in Adelaide, 5 of her friends have one and rave about them She bought the pup from someone who seems to be doing the right things (and yes, I agree there are people trying to do the right thing. So even though I gave her multiple dogs to choose from, she went with what her friends have...sigh... She also now calls it the pure x breed. Which is a start. I'm a pure dog person through and through so have trouble being 'excited'.
  20. At last! Poo bags that I can put in the toilet! Hurrah! No more maggots!!
  21. I do like the Brittany, they are very pretty dogs. Nice, lovely large litter.
  22. Before anyone flames me, I read the rules before starting this thread. What I want to know, is what is the go regarding poodle cross dogs? My sister recently asked me about all the dogs that don't shed because they have a son with terrible eczema (and yes I know it may not be the coat, it could be the dander or saliva, but I didn't want to make it complicated) so I gave her a list of all the breeds that don't shed or minimal shedding (if we get technical), provided pros and cons of each breed and estimated costs, plus breeders in her area. For her family, I recommended the mini schnauzer, the Bichon, Havanese and Lagotto (because that's most likely my next breed). In November she contacts me and asks about Labrador crosses and I gave her the standard answers we all know (puppy farms, not checking for genetic issues, no guarantee, the whole bit)...so surprise, surprise she sends me a photo of a litter of pups (all look smooth coated) with a curly coated bitch and I'm like please don't tell me that's a poodle cross...and of course it is. Apparently 5 of her friends have one and rave about them. So of course I upset her and her kid by telling the truth and to think she cries poor, when she's probably forked out $4k plus on a dog with no guarantee and is going to be big! A woman at work just got rid of her two cavalier cross breeds because they shed, and even though I don't think she should have a dog I gave her a list of breeds suitable for a family, yet today she tells me she'd buy another as long as they don't shed. Two other families we know have recently purchased cav crosses as well. And each time I hear it, I say, did you do any research into purebreds that won't shed and you know exactly what you are getting, as well as a breeder who ensures as well as they can of no genetic problems, who will give lifelong support, will take the dog back if required, etc ...and when I show them pictures of these dogs, they tell me they had no idea...and had they known, they would have got one. Sigh. So tell me, why? What the bloody hell is the reason? I should add that I 'apologised for my outburst but I care about her and don't want her to have a dog with lifelong problems etc' and had to swallow my tongue to say great news. Oh to top it off, they haven't even seen the mother. Just picked a pup from a photo. Ack! What happened to waiting until the pups were older and picking the right temp?
  23. Aww that would be great poochmad! Only problem is Goulburn is too much of a hike for us! I'm sure someone else closer by will snap them up though! ???? I'm sure there are a few rescues that would be happy to take up the offer of free crates... would you be amenable to donating them to rescue? T. Of course. Who's the rescue group in Goulburn?
