  1. Just thought id pop in and find out how is it all going for your puppy? were you able to get in touch with the vets and check with them about your concerns? hope so :)
  2. We have a wide mixture of different type dogs around, seems to be mostly the X's and kelpies that are always wandering around without their owners. However a Pommerian was found yesterday. The Cavaliers ive come across (and theres a few) have mostly been from BYB's (if ive been talking to the owners and found out) I've come across quite a few Cavalier X's People around here seem to like owning Amstaff /Mastiff X's , the bigger the better ! Being semi rural here quite a few people own kelpies.
  3. I don't have any advice to give you sorry, but sending speedy healing thoughts Arnold's way, and hope that the vets get to the bottom of it quickly! Have they done any blood work yet?
  4. ps .. if your vet is closed today, they will have an AH number to be contacted on.. i would think they would have it on their answering service. Most do.
  5. Yeah Pers is right, if you are concerned about it all or worried about side effects (Rimadyl can do that also with some dogs) then best phone your vet that did the op for advice. Thats what they are there for. Try not get too anxious as she will be picking that up and it will be unsettling for her. x
  6. Ive never owned a Cavalier with any extreme behavioural issues. Our older girl Renae does have some anxiety issues now as a result of being deaf, age related health problems and losing her son recently, but they not excessive anxiety issues. If all fails, i suggest you get a referral to a neurosurgeon to outrule any nasties going on that may be causing it All the best. Feel sorry for you and your Cav.
  7. Ive always owned a male and female at the same time (desexed) I now have 2 girls in the house. They generally get along really well but Renae is getting on in age and has some health issues, so she does get very possessive with her food now. So i never feed them in the same room. Apart from that no issues.. They both have very dominant strong personalities tho and i do see Miah challenging Renae from time to time, but Renae knows how to gently put back Miah in her place :)
  8. yeah there are but what if your dog gets out and while out it snags itself on something and it releases the collar .. the dog wont have the id attached to it after, Seen it happen with our cat in her cat run many times with hers.
  9. It's never happened after ive had any of my female dogs desexed.. Hope all goes smoothly with your girl's op. When i had Miah done, it was a real non event.. wouldn't have guessed she had just had it done after. Main thing is try your best to keep her calm as much as possible after, not jumping around. This was my main problem with Miah.. she's has super energy as well ;-) ps Miah was just over 6 months old when she was done.
  10. I know this is totally different but years ago i found a beautiful horse. He had wandered into my property so to keep him safe I put in him my horse's yard. I rang the police not long after and couple other organisations including local vets to ask what to do about the situation. I was informed by the police as long as i did everything possible to try locate the owner of it eg checking with vets, putting up notices etc then legally the horse would be mine after I think it was 3 months? (this was many years ago) The horse was in fairly good condition when i found it altho it was very hungry. Anyway the paddock was near lots of other horse/stock yards at the time, so I went around and asked everyone if they knew who the horse belonged too. No one had ever seen this horse before! I fed and exercised him for close to 3 months (I didn't ride him of course) just lunged him .. close to the 3 months being up (i was thinking hes mine by that stage) a cowboy looking man approached me and said it was his horse. (the property was adjacent to a main busy road). Showed me proof that the horse was his (plus the horse recognized him) Seemed to have a legit reason about his missing horse. Said he really appreciated me looking after him so well and would come back and reimburse me for all the feed etc . Well it was emotional for me because i had gotten very close to this horse and was thinking after 3 months hes mine! Of course the horse wasn't microchipped like dogs should be (i don't even think it had any branding on it) Even if it had gone over the 3 months i would have given him back. The man looked genuine and nice enough.. It wasnt like the horse was in a neglected way when i found him. He never did send me any money tho Sorry to off topic a bit but this story sort of reminds me of that particular time.
  11. Brilliant photo RV !!! This will be probably my last update in here as Miah will be 1 on the 27th November, so she won't really be puppy anymore. Where has that time gone too?? It doesnt seem that long ago she came to us (she was 10 weeks) Shes been a pure delight to own and love.. so attentive, eager, loving, just perfect in my eyes :) She just finished her last lesson today with her basic training course, and she passed with flying colours. I've never had such a super responsive easy to train dog in my life ! The only things we do have to work on is slowing her hyperness down a tad, but i guess that will hopefully come with maturity ;-)) We are going to do the next course mid Nov which will include some agility also, so looking fwd to doing that. I cant speak highly enough of the training methods used at this school, The Trainer has suggested her doing Rally O down the track, so we will see what pans out as im not really in such a healthy and fit state to do much training/trials like i used to be able to do.*sigh* I sure could have done with her years ago when i was competing lol
  12. I agree ! Around here we have so many dogs getting out argghhhh most of them aren't microchipped or even have any form of ID on them BUT due to local fb groups and living in a country most people know someone, and their pets, so usually they end up back with the owner before the council is contacted . I must say our dog control officer is really good and knows most of the roaming dogs anyway, so he does usually take them just back.. We found a dog once and couldn't contact its owners (as they were holidaying interstate) so noone one was answering the numbers. Turns out the owners were from Adelaide and their Mum was looking after it up our way (she was out when it got out) we did track her down with the help of our council and the one in the area where the dog was normally kept and eventually the Mother came to our place and picked him up. She felt really bad. We suggested to her if her family go away again and she has to ever look after it again to have her number down on some ID on the dog or work something out.. that someone who should find the dog can contact an alternative number!
  13. Sorry to hear that about your OH's brother, Cassie Seems like its been a crap year for so many people this year .. x LP, thats lovely dolers have been kind enough to offer you money and care packages. Some very kind hearted people in here ;)
  14. I saw it in my fb newsfeed this morning, its lovely
  15. It does get hard, but somehow you manage it, even if you have to make sacrifices, which we often do. I don't work anymore because of medical reasons as well, and no one would hire me these days anyway I don't think. My husband does not get a really good wage at his job but we do try to put a small amount away each week when he gets paid towards vet bills. Which does come in handy when you need it ! I also get a little bit coming in with as im on a part disability pension, and thats only because my husband's wage is under the cut off point. It does help a bit, but then i have specialist appts etc to fork out quite often too. We do also have a credit card for emergencies. My husband has been lucky this year that he has had use of a company car, but its up for sale atm, so he will have to go back to using his own car/fuel etc when it gets sold. The fact that we saved a bit there made up for his wages not being so great . We hardly go out, we don't drink or smoke.. we have a manageable mortgage as our house is just very small 2 bedroom one (nothing flashy) We live a very simple lifestyle but having our pets means everything to us in so many ways , and we just make it work. This year has cost us a small fortune with vet bills for Joey and Renae.. We are lucky the vets have let us work something out with us, if the bills have been really high.
  16. One of our cavs had a very itchy episode after giving him a flea treatment (Comfortis sp?) . First i thought it was just from the fleas but he didn't let up, so i called the vet eventually and they said to bring him to be checked over, as some dogs can have rare reactions like that to flea treatments.. He came good but they said perhaps best to not use it again just in case..
  17. Its always a worry isn't it. Been there, done that. Great news for you and your Pug ! x
