Help And Experiences Needed

Anne, Renae (Shes 11) doesn't have seizures as such but for the last year shes been having these tiny trance like fits. They only last for seconds and if i distract her shes comes out of it quickly, -
I cooked up some scrambled eggs for a treat recently for Renae and Miah's tea.. and i made a bit too much I was told they probably have smelly flatulence later Surprisingly it had no side i mean bum effect on them after, or even the next day Hopefully your son's omelette didn't have any onions in it tho? Ok just re read, there was no onion in it , good o !

Organising A Dog Birthday Party
julesluvscavs replied to julesluvscavs's topic in General Dog Discussion
Stans mum !! I I can imagine it in my head her playing up at a party ;-) Miahs a bit of a tomboy, and shes a Tri Colour Cav (they are usually known for their extra cheekiness) I hope shes not too rough on her canine friends lol I have bought her a party dress, but its a bit too princessy for her.. Shes more a skater/surfie type of chick.. i mean Cavalier -
Cavaliers get very itchy skin when they been bitten by a flea. i dilute some quit itch lotion when ours have been like that. Some puppies will get weepy eyes when they are teething too. I now feed our cats grain free dry food as one of ours had the worse skin allergies, which she need injections for on a regular basis. She hasn't had one for quite a few months now and theres been no loss of hair/scabs for ages *touch wood*

Organising A Dog Birthday Party
julesluvscavs replied to julesluvscavs's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi Little Gift, great suggestions We don't have any kids ourselves, and im not sure if any of her guests will be bringing any as most of my friends have grown up adult kids now. But who knows there might be a couple coming on the day. Yes Rach is already involved, shes very helpful that way ! ;) I don't want to go too much trouble either on the day with fussing too much. I did think of pass the parcel around (with a treat in each layer) with any dogs that are coming, but im not sure if that would cause any upsets with dogs waiting for their turn -

Organising A Dog Birthday Party

Thanks Vehs Sounds like it was a really fun way to celebrate Dieter's 10th birthday last year !;) Well I think it just makes it easier for me to organize here at our place, and its near the coffee machine lol Some of her guests have been here before so are familiar with our place. I'm not even sure all of them will turn up on the day for whatever reasons (we live a fair distance away from them all) especially if its a very hot day (altho we are just up the road from the beach!) Miah's breeder said she will come but if its a high fire risk day, she wont be, as she likes to be around her property and dogs (and other pets) to flee in a hurry if they have too, and fair enough ;) -

I hope so Mysticpaw... Its such a worrying time. I will be sending you both positive thoughts x -
Hi Everyone So Miah's 1st birthday party will be the first proper doggy one i've ever organised. But she's going be 1 next month, so we think its a special reason to celebrate it, considering all the bad stuff thats happened over the last few months for us ;( Anyway we are having here at our house in our backyard end of Nov. Its hard to know which way the weather will go on the day, could go either way! If we have to have it inside then so be it. We have a small house but can move some furniture around to accommodate her canine and human guests. We don't have a pergola so we are really hoping the weather isn't too extreme! Not wanting to have it in a park or elswehere. Our Backyard is fine for the occasion plus easier to set up things. We have invited friends that have Cavaliers, except one friend with a smallish mixed breed dog. I have sent our about 7 invites (some of my friends have a couple of Cavaliers) The theme will be purple/lilac (Miah's colour) altho guests and their dogs don't have to wear that colour (I've told them that) So the idea is just to have a table (decorated) set up outside with afternoon tea, Miahs clam pool set up with some water (in case its hot) bone shaped ice cubes for the dogs should it be hot.. I was trying to find some purple rubber ducks to put in the clam pool, but haven't had any luck yet. (ebay has customized ones but they are too exxy) I've got some decorated thank you gift boxes (I'm still making up) for her canine friends ready to be filled with treats, and have ordered some Cavalier shaped biscuits for her Human guests to take home after. Ive also ordered some puppy theme cup cakes in her theme colour. K9 Angel is also helping make some treats etc for Miah's birthday party. I just hope her guests do turn up or i'm going have a lot of things left over ! There are many other things i want to do, but i have to draw the line as i'm already over our strict budget for it ! I keep seeing ideas and want to do them all ;-) My question is re games on the day.... I'm not sure whether to have any , or just let all the dogs roam around with each other doing what they want to do.? I'm worried if i do any games and especially if they involve treats, it might cause havoc and upsets with each other.. And if its a hot day and we have it inside, it will be too difficult to do anyway. I don't want to make too much fuss (well more than i have already ! lol) I do want to keep it simple as possible on the day in a relaxed casual way. Any other suggestions? Thanks ;)

