Our Miah Turned 1 Today! (27th Nov 2013)

Thank you DD :) That was something that was really important to us, having breeders that would stay in contact with us hopefully long term. Ongoing support has always been high on our priority list when we have been researching breeders, as they don't all want to stay involved as I found out when were on the lookout ages ago (which of course is their personal choice). :) Both breeders of our Cavs are our fb friends also, so they get bombarded with photos of our Cavs, probably too much at times Thank You Everyone -
Our Miah Turned 1 Today! (27th Nov 2013)

Thank you Everyone The weather has been so unpredictable lately, one day cold, then the next day very hot, the next day windy, we just want this Sat to just be nice enough for all her guests to be outside and be comfortable ! Her breeder is supposed to be coming with Miah's Mum.. unless its a hot day and a high fire risk day, which if it is she won't be able to leave her property to travel up our place. We live miles apart. Renae's breeder had a show this weekend, but is choosing to come the party so she can spend some time with Renae also, which is really lovely. Shes bringing one of Renae's daughters and Renae's Grandaughter. -
Can't believe our Miah is now 1 years young ! It seemed not so long ago she came to live with us as a puppy (at 10 weeks) . Its the first time we have ever owned a puppy :) This is the pic of when we first met her at her Breeder's place. She's had a lovely day celebrating it on the same day as my Husband and My 9th Wedding Anniversary. She was born at 8pm on our 8th Wedding Anniversary last Nov. Her proper birthday party is being held this Saturday. I will put up pics later from it as I want to thank a couple Dolers also who have contributed behind the scenes to her upcoming birthday party. Anyway here's a few photos on her actual birthday today . They're all too large to easily add into this post, so i have made her album on my fb public so can see her other photos on there :) My link Its very sad Joey could not be physically here with us today to celebrate Miah's 1st birthday with her but I'm sure he was here in spirit with us all..

Sorry to hear about your dying/sick relative SM, thinking of you all. Hope you can work something out with it all. Take care.

I buy lamb/beef hearts from woolies. My husband trims the excess fat off them and chops them up so we can give Miah some, and also to the cats (not every day) We bag serves up (enough for Miah and the cats) and store them in the freezer till we need them. Then i get them and after they have defrosted i give some to the cats and the rest to Miah with less of whatever meal shes having that night. Have no issues feeding her it :)

Nawww thats so sad Can't you just keep the job you got ? from past posts you sound like you make enough, and you enjoy your work and get along with your coworkers.. and didn't you just get a new house at one stage. Hope you can find another alternative that you still keep your dog. You have had him for a long time and you obviously love him heaps, and visa versa :)

Theres been a part of me that wants to paint Miah's for her 1st birthday party this coming Sat, but we dont have any places here that sells dog nail polish. Im going put some purple hair chalk through her ears tho I saw some once ages ago in a dog boutique place and thought thats weird, now i wish i had bought some at the time lol

What To Look For In A Reputable Breeder?
julesluvscavs replied to snusnu95's topic in General Dog Discussion
I grew up with parents that were registered (and ethical) breeders, so i learnt at an early age to take time, do your research first and go to a proper breeder if you want a healthy purebred and they also they taught me with my first childhood (well early teens) dog to find one at a rescue organisation. So i was blessed to have been educated by them not to impulse buy. So all my dogs since have been from dog rescue organizations or registered breeders ;) Hope you can educate your Mother in your situation. Goodluck ! ;) -
Hi Rach, i know i've already been in touch with you, but my heart is breaking for you sweet lady. I think its take a very special person like yourself to take in dogs that need lots of love, care, healing and in some cases someone to be with them in their last days. Your love, patience and effort is truly inspiring. RIP Zuess ... have fun with all the other dol dogs that have already crossed over the other side of the rainbow bridge. Joey will be there to take your paw. Much love to you and your family Rach x

