  1. So, what about conditions such as epilepsy which often don't occur until after 2 yrs of age. In many breeds there is an inherited component but it can also be caused by trauma and many other things.
  2. I can hear that you are well organised and determined about this HW  I hope that you are able to achieve a more satisfactory outcome than has been indicated by council thus far - one that is more in keeping with community attitudes and the gravity of the attack that you and your dogs experienced. So glad there are people on DOL who can offer you advice and support. Best wishes
  3. Hmmm, If you are up for it I would ask to speak to the head ranger and relate just how concerned you are about the situation and that you feel that the response of your local council is inadequate. I live in NSW in a different council area to you and I certainly got a great deal more action for a situation that involved dogs that aggressively rushed me a couple of times - ranger was absolutely fantastic and gave clear instructions to the owners of dogs, followed this up within a set time and kept me informed (this was last year). Your situation is vastly more concerning
  4. HW - hope your hand will be ok - keep a diary of discussions you have with the ranger - or anyone else. Ring the ranger and say that she has done nothing to the front fence/gate. Sending you positive vibes
  5. If my dogs did that I would take them to the vet to be put to sleep - I do not want to own dogs who behave in that way. If, for some reason that is just beyond my capabilities to fathom, someone does want to own dogs that would behave in this manner then such dogs need to be adequately contained in a manner that does not mean they can be inadvertantly let out. What I do want is to be able to walk my dogs without fear and for other people to be able to do the same.
  6. If these dogs are not Declared Dangerous - I think we have to go to the media!!!! How this council is applying the legislation would need examination.
  7. Reading about what happened to you and your lovely dogs made me cry. Like you, I am so over these attacks that happen to people (and their dogs) who are just out doing normal things. Personally, I think that the owner of the attacking dogs should be liable for consults for Maddie (and Stan) to be seen by a dog behaviourist if necessary as well as the vet bills. Wishing you and your dogs the very best for recovery.
  8. Glad you persisted - there is nothing wrong with the trampoline bed you bought her and you have made it very snuggly. She will be perfectly happy and so will your mum which is even better :D :D
  9. Elderly friends had a beautiful older cavalier from rescue and her was quite happy to be left on his own when they went out - rarely heard a peep out of him.
  10. What Kelpiecuddles said !!! Enough clueless dog owners around me who do not desex their dogs - there are both ooops litters in the village and ones who have a litter of little crosses now and then to make a few bux. Roaming entire male dogs is not something I want more of :banghead:
  11. BreeIndy - definitely contact the Clarence Valley Group - they are a strong club and hold regular show training classes. Check out their facebook page. Have you entered for the Grafton Carnival which is coming up?
  12. Poor little thing - what a shocking wound - I think your little dog is lucky to be here
  13. Getting restitched isn't fun and does happen so just be vigilant and I would not leave him home alone without the cone - what if he rips the stitches out while you are gone. My male dog ripped stitches out of his foot in seconds and a friends male ripped his desexing stitches out in about the same amount of time
  14. Is your dog underweight? If he is then I would want testing to rule out any health problems eg Addisons since it is a standard poodle. If your vet has not suggested or done testing then I would change vets - I would not be happy with a "diagnosis" of fussy. Has your breeder made any suggestions? If there are no known health problems then does your dog get regular exercise and mental and environmental stimulation? I have found that dogs who have a "healthy" lifestyle eat and sleep better - just a suggestion ....
  15. Poor baby - just make sure you have pain relief to give her during Sun night if she needs it
  16. Congrats Poodlefan!!! hope you are around for the next ten DOL needs you!!!
  17. Hope your little fellow makes it. I recall you saying that you babysat the neighbours dog - how soon after did it get sick? Just thinking about contamination of your yard and house  Words cannot describe what kind of asshole your neighbour is letting that poor pup die in agony
  18. Letting a dog run around a carpark is dangerous not silly and nearly knocking over an elderly person is totally unacceptable :mad
  19. Some dogs do lick (and even remove stitches) so just be careful. I find they are worse the second or third day. One of my standard poodles had to wear an elizabethan collar for 10 days recently when he had a lump removed from his lower eyelid. I removed the collar early on to do something and within seconds he was rubbing the eye so back on and not removed at all for 10 days. He slept, ate his food, walked and went in the car with it on - he even went to my craft groups christmas party with it on LOL
  20. Beat me to it Minimax !! It is not acceptable to ignore the purchaser when the terms of the purchase have not been fulfilled. So I stand by my comment that not all breeders are good breeders. Yes, stuff happens but having sold the puppy you need to uphold your end of the purchase agreement and keep the buyer in the loop if some holdup occurs. Personally, if I was told that getting papers would take up to a year I think I would purchase elsewhere JMO
  21. Hope your papers do turn up - not all registered breeders are good ones - hope your dog is healthy and all you wished for!!