Still thinking of you both x -
I know people often say when i said how long we waited for our current girl that they wouldn't want to wait a long period on a waiting list and still not know if they are definitely getting one or not from the breeder. So thats the thing they can get one straightaway from a petshop or byb (when they are advertised everywhere) and the bonus is they don't have to be interviewed etc to be able to get one.. but thats the reality of it i guess ..
-
Ive heard some pet shops are getting smart now and not wanting to get a bad reputation with selling puppies in their stores ( because of all the anti pet shop stuff going on) but a few still do it discretely behind the scenes. I found this out recently . They just don't keep them in the shop itself , but still charging the high amounts!

Help And Experiences Needed

I have had similar experiences with one of our Cavs (altho fainting wasn't one of the symptoms) , Im not going say much as it may not be the same thing. Thinking of you and your Ricky. Has the vet suggested a MRI yet ? -
We get burs and grass seeds both horrible and hard to manage. We try to keep the Cavs legs and paws trimmed so they dont catch as much. Ours usually pick the burs out themselves if we don't get to them first. Just before i noticed after Renae and young Miah had been right down the backyard with hubby (where the burs are worse grrr) Renae was laying on our bed and Miah was sitting next to her pulling a couple of them out of Renae .. Never seen that before with another one picking them out of the other one.. Can't see where Miah has learn that ? We do have a section that we close of from them when the burs and grass seeds are at their worst ..

I bought Miah's soft puppia harness from our local vets, have you tried seeing if yours stocks them?

I understand about the panic attacks I agree with what Pers has written ;)

I totally understand how you must be feeling atm Tara.. Its probably too far gone, but i do know of one positive story of a Cavalier who had a huge tumour in her throat (not sure if other parts were affected) The Vet said there was not much more they could do, and it was just a matter of time.. The lady took her a Holistic vet in Adelaide (not sure they are still in SA?) since they had nothing to lose.. This Holistic shrunk the tumour down with their treatment to the point it completely disappeared. When the lady took her dog back to her regular vet, they were totally surprised ! It brought the cavalier a few more years, but then it came back and by that time the lady decided to give her dog her wings. They did have a extra happy few years together (the dog wasn't young) Not saying this to give you any false hopes, as i know what is like.. just been through all that myself As for telling the breeder that is very hard.. I emailed Joey's breeder from the firist time i noticed something was wrong and she sent me back a very helpful caring reply listing some options (at that stage we thought it was his spine) But she wrote the most beautiful things about that if we decided to give Joey his wings, she would fully understand and support , us as she has. Breeders have been through similar experiences themselves, so im sure as very sad as it will be for the breeder, they will understand . The ironic thing with Joey was he had an eye issue due to it being scratched by Miah and it took ages to heal, we even had it operated on.. and just when it was finally coming good, then this other thing happened to him. In hindsight i think it took ages to heal because his immunity system would have been quite low then but we wouldnt have known that. Its a tough heartbreaking process to go through it Tara.. Im here if you need to talk xoxo Ps I was given the advice to try my best to keep it together in front of Joey (even tho it was very very hard to not cry in front of him all the time) but i did my best to show him my happy side so it wouldn't affect him too much as he was a very sensitive boy at the best of times.
