  1. We used clomicalm with a dog who developed anxiety when she had lymphoma. She developed several phobias and these disappeared when she was on the clomicalm - If possible I would give it another couple of weeks as it may reduce her anxiety to a level where she is able to learn new behaviours. Best wishes
  2. Glad to hear he is getting better. Having shaved many testicles on show poodles with a 40 blade with never a burnt scrotum in sight I think either the equipment or the technique of the person on the end of that pair of clippers is questionable. As Christina stated a light hand is needed. This is a delicate area. I think a little more concern on the part of the practice in question is warranted. If a groomer did this then the RSPCA would be called :mad
  3. Going back to high school biology now - but I imagine that the excessive amount of water in the gut causes an osmotic effect which is why Sally had low electrolytes etc - could be completely wrong - high school was a long time ago
  4. So glad your dog is recovering - I believe this can happen with people too ??
  5. That is a serious number of stitches - glad your dog is ok. It makes me so angry when dogs are out roaming or not contained adequately :mad
  6. Sorry, but this letter reads like a Tabloid newspaper for the defence..
  7. Did you even read this thread? The owner was CONVICTED in a court of law and admitted dogs were dangerously out of control. The conviction was not fabricated by a newspaper.
  8. What kind of breeder exhibits and breeds dogs that are dangerously out of control and what kind of dog owner has dangerously out of control dogs that are not adequately contained :mad
  9. I have been following this thread but have not posted previously - just a normal pet owner with crate trained dogs. As others have said - retraining behaviour takes time and you and Roo have seen significant improvement with Nek. Retraining takes time and there will be setbacks but overall you have seen a positive change. Will just add that if you had started with something sturdy like a C-crate Roo would not have been able to bend the bars and you would not have gone through 3 crates. Having to leave Roo in the crate for 8 hrs the other day so early in the retraining was asking a lot and she did it! Moving too quickly with the crate training perhaps - what did Nek say? Best of luck
  10. There are several brands of kibble which offer turkey based as well. We eat plenty of turkey necks here
  11. Thank you Steve, wanted to post in the same vein but have been distracted as we are still isolated by floodwaters. We need a more diverse gene pool and allowing mismarked poodles with established pedigrees is much more preferable than an open stud book. I am aware of 2 breeders of parti standards in Aust (including the poster who started this discussion) and neither want to breed unregistered dogs. One was registered and has left ANKC taking their solid registered dogs with them. Poodle breeders are already breeding for colour as they believe that the best colour comes from breeding like to like and there are some colours that are not mixed eg brown and white/cream. Apricot/red and silver or brown. Being able to register and use mismarks would certainly open up the gene pool.
  12. Parti poodle at a show in Germany where the title Neufarbenseiger is awarded 3rd gen UKC title holder
  13. Don't worry you can also be disqualified for not enough hair in the right places but a shocking front, over angulated rear or giraffe neck is liable to see you win a ribbon. If your show prospect has said spot on chest you simply dye it and then act surprised when they throw mismarked puppies.
  14. They are registered and shown in UKC in the USA and also registered and shown in Germany so I think it is unfair that this topic was deleted when there are topics about coolies, mini foxies, and other breeds that are not ANKC registerable. JMO As others have said there was a very good discussion about colour genetics and the thread did not seem nasty as happens on many in this forum
  15. I had a single puncture from a dog fang and was recommended to get a booster - it hurt more than the bite LOL
  16. Miniature poodles are very people orientated and would be with you 24/7 if they could. You need to teach your puppy that it will be left alone sometimes and that this is not the end of the world. Perhaps you could start a thread about teaching your puppy to be alone - I am sure you would get lots of very good suggestions.
  17. My black male standard will only go out in the early morning and after sundown - he pees and runs back inside - I mostly have to leash him to get him to stay out long enough to poop. Can't wait till March fly season is over
  18. Umm, yes, my brothers and I got put up a tree by the first Afghan we saw
  19. Personally I always pop back to the vet for a followup after my dogs have been on ear drops (hasn't happened for many years now - I am on the doing less cleaning and plucking thing too and I do think the "natural balance" idea has merit - I am, however, forever checking the dogs ears to make sure there are no problems)
  20. Exactly, hope she does take them to the vet - report it! Owner has had their chance and did not step up to the plate.
  21. Yes, well, since he despatched a rather large brown that was frequenting the house the week before - it was probably a revenge attack  (ps that was a joke - lest someone feel the need to point out the obvious to me)
  22. Yep, part of life in the country - my brother lost one of his working dogs last week - dead on the chain in the morning - poor Wacka - gone to the rainbow bridge to work cattle
  23. I will just keep my screen doors closed thanks, snakes are welcome to travel through our yard (2.6 acres) - just not via my house! My dogs are taken outside several times per day with supervision
  24. Dog doors do not prevent snakes