What To Look For In A Reputable Breeder?
julesluvscavs replied to snusnu95's topic in General Dog Discussion
Our breed of dogs (Cavaliers) has a Club here in SA. You can go along (even if you don't have one) to their pet owner fun days to meet in a fun informal way breeders that are associated with it. Both breeders of our Cavs go to the fun days (they are part of the committee). People get a chance to check out some of their dogs ( and see their temperament etc) and ask questions.. We didn't meet Joey and Renae's breeder that way ( we meet her at a dog show by fate) but it lead us to joining the Cavalier Club of SA which eventually led us to getting to know Miah's breeder. We had been going for quite a few years so had a good chance to get more familiar with the local breeders and their Cavs and what they were like health wise etc It can be a tricky one finding the right breeder with healthy dogs, even if they are registered and supposingly reputable , especially if you don't know the background of them that well or at all. -
Miah's breeder knew we only wanted a Tri colour puppy. Her bitch had 2 Tri's in the litter, a male and female. When it was time to make her final decisions she asked if we were interested in the female Tri. We had never said which sex we would prefer throughout the whole process, but deep down i really was hoping for a female. I was ecstatic we were chosen for the female, it was fate ! I'm not fussed the breeder chose us for her, as i trust this breeder entirely ;)

Oooo im sorry to hear this Kirty Makes me angry too its a pity posts like this couldn't be shared on all the local buy/sell fb pages and gum tree site where many of the BYB's tend to hang out and people wanting such puppies ! RIP Pye Thank you Kirty for doing what you could for her x

Bit Concerned Re Some Eye Drops?
julesluvscavs replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
They are !! went through it with both Joey and Renae, thank you Kayla. Ive owned cats for years and they're never had any eye injuries ! *touch wood* Like the eye specialist said Miah dodged a bullet !! as he said most dogs hes seen with scratches from cats are far more serious ! Hi OSoSwift. Miah's eye is just now starting to go back to normal re the drops (the injury itself has miraculously done very well !) We have trimmed the cats claws in the past but have found when they are short, they go about trying to scratch things even more eg furniture .. like they need to sharpen them up after My husband did trim Karma's front claws but because shes very difficult to do, he didn't do them as good as they should be.. He will try again soon. During the day she goes into a cat run, so shes out of Miahs way most of the day. Its just that she was busting to get out that particular morning and was in a bad mood and Miah was trying to be playful with her. It was not the best time to pick on Karma ! The other cat Leroy (Ragdoll) hes so placid and lets Miah do anything to him, but i cant take that for granted, so when i go out to shops etc im putting him into the spare room and shutting the door. Leroys an indoor cat only. I guess we just not used to having a young playful active dog in our lives ! Ps We are fortunate we have 2 top animal eye specialists here even tho we have to drive many km's to get to them. Least now having taken all our cavs we really don't need a referral done first if something eye related comes up! -
Bit Concerned Re Some Eye Drops?
julesluvscavs replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks Kirty, i think its starting to slowly go back to normal.. its still shining like shes an alien lol I'm just soooo thankful it wasn't more serious ! Now to somehow keep her away from the cats ! Our Ragdoll tolerates a lot from her but the other one is older and grumpier and doesn't ! Ironically Miah's the one that scratched Joeys and Rena's eye ages ago, not the cats (while being playful with them) -
Bit Concerned Re Some Eye Drops?
julesluvscavs replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thank you Kirty, yes it just looked worse than it was... but thank goodness it wasn't . And yes she did explain why she had put it in initially :) but what would have happened if we had kept putting in her eye for a few days as vet advised for every x amount of hours.. would it have taken even longer to go back to normal than with just one lot (Just curious for myself)? -
Bit Concerned Re Some Eye Drops?
julesluvscavs replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thank you Rappie :) There had only been the one dose initially applied to her eye (by the vet) but we were meant to keep doing it every so many hours after , but because we saw the eye specialist later that day, he said not to put any more in as it was just a surface scratch (he said she dodged a bullet being that it was a cat scratch!) and changed her over to ocuflox drops (which Joey had been on also for his) and just to continue the Previcox tablets once a day until finished. I'll just try to chill out now since you all (and eye specialist) are saying it should go back to normal soon.. He did say could take up to a week, and its not a week to next Tues. I think i just felt bit anxious over the whole thing. If its still not going back to normal by mid next week, i'll ring specialist again and check. The whole thing did look worse than what is was and she was even crying which she never does ! I'll feel much better when her pupil goes back to its normal size :) Thanks everyone x -
Bit Concerned Re Some Eye Drops?
julesluvscavs replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks Kirty, thats reassuring to know. Least she didnt lose her eye. I just want to see her eye normal again.. Its a worry when they get injured especially when they are so young still, I was so worried it would affect her confidence, which it did on her actual day but shes back to normal with that side of things Shes got her 1st birthday party coming up on the 30th so hopefully they all cleared up by then ! x
